I’ve been here several times and the food quality is pretty inconsistent but it’s located so close to my house that I keep trying! Usually the Greek salad is GREAT, but the last time I went And picked up my order the salad was not the same Greek salad I always order– missing the feta cheese, sliced olives instead of the whole olives, no pepperocini peppers, I didn’t notice until I got home. Also ordered a buffalo chicken wrap which was supposed to have lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing along with the chicken. It was only chicken. I did also order a small pepperoni pizza which WAS very good. In the past the pizza has always been good, but when ordering sandwiches/wraps they’re lacking in taste or in accuracy of what the menu describes. The staff is always very friendly and quick though! The cannolis are also AMAZING

Friendly service. Food is just a-ok. We didn’t have anything that has us clamoring to return. Given all the options in the area this was most likely our only visit.

Very friendly staff and accommodating menu for kids. Perfect for those living in New York area looking for some good pizza and homemade food on your travels. The restaurant is full with locals and a full parking lot and tables on Sunday evening should say it all.

Probably my favorite place to get pizza in Hamden. It isn’t Sally’s or Bar, but it is very good and satisfying, and rarely a wait. I used to think their pasta was just okay, then my son tried the plum tomato, garlic and basil sauce… this sauce smelled so much like the wonderful red sauce they have at Basta that I had to try it – and it was just as good(at a much lower price!).

No consistency !! Ate in w family it was ok @ best. Tried takeout, first time it was actually good. Tried 2 more times and it was horrible. I even called back to let them know to pay attention when listening to order and executing because it wasn’t done. Never again. Food was terrible !!

Long overdue review. Yea there’s Sallies, Peppes, Modern nearby. But if you’re in the area, should stop by at Eli’s. Fantastic pizza and phenomenal service. I always get the roasted pepper and eggplant, as well as the clam. Manager Mike is awesome. I used to order from Eli’s almost every weekend, on few rare occasions they over cooked the pies, Mike not only replaced the pies without complain and charges, he would also offer free pizzas for the next order. His response was so friendly and accommodating that I’d feel guilty to accept the free pies. Since moving to SoCal, I’ve yet to find pizza and service as good as Eli’s

Rough takeout service. 20 min to warm up two slices. And then forgot the rest of our order.

Pizza and take out is really good from here, their spud pie is really good(mashed potato pizza), it’s a something a little different than the norm. The large pizzas are a good size, however the pizzas are a little pricey. Parking is tight unless you are parking across the street, around lunch and dinner time it isn’t quick to park and run in to pick up your order.

Pizza is a sore subject for me. I know how easy it is to do it right, so I expect top quality when being charged $ 26 for a 3 topping pie. Pizzerias of new haven/hamden, I demand you stop burning my pizza and sneakily leaving little disclaimers about how hot the oven is. You aren’t fooling me. Burnt to where the dough has actually turned black, and stick to my teeth is just not good eats. Learn how to use the oven. I also don’t want to hold for several minutes, and no, I don’t want to order online. Broccoli rabe pizza is good, large calzone is a pure disaster huge mountain of cheese inside a pizza dough. I get that the whole point of a calzone is cheese, but I can’t eat a mound of ricotta for dinner, I just can’t. Oh, and please season it, you are a restaurant for crying out loud.

I had the mozzarella with caramelized onions pizza and it was not bad at all. The crusted was crispy as on a wood fired oven can do and the rest of the pie was properly cooked. A good pizza is getting very hard to find in the Greater New Haven area, lately so if you are in the area, I highly recommend a pie from Eli’s.

Pizza needs to be crisper. They don’t cook it long enough and it’s somewhat tasteless. The staff is nice and friendly so that helps a bit. Compared to Modern or Bar I give it a B–

This take out/more casual sit down side of Eli’s is great! Its a very easy spot to grab a bite, they have all the classics you would want like penne vodka and the signature salad, and delicious pizza’s! The pizza is thin crusted(which I am a huge fan of) and they have a bunch of specialty pizzas that are always a good option. I also love that they have a take out section, I stop to get the signature salad with grilled chicken all the time when I need a quick lunch on the go. Service is good, very casual experience, the restaurant is very clean and usually pretty quiet. If you want to get food for take out and are in a rush i recommend calling ahead!

NEVERAGAIN!!! I ordered a house salad tonight along with a few pizzas for my family… it’s the salad with apples, walnuts, gorgonzola(I always order without gorgonzola), cranberries and vinaigrette dressing. When I got it… there was NO apples and NO cranberries… just lettuce and dressing and a few walnuts on top… from the outside it looked like it was fine… until I went to mix it up in a bigger bowl and noticed how empty it was… I figured someone had to make it fresh since I asked for no cheese so they probably got busy and forgot… I called the place and told the girl on the phone… I asked if she wanted me to bring in the salad to exchange but she said no to come back and I’d get a new one… So I’m like okay sounds good. It’s cold outside and I had just gotten home from work so I really didn’t wanna go back after spending 30+ dollars in the first place but whatever, mistakes happen. HERE“S THECRAZYPART… I go in to get a new one… very friendly… then this guy comes from the back and goes«you had the salad?» I said«yes» and he slams down a fucking container with four slices of apples in it… and says condescendingly«there you go!» are you kidding me!!! FOURSLICESOFAPPLESDOESNOT A SALADMAKE!!! What about the cranberries? The lettuce? the EVERYTHING? I am NOT the type to make a scene considering I’m in the food service industry myself so I laughed, stared at it, grabbed it and said««thanks SO much» Will never come back again. So disrespectful and rude… I don’t know what I did… maybe they were having a bad night but I sure as hell will never go back. This awful service made me create an account. It was that bad. I’d rather have had you spit in my face to be honest.

I go here often because it’s convenient but this place can be either good or disappointing. The last time I went here was a disappointment. I ordered a large cheese with half mushrooms and the entire pizza was soggy. They use too much sauce and the mushrooms were not fully cooked. I keep telling myself I won’t return but they’re right up the street so I always try to give them another chance but I wouldn’t recommend this place because when it’s bad it’s bad and you’ll be mad at yourself for spending money on nasty pizza.

Can’t really understand how a big operation could get it so wrong. Ordered food at 835pm and it about an hour for them to get it ‘right’. Food(Stromboli) was first nuked, which wasn’t acceptable. 4 slices of pizza took half an hour. Another part of meal close to an hour. Sorry, who you hire will impact your business.

And the decline of customer service at Eli’s continues… both at the bar and the pizza market. 6 years ago when I started working in Hamden, Eli’s had good food and good service… as the years have marched on, the service has slowed, and the quality of food has slipped. I’ve witnessed firsthand some terrible customer service where the bar tender was much more interested in having a personal call rather than taking care of his lunch crowd on several days in a row(yes, I used to come here that often.) We had our company Holiday party at Eli’s restaurant group last Christmas(2013) and at the last minute they put us into a different room that quite frankly looked dirty and dungeon like. The closest thing that I can see being related to it is a funeral parlor in feel and ambiance. Top that event off with food that was worse quality than a lot of giant chain businesses and it was a perfect storm to illustrate the lackluster quality. Fast forward to today. I tried to call ahead to place an order for pizza. We have a 1 hour lunch and we have been late several times getting back from here. I asked the woman who answered the phone if I can place an order ahead and she said«No, we don’t do that; but our dining room is empty.» I tried to explain to her my concern and I offered to prepay for everything over the phone but alas, I am sitting here typing a review rather than eating their pizza. She said that I could order a take out order and then eat it outside of their dining area… umm… if I wanted to order take out I would have done it already. I can literally see the restaurant from my office building windows.

i never order from this place and now i know why, was told 30⁄40 mins i roll in at 35mins. I then proceed to get told 5 more minutes from the counter girl. 30MINUTESLATER they bring my pizzas out. Shells found in the clams casino and with all the pizza places in Hamden and Né Haven i regret going here and they def lost my business, screw this place

As far as I’m concerned, it’s the best pizza in New Haven County. I would take it hands-down over Pepe’s or Sally’s. I like BAR, but it doesn’t beat this(though good for a change of pace sometimes). It’s been a while since I had Modern, and need to try them again, but while I liked them, they never made the impression on me that Eli’s did. My favorite is their pesto pizza. Be aware it’s a lot of pesto(& the oil will rob you of a crispy center crust, only the edge will be awesome). Hmmm, maybe I should try ordering with half the amount of pesto applied. But if that doesn’t sound right for you, consider their Margarita. Similar pie, but no pesto on it. It’s been a while, but I believe you’ll get a crispier crust. To completely avoid the crust issue, try their On The Bayou. I’m not one who can eat spicy foods, but it’s within my tolerance. And a really interesting combination of flavors. The Firehouse(mozz/ricotta/eggplant/etc) is mild, but good, I like it for a change of pace.

Never have sat down for a meal here yet, have always gotten take-out. One time we got pizza to go and it had an amazing pizza oven crisp to it, almost too cooked/burnty. Another time we got it and the middle wasn’t even cooked, it was dough and we ate the edges only. Therefore, the pizza seems to be hit or miss. We’re afraid to get the pizza again for fear of how it will be. The signature salad is the way to go, I day dream about it. I’ve also gotten tom, mozz, flatbread sanwiches that are fresh and great too. Just still unsure about that pizza…
