Trey Yuen Cuisine Of China

My family comes in from Baton Rouge just to eat here! We’ve been eating here since I’ve been itty bitty and it’s always delicious! The quality has gone down a little bit from back in its hay day but it’s still delicious and we always leave full and happy. (We always order extra food to take back home with us so that we can enjoy it for many more days). This is much better Chinese food than anything we can find in BR!

The restaurant is dirty. Carpet is disgusting, tables are sticky, old odor to the whole place. It used to amazing. My family started going there when they were in the parking lot across the street. Such a shame.

I’m disappointed how neglected this restaurant has become. When I was a kid this place was five stars every single day. This place used to amaze me sadly its but a shadow of its former self. The building itself looks unkept. The place is empty during the week. I went on a Tuesday only to find out the all day lunch menu is Monday. That was disappointing. It’s pretty expensive. The place felt abandoned, empty, and kinda creepy. I would encourage management to spend some money and make this place great again.
As far as food… It was ok. Nothing you couldn’t enjoy from a strip mall Chinese take out for ¹⁄₅ the price.

Interesting place with very good food. I stopped for lunch and had an egg roll and the Choo Choo Chicken with fried rice. Delicious! I loved the décor, as well.

This restaurant used to be one of my fave’s and I’ve been eating there since around 1990. I used to get cravings for some of their dishes, like the Tong Cho Pork and the Mongolian Beef. But after being away for awhile I lunched there a couple weeks ago. The whole restaurant seems to have gone downhill. The formally lovely grounds and coy pond were unkempt and full of weeds. The restaurant itself had a dirty, moldy odor and looked unclean. It’s hard to enjoy food while dealing with an unpleasant odor.
The food quality was a shadow of it’s formal greatness. My pork dish was mostly fat and over fried. The tong cho sauce was off. The broccoli in my friend’s dish looked old with yellow spots. Since the condiments sit uncovered in bowls on the table throughout the day, I had to pass on dipping into that. I’m not sure if they have had a change of management or ownership but it is not a place I would return to at this point. Which is sad because it used to be so damn good.
I should have known when we walked in and the place was almost completely empty that something had changed.

This is a good Chinese Restaurant. Ever since I’ve eaten here for the first time a year ago; I stop in to eat whenever I drive through Hammond. I’ve never had a bad dining experience here before and the egg flour soup is both mine and my wife’s favorite that we’ve had anywhere. The wait staff is always very good and the food is always very good. But if you like egg drop soup then you absolutely must try the egg flour soup. You will thank me for that.

This place is outstanding. The food was delicious. The service was excellent and the price was very reasonable. We had spring rolls for starters and they were some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Moo goo gui pan was flavored perfectly. All the dishes were perfect and served in a traditional Asian style.
We ate round robin as we would’ve in Japan or Thailand. We will definitely be returning when passing through this area.

The absolute worse meal I’ve ever had. The service was non existent. Never again. The one in Mandeville was good the last time I ate there, stay away.

With my favorite CHIC for lunch. I got the fancy vegetables with fried rice. Excellent! Grandma got the green pepper steak. Excellent! Will definitely be back!

First time here. Seen the Daily Special of Tung Cho with Double Happiness advertised, decided to get it. Awesome stuff. The Tung Cho is a sauce that has a bit of Soy taste with a little kick. I have had Tung Cho before but this had a little different taste.
Live band was a lady playing a Chinese «guitar» (I have no idea what it is called), it was really cool. Usually you hear Chinese music through piped in music but this was live and as far as I could tell, she was dang good. Awesome touch to the ambience.

I love this place. Fried rice never fails me. Love it, love it, love it. Even though the environment is a bit… Cold the food is still delicious. I usually just order and pick up. That way I can enjoy the food in the environment of my home.

Trey Yuen really is a unique and amazing Chinese restaurant. It is run by a bunch of first generation Chinese brothers who grew up in the food business. They started in a hole in the wall and grew into multiple amazing locations stocked full of authentic Chinese architectural elements and furniture. Eating there is more an experience.
As fort he food, one of the only things better than stuffing my face full of greasy Chinese food is stuffing it full of quality Chinese food. That said, everything I have had there is exceptional, but make sure to try the alligator stir fry as it really is something special being a blend of Louisiana and Chinese cuisine. You cannot go wrong with the Lo Mein or anything with the Tong Cho sauce. Even their fried rice seems better than the normal stuff.
So if you are looking to just have some great take out Chinese or a more complete sophisticated dining experience accented by restaurants built with imported carvings, masonry and amazing antiques, Trey Yuen is the place.

I’ve only been to this location a handful of times but it is very similar to its sister location in Mandeville. They usually have good Chinese food with some consistency issues and are located in a classic Chinese architectural building that lends good ambiance to your meal. As you walk up to the restaurant you discover it is surrounded by gardens, waterfalls, pogodas and koi ponds. When you enter inside you are treated to features like rosewood ceilings, carved wall panels, antique furnishings, statues, and artwork as well as inlaid mother of pearl dining chairs. There are some items they really do better than the majority of the area Chinese restaurants and they focus on local ingredients that meld into a unique Chinese fusion. They have their signature tong cho sauce that is very tasty and their duck sauce is much better than average here. Trey Yuen is probably your best choice for Chinese in Hammond.

The place was awful from the décor to the waitstaff to the food! One of the only reasons we came was that it was one of the few places open late in Hammond. It also had a very palatial look to it which added to the intrigue. Entering to an empty restaurant should have been the first indication this might not be a good experience.
The place was huge! Two separate dining areas and completely empty. I could hear the click of my heels resounding.
The waitstaff was completely inexperienced; they had to come back several times to check what our order was. Food took long to get to the table. We ordered the drunk duck and tofu vegetables in a soybean black sauce. The sauce was a hot mess. Thick, salty, and just clinging to the tofu. What healthy ideas I had about the entrée was long gone. My boyfriend’s duck was literally a rubbery stringy mess. Not only was it cold but it tasted like salted pork that’s been thawed frozen then rethawed and fried.
We ended up plastering a smile to our faces, eating what little we can keep down and grabbing a sandwich from the local market before heading home.

Trey Yuen has been a local institution for over 30 years. They built their reputation on upscale Chinese food using local ingredients prepared to order. Although the quality of the food varies from visit to visit, I still love their food. Their «tong cho» sauce is a sweet and spicy sauce that makes almost anything taste good. They used to see jars of it — not sure if they still do. It is especially good on any one of their fried options — shrimp, pork, crawfish, catfish, chicken, etc. Their dinner menu is served family style with entrees between the $ 10 and $ 15 range. They also have a reasonable lunch menu that creates combo plates with fried rice. One particular event that used to cause a rush is the serving of the lunch menu on Monday nights. It may still be popular — I just haven’t been in a few years. Monday nights was synonymous with Trey Yuen — at least with me and my friends. They know also serve the lunch menu on Thursday nights — at least the last time I was there. Anyway, the food is good — sometimes great and the prices reasonable.

The food is excellent. The service is great and friendly. I have been pleased with every meal I’ve had here.

I used to come here sometimes with my family whenever I still lived in MS. Décor is old Chinese. I feel like I’m in a old Chinese movie cause of the way the building looks & the little pavillion that’s outside. Also, I loved looking at the pond that surrounds the restaurant that is filled with pretty Koi fishes. So pretty. It’s a serene place outside. The food was pretty good, and I liked the Pina Coladas here from what I remember. Oh and also, they serve alligator.
