I was having lunch with my Filipino family and we decided to stop by this place to eat. Here are our complaints Auntie Fel– No good! Worth $ 5 Auntie Tess– Food is not good. Fruit was old. Jeff–«eeeeehhhhhhhz» The Z is silent. Jesika– How do you make fruit taste gross! Momma Jean– Sushi is not fresh. Half a star. So there you go. We didn’t like it. I love buffet restaurants, but unfortunately I’m not coming back.

Pricey, seafood dry and not fresh ! Toilet is very dirty with rusty faucet. They had better seafood quality in 2009. Soup tasteless, no ice cream. Save your money for better buffet quality rather than waste $ 20 to the toilet. Waste time and money to go here.

My dad suggested coming here since he saw an ad in the Chinese newspaper, haha. Anyways, I think this is just like any typical Asian buffet. The food overall was all right — but I liked the sushi more. Their dim sum selections were okay. The hot and sour soup wasn’t perfect, but it was the best that I’ve had in Asian buffets. Maybe that counts for something. :)

Not the best buffet that I have been to, but its not the worst. In order to get fresh food, the food has to be steadily moving. So please go on a busy day so that they keep replenishing fresh stuff. The service is not that great but at least we were able to communicate which says a lot about the area. All in all if you are about quantity you can come here, if you are about quality then you may have to stray away. I came here before the remodel so I will update once I visit again.

What a freakin’ let down. This place USE to be good, but then it got hella expensive and the food is just not great. Even though my family told me not to go, my brother&I decided to go anyways for dinner. It was I think, $ 15 per person. The food was cold and some of it tasted old. I was so sad. Not coming here anymore.

When it comes to a buffet, it’s hard for me to dish out any complaints because I love all you can eats. West Coast however, struggles immensely when it comes to creating a memorable buffet experience. The best thing West Coast has going for it is the variety of food… the buffet area itself actually is VERY large…(CAPSLOCK!!! You know that means business!!) But believe me when I say, NOTHING is FRESH… this is coming from a guy who wouldn’t flinch at the thought of eating at a C-Rated restaurant! But yeah, to get back on point… the sushi felt like it was saved over from a couple days ago… I would see black avocados, that’s right BLACK… in some of the rolls. Every meat that I sampled was DRY… I don’t think spare ribs should taste like jerky… no matter how good of an attempt the cook made to «season» it When the Lobster is available it’s wayyyyy over basked in mayo… gross… P. S. I love mayo but even this was too much for me. Another thing worth noting is how many seats there are in this place. Sometimes when it’s full it really feels like you’re eating in a mess hall… think about the Vegas Buffet with with cramped seating and food from a week ago and you would’ve summed up West Coast pretty well.

This place sucks! Never again will I doubt my fellow Unilocalers! This place sucks, it’s not even worth a try. Also if they Unilocal reviews don’t convince you… maybe the LA County Department of Public Health rating of «B» will convince you not to eat here. I have to admit when you first walk in, the food looks appealing. But the food looked alot better than it tasted. Most the food was bland. None of the sushi or sashimi was fresh. I didn’t even see any lobster. The service was decent but this place definitely isn’t worth the $ 15.99 for a dinner buffet.

Expensive and not worth it. The good stuff like crab and lobster only comes out of the kitchen once per night. By then, there is a huge line and there is not telling if you will get a piece.

The selection is actually quite extensive and impressive… almost overwhelming. Even if you don’t like seafood, there are plenty of cooked non-seafood options for you. So I give them three stars for variety. I love me some seafood, and have hit up the seafood buffets at the Bellagio and Rio in Vegas… so my expectations may have been too high. I think what dropped it down to two stars was when I eagerly slurped up a raw oyster and it tasted old, not fresh. I almost spit it out, but it was already headed down my throat before I realized I didn’t like it. I made my cousin and hubby both try it to confirm my suspicions, and they agreed. Oysters are a good measure of the freshness of the seafood at a buffet. And these failed miserably. I made the mistake of starting at the cooked end, instead of doing what a professional buffet eater should’ve done, which is to walk the whole line and come up with an eating strategy before filling my plate. Lesson learned. Service was not good, but the staff may have been overwhelmed by the fact that we were part of a very large group that had just come from a funeral. But my husband asked if they had regular white rice and the girl shrugged and said, «I don’t know.» And that was it. Really?

We’re doing New Year’s differently this year and instead of having one big family bash, we’re meeting up with the various cousins here and there. Okay by me! A weekend of foodie adventures! We met up with my Cousin Owen & his family at 3:15 for a late lunch, but decided to wait until 4pm and go for the fuller dinner menu. AYCE Sashimi! Oh yeah, I’m in! I was a bit overwhelmed. Too much food! Too much to choose from! And, they kept bringing out even more dishes! I decided not to waste any stomach space and stick to the seafood. Sashimi, of course. Salmon & ahi.(Okay quality) Large baked oysters(2 for me. My petite Cousin Amy put away 5 of those!) Periwinkle(first time trying that. Loved them!) Scallops Chuka seaweed(always a favorite of mine) Clams Sea cucumber with shiitake mushrooms(very good) Coconut shrimp Some mystery stuff that I thought was jellyfish tentacles? 1 crab leg(kinda dried out) Tripe(I know, not seafood. But I LOVE cow tummy lining!) Even in little portions, I got filled up fast! Everyone else went to town at all the other stations. My husband was happy. The food here was better than most of the other buffets he’s dragged me into. I’m pretty sure he managed to hit all the stations. 3 plates, plus dessert. He’s in a food coma and snoring as I type this. My cousins tried all the different sushi rolls. The selection was better than most Asian buffets. They even had rainbow & cone rolls. I was impressed with my 13-year-old nephew; he ate even more sashimi than I did! Something like that brings tears of pride to my eyes! Anywho, our experience was better than I was expecting. I read some of the reviews during the drive over. With the limited selection that I had, it was satisfying!

It’s very rare that I give 1STAR… and after seeing how poorly others are rating this place I don’t feel bad anymore. This is one of the place that USEDTOBEGOOD… but for whatever reason they have gone DOWNHILL. It’s sad… but also common that some establishments in a recession will COSTREDUCE their product thinking that this is how they can remain profitable. I’m not sure if this strategy is working for them… but it does mean I won’t return again. Service is poor, food is of low quality, desserts are disgusting, and while I didn’t have high expectations to begin with it failed to meet them in every way. Maybe time to SHUT the doors or sell to someone that can save this place. AVOIDAVOIDAVOID

As far as buffets go, i was quite surprised by West Coast. I was expecting the food to be of Hometown Buffet quality, but I felt it was almost comparable to a Las Vegas buffet. Because it was at a fraction of the price, i decided to rate this place four stars. West Coast buffet is separated into two main sections. One section for cold food and the other for hot food. The cold food section consists of sushi, raw seafood, and salad, while the hot food section consists of Chinese soup, dim sum, stir fry, and more. I decided to take a stop at each section. From the cold section, i tried the salmon sashimi, albacore sushi, unagi sushi, and some roles. For a buffet, they did a great job. I would almost compare it to Sushi Boy quality(ie fast food sushi). Past buffet sushis I’ve been to have been complete embarrassments. After chowing down my first plate, I headed toward the hot food section. I tried some stir fry noodles, shrimp, mushrooms, veggies, beef, and dumplings. Again, the quality seemed quite acceptable. I would say comparable to Panda Express. If you’re hungry and looking for a value feast, this place gets a thumbs up!

This place is absolutely FOBULOUS. Yes, I just used that term, in both an endearing, and a, «Seriously, wtf» way. All I can really use as a preface here is, «My fobness brings all the aunties to the yard, and they’re like, ‘ni hao ma?’» On with the review: Location: 2 out of 5 You know why a 2 out of 5? Cause they’re located in the same plaza as a Ranch 99 Market. In the world of California asian subdivisions and suburbs, there is one rule of thumb that you must remember: Asian drivers are by nature, terrible drivers. And I can say this half jokingly half seriously because by virtue of my Asian descent, even though I don’t associate heavily with other Asians, bad driving is in my DNA, man. No matter how I try to play it, I’ve had mishaps(no matter how small or innocuous) in every vehicle I’ve operated. I’ve dropped every single motorcycle I’ve owned, I’ve lightly hit curbs, I’ve lightly jumped curbs, etc. etc. etc. Now, think of these skills magnified 10x by truly truly TERRIBLE asian drivers and in a confined plaza that has a Ranch 99 market, which is a magnet for asians, and you get driving Armageddon. Seriously though — try to avoid the Ranch 99 Market side of the plaza if you can. Service: 3 out of 5 Pretty good service, actually. Not overbearing, but not slow either. Can’t say anything truly negative, or positive, about the service I got. Selection of food: 5 out of 5 Once in awhile, you have to venture to the exciting, the unknown, and the truly foreign. From a cultural culinary field trip perspective, this place hits the mark. Yes yes, the sushi and sashimi are like any other sushi and sashimi place out there(ok selection, average size, nothing to really say, ‘Holy cow that’s good’), but the hot items got my attention. WHERE have I seen sea cucumbers before? In authentic a la carte asian restaurants, and in Taiwan. NEVER at a buffet. How bout sea snails? Same thing… NEVER at a buffet. How bout the warm«frog egg» sweetened soup(I think it’s actually some type of seed that resembles the frog egg). That’s right… never seen it on a buffet. Combine this with a few Americanized dishes and a Mongolian bbq selection, and you really get a 5 star selection. Price: 4 out of 5 Pretty cheap(less than 18, I think). For what you get, worth every penny. Overall: 4 out of 5 Truly one of the more entertaining dining experiences I’ve had. Don’t go in expecting a 5 star red carpet Zagat rated place… go in expecting to see some pretty whacked out food. Suffice it to say that there will probably be something for everyone at this place. Worth a try.

After reading a few reviews on Unilocal,I kind of grew wiry of going to a buffet, since a) it’s been a little over a year since I went to a buffet, thanks to dorm food, and b) I recently got over the stomach flu a few weeks ago, and I’m not looking for another crash-diet plan. With that in mind, I decided to stay away from anything that looked raw and just stick with cooked food. Nothing too great about this place; a typical Chinese buffet with knock-off sushi and entrees that are an upgrade from Panda. I did see the seafood, but I would assume that there would be a whole row dedicated to seafood, if the word«seafood» is in its name. The only thing that I liked was the crispy mayonnaise shrimp. A lot of my cousins got the meat; the meat was about medium-rare when the cooks served it, and it was REALLY tough, even cutting it with a knife wasn’t doing so. Service was decent; I never got a refill on my soda drink, they took plates without asking if they could, unless we physically stopped them from doing so, and they seemed kind of rude/bitchy when my whole family wanted to take a picture. Also, this is a Saturday night, and I would assume it would be a little busier than the weekend, but the place looked like of dead. A few parties here and there, but enough to fill up two aisles at the 99 Ranch Market. Was this journey to a «seafood» buffet worth it? I’ll have better luck going to Santa Monica and fishing my own seafood, thank you very much.

Ugh never again… Came here for my grandma’s birthday, my aunt decided to come here, I warned her of the Unilocal ratings. Came in on a Saturday at 12pm & the place was empty! Bad sign already. Took a look at the food & I thought the food looked pretty good, lots of sushi, raw oysters, crab legs, crab, «mongolian bbq», lots of dessert, and more. The food didn’t taste as good as it looked =/ Probably the only thing I enjoyed were the snow crab legs, which was just steamed and left for cold & the soft served ice cream. The fried crab was soggy, the sushi was no fresh of course, and everything didn’t have much flavor. I give the food 1 star for the 2 items I thought were acceptable. And another star for the service cause they were pretty nice and attentive.

I didn’t have very high expectations going to West Coast Seafood Buffet. I think that is what made it a much more enjoyable experience for me than for some of the other reviewers. In the current economical situation, I was a bit surprised that they were still in business. Overall, the quality of food is two stars, but the fact that they had a good variety and all items well stocked deserved an extra one, especially for a Monday night. I’ve discovered that«seafood» and«buffet» are not always the best combination. But consider the fact that when I go to Panda Express, it cost me like $ 10, paying an extra 10 for AYCE doesn’t seem too bad. The problem is that for mediocre quality food, I usually cannot each too much. The sushi selection was better than I thought. Most sushi buffets pull the Wendy’s Big Bun trick — tiny fish, giant wad of rice. None of the food got me sick either, but I did stay away from the raw oysters. But I can understand the appeal of this place for some people. It can be a treat to splurge here for people on a tight budget. I try and remind myself that I have been blessed to have the means and ways to be a food snob and develop a complex palate. I noticed a lot of large families here and if you have a family of 6, that comes out to $ 120. A lot of money to spend, so they need to get the most bang for their buck. Would I come here again? Probably not on my own, but if someone I know was having an event or such, I wouldn’t mind.

So they have raw oysters here. And it also gave me food poisoning. Story: I remember I was in High School during the time(not that long ago pshht) and I came here with my family. After eating like… 2? 3? raw oysters? I felt fine. But the next day?.. WTF! LoL O my geeehhdd it was a nightmare. I started feeling queasy in first period. Then, I rushed to the restroom and started puking. I went to the nurses office to seek help, but they said they can’t help me without even looking at me(B*words). Here I was running around school for the nearest trash cans. and I didnt make it in time to the restroom… twice. So I left my masterpieces around school. I(@ Eagle Rock high) finally called my brother(@ cal poly pomona) to call my mom because she wasn’t picking up. GUESSWHAT?! He had food poisoning too! And it wasn’t just coming out of his mouth, but his butt too lol. so I went home a little early. puked one more time on my way to my house… and laid in bed crying about how miserable I felt. On top of that, my doctor prescribed me over the phone, and my dad came home with these capsules I was supposed to stick up my butt. since I wasn’t able to consume anything. I passed. I rather die! so why 3 stars? LMAO I don’t know. because they have a lot of food here I guess and it’s not that bad as I recalled besides the whole oyster incident. I did come here again after. They have sushi, but the rice is not good sushi rice. they have steak sometimes that actually taste like steak when the right chef cooks it. So it’s not all that bad, but not all that great. I dismissed the oyster incident. even though I could’ve died… but there was a warning oyster sign saying it may cause death. so I chose my path! lol eat it if you dare!

Kind of caught between a rock and a hard place, trying to decide between West Coast and Todai in the world of Asian buffets. The decision ultimately came down to economics, with West Coast winning due to a $ 10 advantage. Well, against a very very low bar, West Coast surpassed my expectation, barely. To their defense, it’s pretty hard to keep the food fresh when there’s no customers, which was the case for an early dinner one weekday. I didn’t have any issue w/the sashimi, which comprised only of ahi and salmon, but were fresh from my point of view. The sushi looked good also but I tried only 1 or 2. The hot food selection was impressive in breadth but, in almost all cases, disappointing in taste. Again, some of this may be attributable to the food not being fresh. Would I go back? Maybe, if I was between another rock and hard place.

I think this is the ONLY place that had chicken nuggets that were exact replicas(in shape, taste) of McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets, I kid you not. I don’t really know if they still exist since it’s been a while from my last visit. What’s really nice about this place, HUGE selection, I think even bigger than that of Asian Buffet(Formerly China Buffet). Plus they have a Ramen station, something you don’t really see in an Asian Buffet restaurant. «C» is for«Chinese» food, says the grade placecard. I don’t know if their grade has been bumped up to a B, so I am just going to have to read more review about them or visit it for myself.
