Exit 9 Wine & Liquor Warehouse

Come here for the fantastic whiskey selection, or for the array of inexpensive wines.
Five stars for the whiskey selection, which offers a vast range of scotches, bourbons, ryes, and Irish & Canadian whiskeys. All the usual suspects, plus lots of bottles you won’t find in most stores, everything from $ 25 Rittenhouse Rye to 21-​year old bottles costing hundreds of dollars. For comparison, I’d say selection is at least as good, and possibly better than, All-​Star Wine & Spirits in Latham.
Three stars for the selection of other liquors (gins, vodkas, tequilas, etc.), which is narrower and more typical of an average store.
As for wines, it really depends on what you’re looking for. I’d guess that 80−90% of the wines here are priced $ 20 or less, with most being in the $ 10 — 15 range. If you’re looking for a special bottle, or a highly rated wine, this is absolutely not the place. If, on the other hand, you’re looking to take a flier on an inexpensive wine to go with a simple weeknight meal at home, they’ve got you covered.

This is quite literally a wine and liquor warehouse, for sure! There are so many kinds to choose from, and they do have a lot of my favorite wines in stock.
The workers are somewhat friendly and they have wine-​tastings sometimes.
I was a little baffled by the prices — I was under the impression that they were boasting good prices, but they are not competitive at all. It’s a good place to run in to if you have to, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here.

Okay you think you’ve gone into a liquor or wine store before… then there is this place. I say place lightly, its more like a shopping mall of its own with everything you could possibly want from a wine or spirit.
The staff is more than willing to help locate a particular brand and even check the back room or ask other employees for help if they are having trouble — Legit this place is just incredible.
The prices are as fair as it gets too. If you are a fan of any particular spirit or wine give these guys a shot and chances are you’ll not only find the same brands but yes they are indeed a few bucks cheaper or sometimes even several dollars less.
You’re gana want a shopping cart while you’re here too. its like a grown ups candy shop in here.
They also have a rewards card that starts piling up just by shopping here — a must go place for anyone who is into any kind of liquor or wine connoisseurs. I totally left out the cigar room they have which seems really cool but I’m not into them so don’t have much feedback.
Go check this place out, you’ll surely love it from the friendly people there (I was asked by one to have a random free tequila tasting — really? OKAY!) to the enormous selection… you really can’t beat it here ladies and gents.

I was there last week with a list of 5 bottles of wine I needed for the holidays. When they were at their old location (by the clock tower) the staff would leave the registers to help me find what I needed. Last week I walked in to the new HUGE warehouse location which is mostly wasted space. There were about 5 to 6 ladies up front, all talking together in a circle (talking about personal things, not related to business). They did not stop gossiping when they saw me walk in. I just stood there by the entrance hoping one of them would be professional enough to ask me if I needed help. After standing there staring at the group of employees, I realized no one was going to offer me any help. Their personal chat was far more interesting than a customer wanting to make a purchase it seemed. Finally I had enough & I said «is there ANYONE here that can help me find what I need?» One of them said «what is it you need» with an attitude in her voice and on her face. I showed her my list and she said she had not heard of 3 of the wines on the list. I asked her if there was some way she could look them up on a computer or in her inventory list. She picked up a phone and 5 minutes of waiting a young man came from the back asking me what I wanted. All this time I had a 13 yr old in my car who was in a hurry to get home.
I showed this young man my list and he went to the computer right by the registers in the front to look up what I wanted (which one of the 6 ladies should have done 15 minutes earlier). However, seeing as there were 6 ladies with nothing to do, it occurred to me that they should be learning what they have in stock and where it is located. Call me stupid, but isn’t that their job? What exactly is their job? I wonder if the owner/​manager of the store knows that these ladies are so busy gossiping that they are losing money. The wines on my list were not RARE or over $ 50 a bottle. The young man said there was one of them in stock, but he had to find where it was. By then, I had been in the store 25 minutes with nothing found on my list. I told him not to try any more, and I left. The next day I took my list to the small liquor store up Route 146 next to the old Price Chopper (Jack’s?). They had everything on my list and each bottle was found by the owner’s son, and totaled up it was $ 178.
If the Manager of Wine & Liquor Warehouse does not open his/​her eyes and get the staff some training, they will be out of business within a year. I will not go there again. There is ZERO customer service.

Nice place for all your alcohol needs. Join the club for free discounts and earn money off after so much spent. If you drink a lot, it does pay back more than just a hangover.

Bad customer service. I called to ask what time this place closes. The employee said 9pm. I told him I was coming from Colonie and what bottle of wine I wanted and he put the wine at register one and told me to be at the store by 9:00pm. It was literally 9pm when I pulled in and 9:01pm when I got to the door. There was literally six employees staring at me and then proceeded to ignore me. I sat there in the parking lot as all the employees when to the front door and stared at me, it looked as if they were setting a security code. They left and I’m sitting here. I felt like since I got here at 9pm and it was 9:01 and they already pulled the wine for me at the cash register they would have had better customer service and sold me the wine. Instead I get stared at and ignored… I am pretty irritated.

A warehouse in lack of service, not in low price. Not a great selection, just a lot of space with the same old stuff (I was stunned to find unfindable items at Empire Wine). And make sure you know what the right price is, and demand it at the register, because there’s no guarantee they’ll be accurate. Stopped in to buy a Greek Retsina wine, was told it was $ 7.86 and the $ 6.86 price on the sign was just for members (which I knew wasn’t true, but Exit 9 seems to resent correcting its errors). Just went along with it, but thought I’d give them a last chance (I wasn’t going back because of other customer service horror stories, like the employees who do nothing but gather by the registers and discuss their social lives), went back for two more bottles and they hadn’t corrected anything. At checkout finally got an employee to work and actually check the sign, and at long last they admitted I was right. I mentioned the previous ONE bottle I’d gotten before, and was told by «Mike» that I would have to drive all the way back to the store, with my receipt (long since thrown out) if I wanted that corrected. His attitude seemed to be that I was trying to steal the grand total of one dollar from Exit 9 (and better to keep one dollar than one customer).
This is hardly the only problem that’s made me give up on Exit 9. Customers are treated as an interruption, don’t expect any help here (even asking where something is) or knowledge from the teeny-​bopper staff who seem too young to buy their store’s products (in contrast I was happily surprised by the amazing knowledge at Empire, knowing even the least known items like «amizaki»). I had asked about a Spanish wine, and gone through two employees who didn’t know the location and didn’t want to be bothered. Finally I got someone to call someone else, and looked at other wine as I waited. They never showed up, and on the way out I saw the person who was supposed to help. He said he’d been waiting for me to come over to him!
In summary, don’t even bother. The prices are realistically far from a great deal (not even a good deal), and price is about their only selling point. You can do far better just about anywhere else — and that includes the corner liquor store.

This place has every and any type of wine and liquor you can possible want. Their selection is the best in Clifton Park, and the cheapest too. I heard that Empire’s prices are lower but it isn’t conveniently located for me. I particularly love that they have every wine section labeled off by regions in the world. I am always at their California section and Italy section trying new and different wines. The staff member that helped me was extremely knowledgeable. It is hard to fine people like that, that really know their stuff about wines. I find if I talk to someone that knows their shit #1 have a long and interesting conversation and #2 end up buying more wine than I originally went in to get. This is my first place I stop for wine and rare wine and they usually have it. Great place and Great people!

I really like this place, it always has exactly what I want, and it usually has it for better prices then anywhere else. I’m always mad at myself when I shop else wear and then go here cause I usually could have saved 5 or more dollars. I was also super excited to find that they had George T. Stagg in stock because its extremely hard to find (or so I’m told) and all I had to do was e-​mail them and then ask in store… because its in the back room. Every time I’ve gone here I’ve gotten excellent customer service. There is always someone willing to help me and give me suggestions (which are usually amazing), and the check out is always quick and easy.

I have only been in here a few times, but I’ve never had a pleasant experience. The staff seem uninterested, and their prices are significantly higher than Empire’s.

Exit 9 Wine and Liquor is a pretty good place. It’s in a huge space since moving from its original location, and while they do have a lot of inventory it does feel a bit too big with a fair amount of unused space. Aside from that, I really have no negatives for this place. The staff seems to be competent and friendly, the selection is good and the location is convenient.

Exit 9 Wine and Liquor offers a huge selection and is definitely the cheapest place around, but I feel sort of guilty shopping at these sorts of places. Somewhere there’s an elderly wine shop owner crying quietly into his cabernet sauvignon, I’m sure.
That said, I do like to save money.
As to whether or not you’ll like Exit 9 Wine and Liquor, I guess it comes down to what you’re looking for in a liquor store. If you want ambiance, go elsewhere. If you don’t mind bright fluorescent lights and pallets of good, inexpensive wine littered all over the place, Exit 9 is the place for you.

This is a very nice store. They seem to have everything I need. Now that they moved to a new location (which is very close to the old). It’s bigger and better. Very friendly staff too!

After shopping around at some of the local wine and spirits shops, Exit 9 is really tied for first place with All-​Star.
But in the «Thanksgiving Challenge» this year, Exit 9 was the winner by a mile. I was looking for some esoteric wines. An interesting non-​malbec Argentinean wine and something good from Sicily for under $ 20 a bottle. I got a 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon and a white wine from Sicily which was dynamite.
Plus, Exit 9 continues to carry White Horse Blended Scotch for only $ 20 a bottle. With gas back at $ 2 a gallon, I can still justify the trip.
Here are my wishes for Exit 9:
1) Open up another store off exit 9 on I-​90, so you can be closer and «true to brand»
2) Expand your spirit selection to include some of the awesomeness that is on the shelves at All-​Star
3) Free delivery to Albany

A Toys R Us for wine aficionados and alcoholics. Nestled in a strip mall off of 87, it’s a must visit on my weekly commute. A fun place to wander around and get lost amidst the vast selection and buy up more bottles than you intended to when you walked in («but it’s less than 10 dollars yet has a 90 rating from some wine guru I don’t know or trust so why not buy a few of them?»). The prices are, as mentioned below, quite good with occasional added discounts and sales to make the prices even better. Considering the ginormous size of the place, there’s an overabundance of California wine which seems to take up half of the department-​store sized grounds. I’m not complaining since I like California wine but, given the size of the place, I’d expect it to be more geographically diverse and they come up short with the French and Italian and some major wine-​producing countries are barely represented (although there’s a good selection of cheap but excellent Spanish wines).
