These are by far the best gorditas I have ever had, they taste authentic just like visiting Mexico ! The gorditas here are slim but crunchy just like they sell on the street in Mexico. This place is really dives but by far one of the best gorditas anywhere hands down. If you crave mexican in Indiana this is the place for you. I recommend the carne asada gorditas and tacos ! A must

One word: EXCELLENT. I went on a whim after church looking for a decent taco. What I found was a homemade steak taco on homemade tortillas with homemade Verde and red salsas. I will be back.

Wow fresh tortillas! Walking in the doorway we were a little concerned but as soon as you walk through the door you are taken into the cutest little authentic place. The steak tacos were amazing and the price was right. Also had the pineapple water which was delicious.

We just found this place across the street from the South Shore station in Hammond and I can’t wait to go back. We called every Mexican restaurant here on Unilocal in the area(about 50 total) and this was the only place that actually makes fresh, homemade tortillas. There is another restaurant next door claiming to have the best tacos in town, but an older lady coming out of Gorditas Los Metates told us that the other place isn’t good and Los Metates is much better. I knew this was the place for me when I walked in and saw an old lady mixing the dough for the tortillas by hand. It was just like all of the murals you see painted on the walls of other restaurants claiming to be authentic. Then the wonderful aroma of fresh menudo hit me and I stood in the doorway drooling. The food is great and authentic. They have large menu board on the wall with your traditional ways to prepare your food such as with carne asada or chorizo and egg, but they also have machacado or chicharrones. The make fresh menudo every Saturday and Sunday morning. The food was so good that my wife placed another order to go so we could have it again for dinner. If you’re still not sold on this place… they have bendy straws!
