County of Los Angeles Public Library – Hacienda Heights Library

+1 for the free unlimited DVD rentals.
I came and rented a bunch of DVDs and waited patiently in line to check them out. When it was my turn, i handed the girl my drivers license and a bill with my name on it (i didn’t have a library card but i wanted to apply for one and the rule was to have your drivers license and a bill with your name on it) but the girl said i can’t check out the DVDs because the address on the drivers license doesn’t match the address on the bill. I told her i had just moved and didn’t have time to change my address but she wouldn’t have it. She was able to hold the DVDs for 24 hours though.
Had to get my parents to check them out for me and they did but heres the kicker, the address on their drivers license and bill doesn’t match either but they were able to check out the DVDs no questions asked. I called and the lady rudely (like its my fault because i make all the rules i’am the rulemaker dammit) said its county policy. Thought you said its county policy?! Shouldn’t you enforce the rule for everybody not just by «natural selection»? Why is it even more difficult to apply for a free library card than a credit card anyways? At least change the policy to over 18. I’m applying for a free library card not to get into the FBI.

There is never anywhere to sit here. They should seriously invest in more desks and chairs!

1. Parking lot is small
2. Does not have outlets at every table
3. Small library where the Adult section and Children section are not far apart and whining children can be heard
3. Feels like an older library
Summary:
Smaller and older library. Good place to get some work done if you are in the area and there are not many people here. Would not come out of my way to go here though.

Took my grand kids for storytelling today, should’ve known with the parking lot full and needed to park almost 1.5 blocks something was up. To our dismay (more people than ourselves) were being turned away because they were not ready for such a big turn out and it was full to the compacity.
With school out and parents along with grandparents who are trying to keep their kids focus on a few good things to do while out of school like reading or events at our local library.
The library should’ve taken reservations this way in a situation happens like today we would be allowed to participate in something different, or at least would’ve been told «Sorry we’re booked but we’re having another one next week if you would like to sign up now, this would guarantee you a spot for the next storytelling.»
My two grand kids were looking forward to this because they were told about it the day before… it’s so hard to get kids to enjoy reading especially being read to and listening to the story… I gave them two stars because of them turning us away and not suggesting doing reservations for the next storytelling… when we were there at least 6 – 7 families total of 14 kids were not allowed to be admitted…

They have everything I want n need and if they dont, all u havta do is order it n itll b there in a week!

This library is odd. It’s very small and parking is craziness. I came around 3−4pm on a week day, let me just say that I regretted that. First, the front of the library is filled with middle school kids, just loitering. The location and library itself is very small so turning into the parking lot I had to be very extra careful not to hit a kid or be hit by a car since it is a very small parking lot.
When I entered I thought I was walking into a daycare center. There were kids everywhere and it was extremely loud.
I asked for help locating a book and the staff was extremely helpful. However, I was disappointed there was a limited selection of the topic I was interested in checking out. I do like the long hours, they are open late and are also opened on weekends. I personally don’t like this library but if I am in need of a book and they have it, I will return just for that.

Uggghhh… I came to this library because I needed a place to study away from all the distractions at home. Luckily this library is A). Very close to my home and B). open on the weekends I thought «Great! Now I can get some studying done» Jesus christ it was noisy. Are libraries not suppose to be quiet? Between the kids running around and the idiot parents talking loudly on their phones, worst library I’ve been to so far. The staff consisted of mainly young people and did nothing to bring the noise level down. The only reason I did not give them one star is because the staff are pretty nice, but the noise level is annoying. I think studying at a Starbucks might be better.

A library that’s open on a Sunday? Yes, please. Actually, they are open everyday so that’s even better! Due to budget constraints, some other Los Angeles county libraries do not have this luxury.
The staff are really helpful however they could be more stern. This library was quiet up until the children got out of school and startes using it as a hangout.
I’m all for encouraging children to read and learn but common, do they have to be so loud? It’s still a library, you know.

I’m sad that I have to give this library such a low rating. Because of all my find memories of story time here when I was little, it’s sad to see the staff not care about the library.
It’s a LIBRARY, and the staff had no intentions of controlling the after school kids. But I can’t put all the blame on the kids. Even the staff were talking very loudly BEFORE the kids got there.
Don’t come here if you plan on studying/​reading.

Loud! Loud! Loud! A library is supposed to be a place to read or study. You can barely do any of that here. There are kids running around, people are having loud conversations and the staff does nothing to make the place quieter. I tried to mention it to a staff member one time and she said that is how it gets when the kids are out of school or there are children in the library. I would rather work at Starbucks. The staff really should be working on keeping this place quieter so people who want to work or study can get that done.

Ok fine. Deleted my 1^st comment. I was here 3 months ago. Giving them 1 star because I hate the place for being very very loud. In fairness today when I went back, the place was so quiet and u really can concentrate on reading– well, except for some people who really cannot control their talking; so far, this library improved! So keep it up! Will be coming back often now. star updating… From 1 to 3

Good grief, this is one of the worst libraries I’ve ever visited!
Why is it so bad? Well, first of all, it’s small and has a very basement-​like feel to it. The employees, which consists of 3 to 4 people, don’t look like they’re very happy being there either. It’s very depressing just being there and study space is vastly limited. Do I even need to go into how nasty the bathrooms are? It’s filthy! It smells of old urine that has dried over years and years of neglect.
Those who grew up in the area may have a sentimental attachment to this library but for newcomers, this place is absolutely disgusting. The city of Hacienda Heights needs to tear this library down and build a larger newer facility someplace else.

I use to hang out here back in grade school waiting to be picked up after school. Too bad I lost by old library card, those vintage looking green ones, now I have the boring white ones but whatever lets me check out stuff is fine.
The great thing about the LA County Library system is you can put holds on material from all the other libraries with no fees!!! I use to go to the Orange County libraries but they charge you when they have to shuttle material between their library system.
The LA libraries actually get new material pretty regularly but obviously the list for holds will be longer so I’d recommend checking their catalog regularly.
Another awesome thing about them, you can download music for free! Limit 3 songs per week. I got Adele’s new Skyfall song from there

One of the larger libraries in the area. Very busy during weekdays when the K-​8 school gets out. Staff is helpful and nice. Love being able to request books from other libraries in the system that are not at this location. Love that it is open 7 days a week. Parking lot is tiny. Activities for children there during the week and in the summer.

It’s coo, free wifi, free computer use, what more can you ask for

Before noon a dream, after noon a nightmare full of local middle school kids, who are loud obnoxious disrespectful to library staff, the library should stick the parents with a daycare bill, bcus the parents don’t want to leave the kids at home getting pregnant, like all the other kids. might get in the way of their education, or more retards to populate the library and take up space and be loud also.

this is the worst library EVER.
NEVER go between the times 2 — 6 on weekdays because all the little junior high kids from up the street think this library is a great place to hang out, gossip, yell, play, and wait for their irresponsible parents, who think this place is an afterschool program.
they just won’t shut the hell up! ever. i want to kill myself when i am studying at this library on weekdays. i feel so bad for the people who work here because they have absolutely no control over the environment.

You are old school if you still have the black card with the word «library» in colorful letters across the card! I think the color they issue now is green. Mine is a little faded, but hey, I’ve had this card for 10+ years!
Anyway, the library is conveniently located next to Mesa Robles Elementary/​Middle School, which turns the library into a after-​school care from 2−5pm! Kids, lots of them, in every other isle, doing who knows what!
Although this local library is pretty small compared to the other ones I’ve been to, but you can now conveniently search the internal database online, and transfer the book to your local library! I have been doing so for a year now, and it’s great!
This library also has about 7 – 8 public computers available to all with or without reservation.
i love my local library! It is also a great place to put in those volunteer hours they require in HS!!!
