History

Established in 1960.

It is believed that the house that is now Alphabet Academy at 605 Benham Street is the oldest nursery school in Hamden. It was always a great school, however, its most recent iteration was created six years ago by its current owner and director, Amy Small. Amy had a vision to create a truly different child care center that works with parents to both model and inspire the children to immerse themselves into a life-​long love of learning.

Nestled in a quiet, residential neighborhood, Alphabet Academy thrives on its diverse community and dedicated teachers whose focus is to nurture curious, joyful children who are excited about coming to school everyday!

Business Owner

Amy is a Hamden resident who is intensely passionate about the possibilities for quality childcare in America. After thoroughly enjoying raising her children, she now focuses much of her energy on her newest baby, Alphabet Academy.

It is obvious to all that visit Alphabet that Amy takes great pride in the center she has created and attributes the success of Alphabet Academy to her daily involvement in all aspects of day-​to-​day happenings at the school.
