Aloha General Store

I was very impressed with this store. I am glad to say that I was able to find what I was looking for especially when my friend who is a recent University of Hawaii graduate and I have to say that this is a fantastic store and I have to say that not only that they have gifts/​souvenirs, they also have shave ice and snacks that they sell just in case they are looking for something to snack on. However, I will admit that I didn’t realize that I was not supposed to take photos in the store, which I didn’t know. I would like to see a sign posted so that way i can remember not to do that. I am very glad to say that i was able to find what I was looking for as well as getting that special gift for a friend who is a college graduate and i hope that she will be able to commend her for graduating college with a masters degree in hand and cone check out this place when you are in the haleiwa area and just want to check this place out for a drink or something to remember Hawaii with before leaving back home to your respective areas. I hope to visit again soon when i get the chance to and try their snack items

Been there a few times, all for shave ice. The latest time a few weeks ago I got there right at closing, and the people were so nice and made me one anyway. Really fluffy, snow-​like ice and the syrup was not too sweet for me. Nice price, nice portion, great taste.

We got «da works» with vanilla ice cream on the bottom, 3 flavors shaved ice and snow cap. Amazing! No need to go anywhere else!

The pineapple bowl is where it’s at. Every time I visit family on the island, this is the only thing I have to get before I head back to the mainland. Shave ice here is definitely better than the tourist traps on the North Shore. Huge selection, great flavor, friendly staff.

Got a Vanilla Cherry Shave Ice Bowl. The original is actually chocolate, not vanilla, but I’m not a chocolate ice cream fan so they gladly made it with vanilla ice cream (my favorite!) for me. She said it was a big bowl that could feed both me and my friend. She was right! The bowl was practically as big as my face! There was a guy, I think the owner maybe, that kept checking on us and making sure everything was good and that we were enjoying our shave ice! Great customer service. I’ll be back for this again :)

Shave ice is very tasty and I recommend this shop over matsumotos. Usually at the bottom of a Matsumoto shave ice there is still a lot of syrup but with Aloha General I still had ice cream and some ice left to finish it off right :)
The store also has a wide variety of things that someone visiting could bring home as souvenir! The outside area also includes tables as well as a cute little board to take pictures with.

The shave ice is amazing! Waiola is my favorite but this is in the same category as Waiola! The ice is shaved fine and it just melts in your mouth. They have a lot of different flavored to choose from.
We got the chocolate cherry with azuki beans and it was so amazing. My boyfriend said it reminded him of the cherry tootsie pop. And he is s correct! The inside was chocolate ice cream and it was the most chocolatey tasting ice cream we’ve ever had. It went well with the cherry shave ice and the azuki beans have some great texture!
The shop itself is really neat and I always like to look around while the shave ice is being made. If you’re looking for some souvenirs or just some cute stuff this is the place to look at.
After spending the day at the beach we like to come here for snack and treats.

Broke the bank. Got cool unique stuff they have homemade peanut butter that is to die for. Pricy but worth it for a treat.

This was an unexpected pit-​stop to stretch our legs after driving in from Kaneohe. We loved everything about this place. They have a really neat gift shop that overflows with cool little trinkets that are well made and worthy to buy! The best part about this place was hands down the shaved ice over ice cream. It was the tastiest we’ve ever had on the entire island of Oahu. There wasn’t a line to wait and Chris, the guy making our shaved ice was absolutely hilarious and entertaining. He sang to us and it truly made our day. It was a cheerful and upbeat environment filled to the brim with Aloha. We look forward to coming back soon.

I always come here for my shave ice craving. Its very good and usually the line isnt too long, unlike Matsumoto’s. But I guess if you dont live here then its worth the wait at Matsumoto’s.
Usually the general store had a good size shave ice and good amount of ice but today it seemed very low on ice. Idk but General Store — please dont stop giving a good shave ice. Alot of ice is key! I usually get The Works: ice cream and snow cap (condensed milk) and any flavors you want… i think up to 3 – 4 flavors.

Good for Shave ice. Lite like snow. Had the lychee, pineapple and mango. Blue raspberry was also good. Located inside a tourist type retail store. Lots of parking so very convenient

The shave ice is good here! The ice is really fine and one of the best I’ve had around. The condensed milk (snow cap) is really good here too. The only thing is I didn’t really like the syrups they put on it. It didn’t tastes super good. I got guava and pineapple.
The store is cool though. They have cute things and stuff you’d get only in Hawaii. I loved the vintage signs and pictures that you can buy.

I am a shave ice snob for sure. There are only a few places that I actually enjoy eating shave ice. My friend and I had just finished two hikes and were definitely in need of something cold to refresh us. I am NOT a fan of Matsumoto’s and on 4^th of July, the line over there was over a block long! So of course I turned to Unilocal for some other viable options to get shave ice.
Aloha General Store popped up on the radar. They claimed that their shave ice was better than Matsumoto’s. We figured why not check it out to see if this claim was true. We turned around and continued on our trek to find this establishment. I followed along on the map… looking at the blue dot that was me and making sure it followed along the path to get to the Unilocal flag on the map. I love the maps on Unilocal… makes it so easy to find places because you can see where you are in relation to the business.
Aloha General Store is located in the North Shore Marketplace. It’s kind of hidden (not facing the street), so don’t lose hope trying to find it. If you’re facing the marketplace, it’s on the right side sort of in the back.
One thing to note about this place is that you can get a buy one get one free with the Entertainment Card (gave an extra star just because of that). I have the app for the Entertainment Card, so that came in really handy. Basically, you get one shave ice free, but if you want additional goodies (like ice cream), then you have to pay extra for that. My friend and I basically got the same thing (just different flavors), but still ended up paying for the ice cream. Still a good deal, though. They also throw in the snow cap (condensed milk) with the ice cream (not an additional cost). They put the shave ice at the bottom… boo! You have to eat most of the shave ice on its own before you can share it with the ice cream. Definitely worth getting the ice cream because it’s Dave’s ice cream… nuff said!
CASH ONLY! Make sure you have cash on hand to pay for your ice cold treat.
My verdict? Personally, I don’t enjoy any kind of shave ice that needs to be dug into. I expect my shave ice to be nice and fluffy. There are other shave ice places that I enjoy much more than Aloha General Store. However, if friends were in need of shave ice out on the North Shore side, I suppose this place would do… definitely beats the crowds at Matsumoto’s!

Okay… Gigantic shaved ice with homemade vanilla on be bottom and fresh pineapple. One is enough to share. We got the pineapple bowl and it was $ 6.95. Very good.

I think it’s better than Matsumoto’s. They think so too since they’ve got a sign showing why their shave ice is the best. Is it? Dunno but it’s good. And short lines. And buy two, pay for 1 ½ with the coupon in the Oahu brochure. I’d try them again.

Great tourist trap in Haliewa. the service is good, very friendly staff, they gently pack the $ 3.25 shaved ice so it’s not that much like when you go to Matsumoto’s but it’s shaved very fine, syrups are good, you can add a scoop of Dave’s ice cream for $ 2.00. The kids size is about .50 less for the shaved ice. The entertainment book has a BOGO. and the free books all around the complex has a coupon for 50% off the second one. They have a few tables with umbrellas to enjoy your shaved ice. Free parking in the complex, but it was pretty full when we got there.

Awesome prices for souvenirs & the people that work there are really nice & helpful. Go check it out!

Make sure to check them out while you’re near north shore. Friendly staff and yummy yummy yummy shaved ice with tons of flavor.
Wouldn’t expect it from a general store but we had a coupon from the local magazine we got from our rent a car company.
This place beats the long line that we saw nearby at a competitor shaved ice store. We were in and out in minutes

Our initial intention was to get smoothies here but when we got in line the smoothies didnt look all that so we opted for the shaved ice instead.
They don’t have a whole lot of different flavors like other places but what they had was good. They had li hing mui but no lemmon just lime. They had a shaker where you could add some li hing mui on the top after but it wasn’t bursting with flavor kind but it was a good booster.
The shaved ice was not bad either. I got The Works that included ice cream and a snow cap but no azuki beans. (idk why its called the works without the beans) The ice cream scoop is big. You have at least four bites to eat when you get to the bottom. Not like the other places where its so skoshi, its melted by the time you reach the bottom. Its right up there or better than Island Snow or Matsumoto’s as far as fine consistency. They also chill their syrup so not to melt the shaved ice too much when applying it.
I’m wondering if that was the owner of the store that rung us up but he saw we were local and gave us a kama’aina rate! Come on now! This is the only place that I’ve ever had shaved ice that did that. You won’t find a find that at Matsumoto’s, Island Snow, Shimizus, or Waiola unless they been doing it and we just never knew?
I know its a touristy spot with all its trinkets and stuff but what place in Haleiwa isnt? Give it a try and decide for yourself and flash your HDL and get your discount. You wont have to deal with ridiculously long lines either.
