The Shops at Riverside

This mall has just about everything you need. It feels luxurious and has high end shops. But, it’s not usually as packed as Garden State Plaza is and gives you a bit more peace in your shopping. It also has some great restaurants (shout out to Houston’s) on its premises. Everyone should check it out!

My family would make the trip to this mall at least monthly many years ago. If you live in NYC and want to eat at Cheesecake Factory this used to be the closest location. We also like the feel of home we would get from shopping in a Mall such as this one.
Like most reviews say, it is higher end stores. I like the Barnes and Noble location. You can always find gifts in there.
During the time we went to this mall it was undergoing renovation. It has now become very luxurious inside. The tile floors and glass roofing are great. I love the seating area. When you shop until you drop you can sit down to rest comfortably in the mall.
The reason we don’t shop here any longer involves the transportation. In Winter. We had to wait in the cold on the highway for the bus to and from NYC. I remember one day climbing over huge piles of snow to cross the highway to get the bus back to NY. I can’t tell you how many times we would be flagging the bus down as it passed us by. It became to much trouble and unsafe to be out on the highway.
Someone told us about Park and Ride and the bus going to the Mall in Wayne. We started going to Willowbrook Mall. It is much easier to access from NYC.
I often wonder if they started providing bus transportation to and from their parking lot. An over hang with protection during inclement weather would be nice at The Riverside Shops.
If you don’t live nearby, or own a car keep this in mind when you go. Maybe if enough people express an interest they will help us by providing this service. I would certainly like to return to Hackensack for a visit.

Great parking, easy off freeway. Not crowded. Good to walk and hang out with a decent mix of shops. Ground Connection coffee and muffins worth the stop alone. Louis Vuitton. Nuff said.

I really like this mall for it’s convenience in terms of certain stores that I go to. It’s a smaller mall so easy in & out when you just need to get a few specific items. Also, while people keep driving around looking for parking, I usually head back to the deck behind the building which always has ample parking (a little walking never killed anyone LOL). Mondays & Tuesdays are usually the quietest days. It’s clean and has food options as well.

It’s a luxurious mall that has a lot of high end stores such as Bloomingdale, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Tiffany & Co, Burberry, Godiva Chocolates, and etc. The mall is quiet and empty for a mall and I must say that it has been declining over the years. There are quite a number of vacant stores and the mall isn’t as renovated or well kept as it should be. There are a lot of seating arrangements throughout the mall with complimentary chargers for your phone.
Spacious Parking Lots

While folks describe this mall as fancy. Its really just a regular mall with high end stores. There is actually nothing fancy about it otherwise. Take a look at their store director and decide for yourself if you can afford to shop here. One this is correct, its never ever crowded.

This mall has the potential to be North Jersey’s answer to Short Hills Mall but it’s not. This mall is beautiful, fancy and posh but it’s always empty. A few days before Christmas I found a spot right in front of the entrance. Yup, I just said that. I can hear all the gasps from here. You are saying «how is that possible?». Well I have a number of theories why this mall is under preforming.
1). The location. Very close to Garden State Plaza which has 95% of the same stores.
2). Lots of retail space is empty. I believe I walked one hallway that had no stores, just wallpaper about how fancy the mall is and lease information on for prospective tenants. I believe I speed walked that section cause it was very scary to find an empty hallway in a New Jersey Mall. I felt like the token white girl in a horror movie. It legit was creepy.
I wish this mall had better selection because I rather come here than GSP because it’s way less packed and not full of mall rats. Sak’s is leaving, so that goes to show you how traffic is in this mall. They should look at Short Hills and go by their model. Add a Sephora, a department store to replace Sak’s although this will be tough as the rest of major department stores are five minutes North at GSP.
The Bloomingdales here is awesome! Great selection and staff. Barnes & Noble here sucks, very small with limited titles. The resteraunt selection here is great. There are so many. PF Changs, Mortons, Cheesecake Factory, Rosa Mexicano, Maggiano’s and a few more. No food court, it’s too fancy for that so don’t go looking for Panda Express or McDonalds. Au Bu Pain is as close as you will get.
This mall will be great if they add the proper retail options. It’s beautiful, never packed and in prime location.

I would of gave this plaza 5 starts, but they only good store they have going on for me is the Bloomingdale! I mean of course some restaurants are great as well, and what I LOVE LOVE LOVE about this mall is that it’s never crowded! Thats the best part!

Nice and quiet compared to the other bigger malls around. While it is more restaurant-​centric, the stores are eclectic enough to entertain the average joe. Barnes and nobles is a nice touch and will distract the kids while you wait for your table at Cheesecake Factory. Pottery barn kids is by far the biggest, well stocked, cleanest and well-​behaved one I’ve been in. Plenty of restrooms and family friendly seating areas with recharging stations. Parking can be a little tricky but heck of a lot easier than garden state.

Love love LOVE this mall! It has all of my favorite stores/​restaurants, and is very elegant and clean compared to all the other malls in the area. It may not have as many shops as the garden state mall, but is a better option if you want to get out of the hustle and bustle of the mostly dirty and extremely crowded malls of NJ.

I really like this mall. It’s one of the last ones to still have a bookstore inside and so many great restaurants.
The only problem is there are mostly high end stores and it’s missing a lot of other stores that you may expect to find here. I wish it had a few more shops.
But because of that, the mall inside usually is pretty quiet (the restaurants are what fill up first) and it’s nice to walk around in the quiet atmosphere while shopping. Parking can be difficult some days and that’s because usually everyone’s busy dining.

I enjoyed this Mall.
1) It is very fancy. Which means, very expensive.
2) I will recommend coming here to browse, and if you have to buy something, unless you are rich, do so wisely.
3) They have free phone charging stations in multiple locations. Which is awesome.

Has all the stores you need without the craziness of garden state mall.

This is one of the nicest malls I have ever been to, it is also one of the most expensive. They have some of the highest end restaurants in the area so if you want to eat good here is the place to go. They also have some of the highest end shops in the area all in one place as well. Good thing to keep in mind if you don’t really have money for that lol. The awesome part about this place though is that even though a lot of the stores are high end they aren’t snobby. They actually treat you with respect here whether you look like you come from money or not. Which is always a rare but, awesome happenstance. Check this place out for some higher end merchandise and eat at one of their restaurants you wont be disappointed.

This is another mall in Bergen County. Who knew there were so many stores so many shoppers, and so much money to spend to keep all these places open?
Anyway, this mall is on RT 4 West, easy stop coming from the city.
Bloomies is here, always a fun place to visit. And Saks. Louis Vuitton. Tiffanys. Hugo Boss. And more. Many more.
They also have some more upscale chains, think PF Changs, Rosa Mexicano, Morton’s steakhouse etc.
Parking is ok here. But its never as crowded as the Paramus mall down the road, so the parking is pretty much always easier.

If there’s one thing I enjoyed about New Jersey is the number of malls you’ll find all over the place. This one in particular was fun to browse; notice the word «browse» because while looking at some dresses at one store, I nonchalantly look at the price tag. «Oh look at that, only $ 3,800 for this dress; yeah sure, wrap it up while I pick out three more.»
The shop keeper had not even been aware that I was there (probably due to my enormous height) until I was exiting and she kindly says to me: «Hello!!» and I kindly said back «Goodbye!» She started laughing right away and I’m sure she knew why, it’s a reaction she’s probably use to when people come to the store.
I just don’t see how the average person can realistically shop here because the dresses didn’t really look like anything out of this world. You must really be in a spending mood to dish out that kind of money on a dress.
You will find all those fancy Shmancy restaurants here too like Cheesecake factory, Houston’s, Pf Changs, and some others all conveniently located within walking distance from each other.

Try to get there off peak times and you will get what you need at the right price!

Compact higher end retail mall that is a good spot if you go in knowing the stores in the mall.
It’s like a smaller short hills. It doesn’t have everything but covers most of the higher end mall spectrum. Bloomindales, Tiffanys, Hermes, Ferragamo to Jcrew and Brooks Brothers. Even has an Omega boutique.
So this is a solid spot but isn’t open on Sundays of course and sometimes if you’re looking for a couple specific stores it won’t have them all.
Should check it out when you wanna spend a lot — like it but still like Short Hills better.

Riverside is one of the nicest shopping experiences in the area. It’s a much calmer scene than nearby Garden State Plaza, and the parking lot is a bit easier to navigate.. The store selections includes high end retailers (Hermes, Omega, Coach), but there are certainly enough moderately-​priced retailers (Banana Republic, J. Crew) that the mall doesn’t have that super-​exclusive feel to it. For food, Au Bön Pain is going to have to do for the low-​priced eats. There are several moderate to high-​priced chain restaurants attached. Riverside is located on Route 4 West, maybe twenty minutes from the George Washington Bridge if you’re visiting from New York.

The Shops at Riverside is a high-​end shopping mall located in Hackensack, NJ right off of Route 4 E. While northern NJ is certainly no stranger to shopping malls, The Shops at Riverside has successfully managed to carve their own niche and separate themselves from the pack.
For starters, this isn’t your typical NJ mall. You won’t see loitering tweens wearing too-​tight tank tops with a bunch of corny acronyms sprawled across the front, there aren’t kiosks every 30 feet with pushy salespeople and most of the usual suspects don’t occupy the retail space here. Don’t get me wrong, as a twenty-​something who primarily grew up in Bergen County, I appreciate the «mall rat» culture as much as any stubbornly proud New Jerseyan. That said, an occasional change of pace is very refreshing and appreciated. While it can get a bit awkward when you’re at the mall on a weeknight and it’s practically empty, it also allows for a more relaxed experience.
The bulk of the 72 retailers which make up the shopping core at Riverside include luxury brands and specialty stores such as Burberry, Bloomingdale’s, Coach, Saks Fifth Avenue Hermes Paris and Louis Vuittone and Barney’s New York CO-​OP. There are a few more modestly priced stores as well, such as GAP, Victoria’s Secret, H&M and Barnes & Noble (which is open on Sundays).
There are also some excellent restaurants located here, and quite a variety to choose from whether you want hearty Italian (Maggiano’s), classic American (Cheesecake Factory), Mexican (Rosa Mexicano), hand-​crafted burgers (Smashburger) or even some Americanized Chinese fare (P.F. Chang’s). Most of the restaurants take reservations, so it would be best to call ahead and secure a spot as they are almost always packed.
Overall, I like shopping here on occasion and think it’s great for a high-​end alternative to exist right in the mecca of malls. The property itself is immaculately clean, with everything from the floors to the bathrooms being maintained throughout the day with a very high standard of quality in mind which provides an appropriate ambiance. Parking overall isn’t bad, but can become a pain in the late afternoon and evenings when the restaurants start to really pick up.
