Best ice cream I have ever had! The banana and strawberry flavors taste like real fruit and they’re not too sweet and they’re extremely creamy. The Salted caramel is delectable paired with hot fudge it’s really a knockout combination. You can’t go wrong with the classic Tahitian vanilla throw some Oreos on top and you have a slamdunk. The coffee flavor is sure to give you a jolt and spark your taste buds. Definitely come here to enjoy the best ice cream ever!

What a great little ice cream shop to find (thanks to Unilocal)! Having dinner at a nearby restaurant in Hackensack and saw Ice Cream by Mike was nearby and decided to give it a try and very happy we did.
Mike’s itself is very small establishment, but does offer sidewalk seating if want. Upon walking in, you are pleasantly greeted (by Mike himself), and you get to taste some of the flavors if you wish. Not one to shy from a challenge, I did try almost all of them (thanks again Mike!)
The flavors are all made on site by Mike himself with his own recipes, here’s some of the highlights:
— hands down favorite was the salted caramel!
— coffee (one of my all time favorite flavors) was great
— the coconut I am definitely coming back for
— strawberry was yummy, you can tell it was made fresh
In the end, I went with a scoop of the salted caramel & the coffee (go figure), and then topped it with Mike’s homemade hot fudge (whoa again here, just awesome).
I definitely suggest if you are in the area. Definitely coming back myself. Looking forward to the winter to try some of his homemade soups.

Ice cream was really fresh and delicious but there are not enough options of flavors for me to go regularly.

Small hole in the wall place on Main Street Hackensack. But damn I’m never going to Baskin Robbins again. I had a French vanilla cone which the owner said had a touch of Hennessy in it… excellent. My wife had the salted caramel, and my daughters had strawberry and chocolate which were all delicious.
There are a few tables, chairs and a bench outside for you to enjoy the weather and your cone. He had some good jazz music blasting to complete the ambience.
Mike was very helpful, explained all the flavors, is good with the kids and hooked us up with cherries.

The place is very small, with no indoor seating. Just two small tables outside.
There were only a few flavors available. I had a single scoop of french vanilla in a waffle cone and it was $ 4.50. The ice cream was nothing special, quite bland, no distinct vanilla flavor.
It was worth a try, but no reason to go back.

Creamy, Velvety, Quality, Delicious, Natural, Perfection!
These are some words that come to one’s mind when you eat Mike’s awesome gastronomic creations. To simply call it Ice Cream does not do justice to his most incredible frozen scoops of nirvana.
The perfection of Ice Cream by Mike’s lies in the quality ingredients, preserving the natural flavors and not over sweetening the ice cream. You simply can’t go wrong with any of the flavors. I personally love the Chocolate, the Peanut Butter Chunk, Coffee and Nutella. Even when I step out of my normal comfort zone and tried Date I immediately fell in love. My wife’s personal favorites are Coconut (the best we both have ever had) and Lemon. Frankly, there hasn’t be a flavor yet that has disappointed us.
The best part is that even when you do take a pint (or two) home, it keeps fresh and retains its creamy perfection for days. It truly speaks to the quality product that Mike is making.
So my advice to you dear reader is that don’t waste a minute more. Go to Ice Cream by Mike’s! You will love yourself for having done so and more importantly you will love the amazing, delicious, scoops of nirvana that you have deprived yourself of so far.

Best ice cream I have had since my trip to Italy! This place is the real deal. The place is small but the flavor of their ice cream is huge! They only have about 8 – 10 flavored but each one packs a punch. This guy Mike takes pride in his work and it really shows in the final product. I had the chocolate and strawberry flavored but plan to try Nutella and pistachio next. Can’t wait for my next trip to Mikes ice cream.

I get why this place has consistently gotten 5 stars. It’s a small spot with tables outside. Nothing fancy but a collection of simply flavors and delicious waffle cones.
The Nutella was great, but the strawberry was completely out of this world! We’re talking fresh sweet strawberry flavors.
The only downside is that it closes early (8 or 8:30pm) so it’s less of an after dinner dessert and more of a before dinner spot or rush dinner to get there before it closes like I did.

Great freshly made ice cream. Salted caramel is really good. Love that it’s a small local place. I try and make an effort to frequent places like this. Way better than the big places with flavorless ice cream.

Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had — and definitely THE best hot fudge (homemade with dark chocolate) I’ve had in my life. Mike, the owner, was incredibly friendly and helpful and my fam and I (including 2 very happy kids) will definitely be back soon to see what new flavors Mike has cooked up. I had the Coconut ice cream with hot fudge and homemade whipped cream. Dynamite!

Read about this place in the paper, and I’m glad I went. I have been here a few times, and always get the same thing– a scoop of banana ice cream and a scoop of salted caramel. The texture is creamy, yet too to rich; and just the right amount of sweetness. This time they had no banana, so I opted for something new and fresh. The owner recommended the date ice cream, and I was pleasantly pleased. I will definitely be back for more

Ice Cream by Mike is a very small location, family ran, and most importantly, has delicious ice cream!
What really wins me over here is that the ice cream here is made with all natural flavors! Even though the inside is small, you feel walking in here that there is some tender love and care when the ice cream here is created. I have had the salted caramel and pistachio ice creams which were both great!
This establishment goes more by quality and not quantity. There are not a wide variety of flavors here, but the ones Mike has at the time are fresh and worth being put out. Be on the lookout for some special flavors, I have seen a few come and go, which made me disappointed that I have not tried them!
Finally, if you are on-​the-​go and are hungry as well, there is a small food menu here. I likely will just come here for the ice cream though! Keep up the quality work!

Truly amazing !! Mike doesnt dissapoint. By far the best ice cream I had in bergen county. Quality and fresh ingredients. Highly recommended!

Came here this Sunday for the first time and I actually passed this mini shop. Kind of easy to miss if you’re looking to the left and trying to focus what’s ahead of you at the same time. He had a small selection of flavors. I ordered a salted caramel (my favorite!) & banana with walnuts as a topping. He let me try both flavors and the salted caramel is soooo good! Got $.50 off for checking in with Unilocal,so I basically got the topping for free. IMO, the syrup from the walnuts were overpowering both flavors. I really couldn’t taste anything but a hint of banana and some EXTRA syrup-​y SaaaWEETness! I wish he had like chopped up almonds. Now I know when I decide to come back, I won’t order my ice cream with walnuts even though i loveeee my ice cream with nuts.

Hands down, the best ice cream I’ve ever had.
The owner takes pride in what he does and it shows.
My daughter loves this ice cream and he always makes her experience special.
My favorite is the pistachio.

What a find. It’s a non-​descript shop on main street in Hackensack. It smells awesome in here, a cross between the smells of an ice cream shop with some residual fried hot dog scent.
The ice cream is super rich, creamier than most ice cream. The coconut ice cream is super rich and velvety; the chocolate is not as rich as other flavors; the fig was lovely, almost like the flavors of gelato with a way creamier texture.
Totally worth checking out, ditch your dairy queen.

A very small place in Hackensack with awesome ice cream! We tried the salted Carmel and didn’t disappoint. We will be back!

First time here, heard about it from a friend who came with me. Ordered 2 double sundaes. Mike was friendly and had a great personality. After we completed our order we sat outside having our ice cream and he surprised us both with two freshly made banana ice cream cups for free! I definitely come back!

I heard this place got reviewed in The Record newspaper so i figured i would give it a shot. Let me tell you, Mike does not disappoint.
He has about 10 different flavors at any given time, he will let you sample anything before you get it and will give you suggestions on what goes good together. I had the Nutella and strawberry ice cream. I had also tried the banana and coconut.
They were all fantastic. Every. Single. One.
This ice cream is no joke. It has a great all natural flavor, made with REAL all natural ingredients and you can absolutely taste the difference. Mike is a really great guy, you can immediately tell he really cares about his business and the customers that come in. I highly reccommend this place to anyone.

I love ice cream (especially flavors that contain chocolate); okay, I said it. Now that that’s out of the way…
This place is awesome! Forget about Carvel, Baskin-​Robbins, or even your favorite quart of Ben & Jerry’s or Häagen-​dazs. Head on over to try some some of Mike’s ice cream to open your eyes upon the world of Ice cream that is freshly made from the best ingredients.
What a difference! Each and every one of the flavors is made on location by none other than… You guessed it, Mike! Mike has no problem with his customers tasting as many different flavors as they would like before they commit to purchase. He is definitely passionate about the ingredients in his ice cream and his quality control. For example, the strawberry ice cream is made with real strawberries from California, and although it is one of his most popular flavors he is considering taking it off the menu because the cold-​season strawberries from South America are apparently too tart, and not sweet enough to make the quality-​cut for this flavor of ice cream.
The chocolate, oh the chocolate… The chocolate used is also of the highest quality. The last time I stopped by we had a discussion about chocolate and Mike brought a bag of the raw, chocolate stock (prior to being melted and utilized in his different creations) and gave me the opportunity to taste it to gauge its quality prior to use. It was outstanding, and In my opinion it was the perfect percentage of coca; not too sweet and not too bitter.
If you take a look on the left wall when you are ordering you’ll see that the when not in use, the ice cream scoop is stored in a continuously cycling water filtration system. Apparently, using this system avoids introducing any external impurities to the flavor of his ice cream (mixed flavors, or cleaning agents). Have you ever seen that funky 20-​mixed-​flavors water bucket they store the ice crème scoop in at some ice cream parlors? You wont find that here. Excellent!
Go check this place out, it is definitely worth your time. I have nothing but positive things to say about the quality of the ice cream, and the owner of the shop. The difference in the texture and the purity of flavor is night and day when compared to a mass-​produced product. My current favorite flavors are the salted caramel, and the peanut butter chocolate =]
