I always get the large (20″) Italian and its shared between my wife and I. A few days ago we got one and it was BY FAR THE WORST SANDWICH I EVER HAD. The roll was so stale, it was hard, and so dried out it crumbled when you bit into it. The lettice was soft and mushy and it the sandwich smelled mustie.
For around $ 15.00, I will be going over across the street to Russo’s Pizza and get two sandwiches made with fresh pizza dough and eat a much better sandwich for the money.

I really liked this place! Sandwiches (subs) were good. Service was friendly. And fries were fresh cut.
I really would like to try the cheesesteak next time. Hecky’s special was really good (their Italian).
Not a complaint or praise, just an observation. The place has rolls that are super soft and chewey. Not crusty at all. I really liked them. This is not a bad thing. Just as people are Sitting here looking and thinking about getting a sub, know it is more like really soft, really good bread inside and out, not crusty on the outside, soft on the inside.
I’d go again for sure the next time I’m out here and I’m glad I stopped.

I had a chicken cheese steak mini and small curly fries. The mini is a decent size but I was hungry. So the next size up might have been better. I loved the sandwich! I added «Cali style» — lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers — except without the peppers. This was an extra cost. The tomato on top of the sandwich was weird and not easy to eat. Plus the tomato was a bit mushy texture. Curly fries were good and as expected. The small was enough.
Hubby had the chicken parm and it had mozzarella sticks in it. He was happy but he has had better. He had the large curly fries which was a whole lot!
Loved the atmosphere even though it was a tad cold inside. Customer service was meh. Not rude but not really that pleasant. I really liked their dishes. They look heavy but they are actually plastic.

Pretty good sandwiches and a pleasant environment to sit, relax, and chow down in Hamburg. If you are in the area and tired of always eating at Red Robin, Five Guys, or Cracker Barrel, spend five extra minutes and drive into down and visit Hecky’s. It’s a nice change of pace.

Stopped in after a hiking trip on the AT and it was well worth it. Had a great cheesesteak prepared exactly as ordered, and really good home made onion rings. Cheesesteaks are enormous, you’ll be doing well to eat all of the small which is ten inches long. Prices were reasonable and the service fast and friendly.

I was looking for lunch so I hit the Unilocal app and it brought me to this place Heckys which as soon as I walked in I thought wow this is nice and tole the young lady this was my first time here she recommends the special which was grilled turkey and Swiss on a pretzel roll it was perfect portion and came with curly fries it was absolutely awesome.

Awesome sub shop! My boyfriend and I each ordered a cold sub to eat in and a bowl of chicken rice soup to split. The subs were great and big! The soup was bland.

We stopped here based on Unilocal reviews on our way to Hershey Park. The reviews didn’t let us down. The Philly cheese steak (onions and peppers) and side salad we ordered was amazing. The portions were generous (not overly so) so my husband and I ended up splitting a medium sub. Our kids really enjoyed the homemade fries and kid meals. The restaurant itself is clean, modern and the staff is friendly. We are so glad we listened to the Unilocal reviewers! If you like a homemade and unique sub, stop here… you won’t be disappointed.

First time here. Found about this establishment when using Unilocal to find local eateries to patronize on our planned trip to cabelas. This place is a needle in a haystack. If you didn’t know it was there you’d probably never look for it. This isn’t your normal sub shop. VERY clean, nice décor, and friendly service. Loved the fans and track lighting throughout the place. I had the half cheesesteak. Comes in mini, half and full if I remember correctly. The half was more than enough for 1 person. Taste and quality was excellent. If your in close proximity to this place and you don’t stop in, its your loss.

Been here many times and its consistently good. Fries are made to order and delicious. I always get the cheesesteak with sauce and onions and it is so good that I’m not motivated to try anything else. Be careful, you can burn your mouth on the cheesesteak because it is piping hot when you get it.

Stopped in based on the reviews on Unilocal.I found the food to be average in both flavor, proportions and price. We had the chicken noodle soup which had no flavor. The chicken parm sandwich and cheesesteak was your normal run of the mill hoagies. I would not go out of my way to come back here.

I haven passed this wonderful sandwich shop for over 20 years and finally drove here as they had a special offer for Unilocalers. Buy a small 11 inch sandwich… get a free small drink and fries. The fries were very tasty and needed no ketchup. The soda here is Pepsi products. My turkey and provolone sandwich was presented on a huge soft roll, which held up well. The turkey and cheese blended well and the fresh lettuce, tomatoes and mayo gave my sandwich the «finishing touch». I had to take half if it home as I was stuffed… and this will be a routine stop for me when I am hungry in Hamburg.

Delicious, delicious subs. Truly a standout in the area, with both cold and hot options of hoagies featuring the classic cold cuts as well as hamburger patties and chili on their Texas Burger Sub.
The atmosphere is wide, bright, and clean. It offers a better dine-​in experience than even some local chain stores, friendly service included.
So far, the only disappointment I’ve had was with the sides. The pierogies were tough, chewy, and reminiscent of the frozen stuff. Fries were a bit too greasy and would turn soggy over time.
Regardless, I will happily return again and again for Hecky’s specialties!

Stopped here as a quick lunch driving on I-​78. Off the road and well worth the trip. Best cheesesteak ever. Their small is a serious sub; order a mini unless you have a huge appetite. Good, flavorful fries and the best catsup I have tasted. Must be homemade! Clean and friendly service, too!

I and three friends had lunch here today and it was really good. Three of us had different kinds of cheese-​steaks, and the fourth had a turkey hoagie. We split an order of fries. All of it was tasty and quick, and we’d all go again. Hecky’s also honored the Unilocal free drink and soda on our order, which I much appreciated.
A comment on other reviews. The reviews are pretty old, and the most recent review (12 months ago) seems to mostly complain about the soup. I can’t comment on the soup, but if you’re going to a place called «Hecky’s Sub Shop» maybe you should order a sub. They’re good.
