Stop by this place whenever you’re in town. The best taco pastor between New Orleans and Jacksonville Florida. Found this place thanks to the advice of a Southeastern university student. Great job by the chef and servers. Great food at only a single $ sign. Won’t break the bank.

Love love LOVE this place! I have ate here several times and every time is has been superb! Margaritas are good and strong. I had chimichanga with chicken and it was delicious. A friend sof mine has the shrimp tacos and the giant burrito with barbacoa and it was the best thing I’ve ever had! The name doesn’t sound to appealing or catchy but consider this place a hidden gem!!!

4.5 so rounding up to 5 stars. Remarkably authentic Mexican food. Brisket Taco, Chorizo Sope, Fish Tacos. Perfect heat in all the dishes. Meaty servings, no skimping on the proteins. The waitress was super sweet and very attentive, coming back and checking on us a couple of times. I drive down to Hammond from Southern Mississippi and I am so glad there is a Mexican joint that knows to put cilantro and onion on a taco(actually, the fish tacos had the appropriate cabbage, pico, creama mix). One aside, the fish tacos are 9.99 with a side of pickled jalapeño but would have been 8.37 a la carte. Pricey side of pickled jalapeños.

There is nothing more disappointing and annoying then to go to a «Mexican» restaurant that plays hipster or psycadelic music!!! Have some respect for your trade look into good Mexican authentic music everyone would like. I was so disgusting I left after having a guacamole appetizer. Alex our service was not the most friendliest. Ugh!!!

GREAT food BUT they need to work on their service because they were on their phones while we needed things and had to call to them. But nonetheless best shrimp cocktail ive had and great bean soup. VERY good prices! If the service was better i would give them more stars.

Love their fish tacos! I get them every time we dine here. I’ve also been on Taco Tuesday, but I wasn’t impressed with any of their meat tacos. Very cool place in downtown Hammond. Definitely worth a try!

Went in on lunch break while in town on business. Tacos were great. I had the carne asada tacos. The tacos themselves were decent,(not terrible, nothing to write home about either) the biggest issue that I had was with the salsa that came with the tacos. It tasted more like marinara sauce than salsa. I asked if there was anything else, unfortunately that was all that they had. I guess from now on I will stick to eating tacos back home in Houston Texas.

I went to Tacos and Beer for a late night meal. The atmosphere was similar to other Mexican food places. I ordered the torta, the Mexican poboy(their words), with chorizo. It came with a side of pickled jalapeños. The food was absolutely delicious. The bread was soft, the chorizo was well seasoned and a bit spicy. The pickled jalapeños gave it a little extra kick. I also ordered an agua fresca, or horchata as it is called in Mexico. This is a tasty, cool beverage, especially on a hot summer evening or when eating spicy food. It is made with rice milk, cinnamon & vanilla and really hit the spot. The service was excellent. The prices are very affordable. There are a few TVs to watch as well. I will definitely be back.

I sent my son for take out and the food he returned with was very good. Large portions! I had the D.U.I. Fries and they were absolutely loaded with steak, cheese, jalapeños, sour cream and steak fries. My hard to please husband, who is on the eternal quest for the best cheeseburger in Hammond was even very pleased with his half pound monster burger. I had been previously to dine in and was impressed with the service and the delicious fish tacos. Good stuff!

I went to Tacos and Beer on a Monday for their 2 for 1 pint special. At the front door I was met by a white guy wearing a rasta hat, two pretentious hippy looking guys and the over whelming scent of nag champa, and I immediately thought«oh. This is going to be one of THOSE places.» When I got inside I had to stand at the bar for a good five minutes before the pissy, too-cool bar tender payed any attention to me… he was too busy bitching about things with rasta man and his two girl friends. Finally when I got his attention he told me that beers I see on the chalk board on the wall are the ones on tap. I ordered a Coors light«we’re out, but we have Blue Moon» «uum, can I get a PBR I guess?» «We’re out.» «Ok, how about a Boulevard Wheat?» guess what…“we’re out.” «Ok fine! Just give me Blue Moon!» So I got my pint of Blue Moon and sat down at a table. A few minutes later the bar tender, who appeared to be the only one working, yells from the bar«do you need a menu or something?! Or are you just drinking?!» So I informed him that I was waiting for a menu. He eventually brought me a menu full of generic Mexican food items and combos that cost way too much. I ordered the grilled fish tacos combo and asked if I could substitute some gross-ass side for Mexican rice. After thinking about it for way too long, the bar tender said«yeah, maayn, I can do that for ya. I gotcha buddy.» Oh, you got me? Ok rice buddy, I’m trustin’ ya with this one… I hope you live up to my expectations. My food came out fairly quickly, and it was just as expensive and pretentiously bland as I was expecting. The rice was pretty much a shot glass amount of rice-a-roni…my rice buddy in fact didn’t have my back. My fish tacos were tasteless and came with a boring southwest sauce. As I was finishing up my food, buddy bar tender came back to get me my second pint and he asked«so…uum…like how was the food maayn?» I told me it was ok, hoping he’d just leave me alone. He then pushed the issue«so, uum… I like, noticed you asked for sour cream, was that because the southwest sauce was too spicy maayn?» I told him no, it was because the fish tacos needed something to cover them up. Then he kept going«ok, I hear ya maayn. So how’d ya like the food? Was it spicy?» I told him it was really really not spicy. He looked sad, so I told him that it wasn’t bad, but not really spicy. He then looked dejected and said«ok maayn, but you won’t find better tacos anywhere else in Hammond. I mean, like, feel free to look, and go try other places… but this place is the best!» Oh ok. Thank you for giving me permission to try other Mexican restaurants. I really appreciate it. I was previously afraid that it might violate the terms of our friend ship. The food was not large in quantity and fairly over priced. Patchouli, a sound track mixed with bob Marley and John Lennon, white guys with rasta hats and having no options as far as beer goes, just really isn’t indicative of my kinda place. Oh, I’ll try other places alright, next time I will just drive through Taco Bell, order a Doritos taco and some fire sauce with some flavor, then stop by race trac and get a six pack of a beer I actually like… I will save money and save my self from that jackass bar tender.

The taco meat was very chewy and somewhat fatty. No matter how many times I repeated my order to the waiter, it was still wrong. I just wasn’t impressed. Won’t be going back. Taco Bell, for once, is better than Mexican restaurant.

Amazing fish tacos. The waiter also suggested a pork taco and it was amazing. Fresh ingredients and amazing atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place to anyone either passing through or for a quick bite to eat.

LIKES: I highly recommend the ceviche for a cool, summer appetizer. The ingredients were fresh and flavorful. I order the fish tacos and was more than pleased. The batter and oil were apparently fresh. The real deal would be to come on Tuesday nights when they offer $ 1.00 tacos. The cow tongue taco was KILLER! DISLIKES: I gave Tacos & Beer a lower rating because they charged me for a beer that I did not like or drink. I thought there may have been something in the line… the beer had a metallic, soapy taste; they insisted not. Regardless, they should have offered me another beer and/or removed it from my bill. This is not good customer service. Swallow $ 3.50 to make your customers happy and they will return with business. Overall, I would eat there again with lowered expectations of the management.

My first visit was on «Taco Tuesday», some of the best tacos(they offer many different filling options, al pastor, carnitas, barbacoa etc) on the Northshore and only one BUCK!$!$! cha-ching!(my one $ price rating based on Taco Tuesday, the other menu items seemed to have typical $$ pricing) The Ceviche was very tasty as well and they made a tasty beverage called a Michelada(first time with one of those). The beer and drinks menu seemed to be solid/typical, did not pay attention to any wines… oops. I did not try anything else on the menu, which seemed to have all the usual suspects, if everything else matches their tasty tacos I may have to bump them to 5stars. The server seemed new-ish at first, but appeared to grow more confident as the night went on and was diligent in checking on our and her other tables. I will try and get a better menu pic next Tuesday, yup I am going back for more.

Updated review: I truly believe in supporting local business… My first experience here(when they first opened) left a lot to be desired. Over the past few months, I have eaten here a few times and it has been really good. The atmosphere is a hole-in-the-wall. It’s a good thing, I liked it. Good place to relax and have a beer or two. It reminded me of the atmosphere of Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar and Grill in New Orleans. Margaritas are good, and they have nightly drink specials. **$ 3 top shelf margarita** The food is much better now. When they first opened, I just was not impressed due to the lack of flavor. Over the last few months, the kitchen has really improved. Everything I have tried has a good flavor, it tastes freshly made, and most of the prices are in the $ 8-$ 12 range. Not bad at all.
