Sea, Surf & Fun

I signed up both my sons, 10 years old and 7 years old at Sea, Surf and fun and they had the best time and are bummed if there’s a week we are not able to make it. We continued going almost every Saturday and its been 4 months now and me and my husband are beginning to try surfing along with kids as well. Fabien is the best coach, and he ensures my younger one is in safe hands throughout the session. The session has initial coaching, beginning workout, then surfing and lasts 2 hours. He is very professional, follows up on schedule, and helps throughout the session and tries to get you to become as independent as possible. We tried another surf instructor (not a school like sea, surf and fun), and had issues with scheduling, and being consistent. Highly recommend this surf school and Fabien!

Fabien is the very best surfing instructor! Gentle, supportive and knowledgeable. I am an intermediate long boarder. Although the board he provided was a 8-​feet fun board one-​feet shorter than my own board I usually use in the home beach in Kamakura, Japan, it was a fantastic session because of Fabien’s good instructions. I really recommend Sea, Sur & Fun foe everyone who wants to surf in the half-​moon bay.

Long overdue in writing this review. In late July, I signed up my 15 yr old son for a private surf lesson with Fabien. We had previously tried a group lesson with another surf school and it wasn’t a great experience. SS&F’s previous stellar Unilocal reviews made me feel better about going forward and signing up my son. We signed up and paid online and showed up at the appointed time. A wetsuit and surfboard were provided.
My son had a great time and learned a lot. Fabien was great! Very patient and informative, my son learned a lot. We’ve been meaning to get back but my son broke his arm skating. As soon as he’s able, he’ll be back to pick up where he left off!

Très pro dans sa façon d approcher une initiation au surf et on se sent tout de suite en confiance.
On a pu découvrir en tout sécurité le surf et commencer a prendre du plaisir enfin quand on était pas sous une vague…
Petite truc qui fait la différence il a passé beaucoup de temps dans l eau à nous aider et pas simplement à nous regarder de loin …
Le lieu est un réel plus car la plage est vraiment accessible et très bien pour commencer!!!

Fabien is truly fabulous… gentle, creative, and supportive. The beach he teaches from is ideal: deserted, steady catchable waves, plus a menagerie of sea lions, dolphins and pelican flocks. It was magical, and even though I wasn’t exactly proficient after two hours (after all I am almost 60), I didn’t want it to end. I ran out and bought a surfboard the same day… definitely hooked. This is the best way to learn to surf that I can possibly imagine.

Fabien and his class was amazing. You pay in advance online and meet him in a parking lot where you change into the wet suit. He has you warm up before getting into the water.
Once you get in the water, it isn’t cold. I never once thought «wow I’m cold» the whole time I was out there. My boyfriend and myself were able to stand up right away on the board.
Fabien only takes 6 people per class so he is able to coach you the entire time you are in the water. I highly recommend taking lessons with him. It was the most fun thing I have done since moving to California.

Fabien took my 58-​year-​old mom (intermediate surfer), myself (beginner surfer), and 8-​year-​old niece (first time surfer!) out for a semi-​private (3-​person/​multi-​generational!) surf lesson. I would highly recommend Fabien’s services, for several reasons:
–He was not only knowledgeable and professional, but also able to cater his instruction to our differing skill levels.
–He brought 4/​3mm swim suits that kept us warm, good surf boards, and a mobile shower, making the whole experience hassle free.
–The place he takes his students in Half Moon Bay is a gem – beautiful, not too crowded, and perfect for all levels.
So… definitely reach out to him! I know I will.

Went with my 12 year-​old sister and had a fantastic time! It was extremely easy to coordinate and Fabien was very profession. Our instructor Peter was also great! Highly Recommend!!!

I’ve taken a few lessons from Fabien and highly recommend him if you’re considering lessons. I was a little worried taking the group lessons as I didn’t want to get stuck in a class with someone who couldn’t even paddle the board out. This hasn’t been an issue as the location in half moon bay makes it easy to paddle out. All of my classes have been with 3 – 5 students. Fabien does a good job of giving tips throughout the lesson and splitting time evenly between all students.
I started off just taking one lesson then I had so much fun that I bought the package of 5 lessons which I’m still going through, Fabien has also been great with helping me pick out a wetsuit and board so I can get out and practice on my own.

Fabian and his co-​instructors were great! I am complete beginner and went with a group of ten other similarly inexperienced newbies.
We met in a parking lot near the beach to get set up with wetsuits and boards. Note that there aren’t any changing rooms nearby, so I’d recommend coming with your swimsuit already on or bring a towel to change under. After equipping, we went down to the beach for some extensive warm-​ups and the lesson proper. Although it seemed odd at the time, the warm-​ups really helped with the cold Pacific water. Nothing feels better than cooling off in the ocean after running around the beach in a hot wet suit! For the lesson, we divided into smaller groups of three or four students per instructor, so we received plenty of individual attention. Fabian is great at constantly providing feedback and pointing out exactly what you can do to improve — super helpful!

Ich kann Sea, Surf & Fun wirklich nur weiterempfehlen. Eine kleine sympathische Surfschule, top organisiert, gutes Preis-​Leistungs-​Verhältnis und eine super Möglichkeit neue Leute kennenzulernen wenn man neu in der Stadt ist. Die Gruppen sind klein und der Surfspot unbeschreiblich schön. Ich hatte das 5-​Lesson-​Package gebucht, was genau richtig war.

Had an awesome first surfing lesson with Fabien who is a great teacher, efficient and fun. We had a great time in the water. He was also very flexible on when we could meet for the private lesson, and he even had a portable shower with hot water to wash off afterwards. I will definetely be back as soon as my body stops being sore from all that unusual physical activity :-)

Fabien made it very easy to learn a little and have a good time. He is very real, read my strengths and weaknesses and taught to my level and desire. He also paid attention to warming up and safety. My view as a middle aged father is that he connects well with virtually any student regardless of age, gender or ability.

Fabien is awesome! I had already had a surfing lesson in Australia a month ago and was eager to get out there again now that I’m back in the Bay Area. I was worried, though, about how cold the water might be and whether the waves would be beginner-​friendly.
Fabien had a high quality ⁴⁄₃ wetsuit for me to use, plus booties, and with a warmup run before we went in the water, I didn’t mind the cold at all. We were on a beautiful beach in Half Moon Bay and we were the only ones in the water, which was fantastic.
Because it was a one-​on-​one lesson (for the same price I paid for a group lesson in Sydney), he let me go at my own pace, and I could take breaks whenever I got exhausted. He gave me the basics on how to start catching waves on my own, and gave me the confidence to be able to go out again on my own.
I’ll definitely be referring friends to Fabien, so that I can get more buddies in the water with me.

The lesson was warm up, super clear instruction, bit of beach practice and then in the water for a couple of hours — excellent!
And, Fabien was super responsive when I called to sign up for the course
I don’t think you could find a more accessible teacher — really great!

Fabien is an attentive, engaged instructor who is genuinely excited about helping you learn to surf. In a group lesson, it’s a great mix of personal attention and time to practice on your own, and everything is well organized, the gear he provides is good quality. Fabien is also incredibly responsive in coordinating lesson reservations and timing, so there’s no question that when you arrive in HMB, you’ll be taken care of.

Fabien is very friendly and attentive.

I had surfed a few times before and was getting better (slowly) but a shoulder injury last year put me out of commission for quite a while. I felt that taking a class would be the best way, and Fabien was recommended to me by a surf shop in pillar point beach.
We started with a great warmup and some surf skills fundamentals and safety warnings. This class was 10% talk, 90% practice — and I really liked that. We had a good balance of practice time and 1 on 1 attention where Fabien gave pointers and tweaks on how to get on the board.
Bring a towel and change of clothes since there is no shower. The current at HMB beach is strong, so be ready to work hard!
I’ve taken the class and it really got me back on track — im going to buy a new/​used surfboard and keep practicing and I think will go back for another class once I can stand up and surf a few waves at a time.

Very highly recommended!
Just got done doing a 5 lesson pack with Fabien. Great for total beginners and also those who have been a few times and trying to improve. I had only surfed once before and by the end of the lessons I was standing up and riding pretty easily and comfortable to head out on my own.
Fabien is a great teacher and his class is a great value as well, compared to some other lessons around, it’s definitely the best bang for your buck in the area.

Fabien strangely started off with a run and a warmup, I realized something many instructors forget. Warming up the body helped alleviate muscle pains later in the day.
We also did get to see a seal sleeping, and another pair swimming close to us checking us out. Plus, unlike Linda Mar Beach we didn’t crash into anyone else while trying to surf. So plus points for Half Moon Bay.
Finally, Fabien did get us a place almost at the last minute, so that was really magnanimous of him.
The only negative point I can think of is the lack of a proper shower to rinse off your wetsuits, but then if it was there I don’t think HMB would be much different from Linda Mar.

Myself and my other half had a surf lesson today with Fabien. We had both had a few surf lessons before but both firmly in the beginner category. It was a brilliant experience. I was a bit of a scaredy cat as the waves were quite big (for beginners anyway!) and coming from all directions and he completely put me at ease. He gives you lots of one on one attention. There was no pressure to be Kelly Slater, he really let me go at my own pace which is what I wanted.
Fabien is really focused on safety so you really feel you are in safe hands but he also teaches really well.
He has all the gear that you need, I was delighted he had boots and the wetsuit I was wearing was very comfortable.
The parking lot where you meet has no amenities so don’t need to pee before hand! But its rough and ready and a real surfer experience.
I would highly recommend Sea Surf and Fun and hope to go back again soon.

I went last Saturday for a surf lesson and I have to say it was a really nice and fun experience ! Fabien is super sweet, professional and attentive.
I came as a total beginner and I was kind of scared to be really bad but actually the atmosphere is so friendly, everybody is in a good mood, Fabien makes you feel comfortable so you quickly get to enjoy it, have fun and feel confident.
It definitely made me want to improve myslef and keep learning. I also loved it for the fact of being away from the city and simply enjoy the elements (fresh air, water) It was a real getaway.
I would totally recommend it to anyone, but be careful: if you try it, you’ll be back, it’s addictive !
