Thank you guys so much! After a bad experience for at a dealership that wanted us to pay for a job that wasn’t even needed these guys were amazing! They saved me about $ 3500 by letting me know that the transmission job the dealership told us we needed was actually something else that cost us less than $ 200. Thanks Alex you are the best!

I took my vehicle here because of the good reviews on Unilocal about their honesty. Unfortunately my experience was a bit different that that of the other reviewers. However, it is important to understand that there is some possibility that they were truly trying to do the best for my vehicle. I just feel that they were trying to add additional work to my car that did not need to be done.
TNS quoted me $ 2800 to repair my Engine Control Module (ECM) and rebuild my transmission due to some wear on the planetary gear.
After taking the vehicle to another repair shop (Lutter’s Elmbrook Automotive: Highly Recommend!) for a second opinion, they said that the wear on the planetary gear was typical for a vehicle with this many miles and did not require a rebuild of the transmission. They also highly advised against repairing the ECM which was only $ 200 cheaper than a brand new part as they have had many issues with rebuilt ECMs.
My repairs ended up costing me $ 1200 instead of the $ 2800 that TNS quoted me and the vehicle is working great! I would have expected TNS, being a shop specializing in transmissions, to have better knowledge of issues with rebuilt ECMs and what typical wear on a planetary gear would look like.

When doing transmission work, honesty is key. Garages will not give you the final cost as they need to take apart the transmission to figure out what the problem is. Long story short, Honda dealership quoted $ 2300 for the trans fix and new clutch. Tim said that he would ballpark it between $ 1200-​$ 1500. I went with Tim, and after all was said and done, the price was $ 1175. That is honesty if I have ever seen it!

Tim is the most honest auto repair shop owner I have ever met! I brought our 2004 MDX in, which was for a slipping torque converter. This problem seems to be common. Tim informed me an rebuild will run about $ 2400, but he had success in the past changing the tranny fluid and adding some anti-​slip stuff in. Sure enough, $ 150 later the problem is gone.

My wife’s car blew out it’s transmission a couple years ago. The local garage said they replaced it… but the pedigree of what they did seemed strange.
Last week, the transmission stopped working… everything was reverse! I wasn’t surprised… she drives a bit rough, and I didn’t trust the earlier work I got on the cheap.
My reputable local garage (Cudahy Auto Repair on Pennsylvania Avenue) doesn’t do transmissions and recommended TNS.
I called other transmission repair shops, and in the end I still selected TNS.
They towed in the car… and I knew they couldn’t get at it immediately because of deer hunting/​Thanksgiving week. They called me the Monday after… the price they originally quoted was $ 2,000 ($ 200 hundred less then Dunham, and no charge on the towing [exclusive to them])
I GOT AN EARLY CHRISTMAS… Tim pulled the pan on the tranny and the pan residue didn’t look like a normal blown tranny. He checked farther and found that the original repair of this tranny used a wrong linkage part.
The cost was $ 340 … vs. $ 2,000. How many others would have been that honest? I’m afraid many wouldn’t have passed up on the opportunity for a big bill.
