Greater Alliance Credit Union

This bank has great service. Their staff is friendly and helpful. The wait time is never too long. They offer great savings programs. Overall, this bank is great!

I have been a member of Greater Alliance for many years. Originally a credit union for teachers, it has always been there to help it’s members. I am currently refinancing a home equity loan. Thanks to the team at Greater Alliance, and in particular, Andre Porter, the process is streamed lined and efficient. Almost daily I receive emailed reports about the progress is my loan request. I recommend this place to all.

Some of the tellers in at Paramus bank have such a bad attitude. but here are a few that are very nice, the way tellers should treat people. Forget having them deposit to other credit unions. they do not know what they are doing. They have told me a few times they cannot deposit a check and then I would go all the way to my other credit union and told they should have deposited the check. They need better management there.

This is the most awful bank i’ve ever banked at. I’m stuck because it’s my company’s credit union. If you want to wait long amounts of time without them ever even acknowledging you., this is your place. Service with an attitude is free!

Member since 2008. Happy so far. Even got a call that my credit score had improved so I should come in and refinance 2 loans. Only problem is if you swipe your card for purchases as debit, the bank charges you for a foreign atm fee. First month was a big fee, but they took it off and now I choose credit when swiping and no fees. Hackensack branch clientel leaves much to be desired. Not the bank’s fault though.

I don’t belong to this particular credit union, but I come here for the location convenience and Saturday hours to do basic banking. So, my only encounter are the bank tellers and they are awful, just plain lifeless droids behind the counter. I’d rather talk to machines at this point, it would probably be more welcoming to a first-​time stranger than humans who see frequent customers. Maybe it’s the unsmiling, «I don’t want to work on Saturday» façade on her, or it could be the complete absence of any eye contact whatsoever. Bullseye.

I wish I could give this location less than one star. I have an account with an affiliate of Greater Alliance and I needed to issue a bank check from my account for a down payment on a house. I was wrong to assume that this wouldn’t be a problem however I was willing to switch my account to Greater Alliance from my current credit union since I couldn’t get full service with my bank. First the teller told me I could only get a bank issued check under my name. Then the Manager said that wasn’t right and she would only give a check up to $ 5000. This Manager was unprofessional and started talking about my personal banking needs in front of everyone in the line. I asked to go to a private office where she adamantly refused to help me because I wasn’t a member. She also wouldn’t accommodate my request if I signed up as a member that day because she could ‘lose her license’ as an affiliate to other credit unions. So she wants to keep her affiliation with my credit union however she wants nothing to do with the customers. She did admit she had the power to approve the bank issue check however she wouldn’t because I wasn’t her customer. I am seriously shocked at how hard she tried NOT to help me along with her rude and incompetent team. I would recommend banking anywhere else but here.

Worst experience We’ve ever had with a credit union. Went here to withdraw my money to close on a house. The manager told me the amount i needed exceeded 5,000 dollars and would not make me out a check because i was technically not a customer and just an affiliate! When we asked if we could open an account we were told NO!!! The manager was totally uncooperative and acted like she would do anything to make our transaction impossible. This place is not FDIC insured, if you have money with them, get it out now. I’ve had better service at the DMV, the current manager needs to get a job that doesn’t deal with people or money. Night janitor comes to mind.

This credit union is not part of the CO-​OP partnership. I find this odd because they are a credit union. I’ve been under the assumption that all credit unions operated under the CO-​OP partnership.
What is the CO-​OP partnership? It’s basically an agreement that allows members of credit unions to use ATMs without having to incur any fees. Not so here. Might as well be a bank as I don’t see an advantage to using their ATM.
Guess I’ll stick to supermarkets…

I’ve been a member of this Credit Union for over 12 years, but tomorrow I’ll be canceling/​closing my accounts. Would have done it earlier, but I had a loan with them.
While the Paramus location is a bit more professional and have their act together somewhat, this is a review of the Hackensack branch and their general phone service for the most part.
There’s the hostile tone of voice over the phone from people who never tell you their name. Those calls usually cause members to have to spend their lunch hours going there to resolve problems in person. There’s also the belligerent attitude of most of the Hackensack folks and the sophomoric website that a high-​schooler could have built.
I’d advise you to keep your money under a mattress rather than give it to these folks. There is little or no human understanding — never mind kindness or empathy — to be found here.
The Hackensack «manager» Carl comes immediately to mind, acting like a used car salesman to negotiate fees that they’ve mistakenly charged you — by meeting you «in the middle.» Please. The fees that aren’t a mistake are excessive and add up to rob you as well.
Then there’s the guy whose job i is to stand in the lobbies and sell you on products like insurance, used cars and anything else these vultures can get a chunk of. He’s got a job to do and he’s very professional, but it’s ravenous and insulting to the working class members.
Gina in Hackensack is a professional. So are Alexandra and Mike in Paramus. Okay, there are two people in twelve years of dealing with these poorly trained folks.
Other than that, there’s a simple absence of leadership, thoughtfulness, eye contact and attention throughout this organization that I’ve pointed out to them for years and which, sadly, has never improved.
It’s too bad that a local business and employer like this would put on such an unhappy face to it’s neighbors and members.
I’m moving to one of the chain banks who are civilized have their ducks in a row customer service-​wise.
Oh well, it’s only money!
