Went there a few weeks ago with friends. After sitting at the bar for awhile the bartender Danielle finally took our order. With an attitude! She obviously didn’t want to be there… so sorry for the inconvenience! We ordered food and it was ok. Out of all 6 of us not one had something nice to say. We would go back if the shit bartender Danielle wasn’t behind the bar.

Stay away. Poor service, portion size sad, cost $$$ for such small portions. We got to the restaurant before happy hour was over but waited so long for service they told us that happy hour was over and would not honor this service. They were big on saying, «sorry» but that doesn’t cut it with me.

Place is exactly as the name claims a bar. Don’t go to close to happy hour as you’ll have trouble finding a parking space. But as the bar crowd thins out around 7:30 it’s a better time to get in. Some of the tables are too close to each other. The specials on particular nights make this a go to place as the food is quite good for a bar. Have been there on several occasions where they’ve run out of their advertised specials i.e. Burgers and ciabatta rolls to serve then on.

Tried the Backbar Grille because of Tully’s excellence. Yuk. Water all around, but my Sprite never arrived. Slow and, at times, invisible service. Server never came to check on us after the runner brought our dinners. Dad enjoyed his chicken sandwich, but his fries, ordered well done, came out soggy. They were obviously ready before the sandwich. Mom’s fish tacos, supposedly flounder, contained a few bits of salty, fishy unidentifiable fish. My wife’s crabmeat stuffed flounder was very fishy. It just wasn’t fresh. My fish and chips were clearly frozen, battered fish pieces, not the freshly prepared fresh flounder that the server purported them to be, served over cool, soggy fries. Lastly, not to put too fine a point on it, I spent half the night in the bathroom. But at least the service was poor. Stay away.

Heard about this place for while now. We dined Monday eve with a party of 3. Wait staff and service was attentive and pleasant. NE clam chowder was well received, cup more than enough — bowl was huge. Calamari with teriyaki sauce was good not great… Lobster was enjoyed and got a thumbs up, basic steamed not stuffed like Oaklands. Stuffed flounder portion was huge and also got a thumbs up. I had shrimp and scallops in a cream sauce, steamed veggies and french fries. Scallops were toped with a crust of sea salt or some other rub that nearly turned my stomach. Veggies not worth the effort to stick a fork in and french fries could have been a bit more crispy. Heard the hamburger special is a good deal and tasty. but i will not be back. if i can make better food at home i won’t go back to a restaurant. Back bar bye bye…

Wow so when you come here you need to get the raw oysters from the peconic bay. It’s so so good! Not a single fishy taste when you get these. I get raw oysters everywhere and these were the best. Plus you get a dozen for $ 18. That’s a steal! I also had the blueberry mojito. I really wanted the caipirinha but they didn’t have one of the ingredients I guess. It’s the only place here that I know of that actually has that in the menu. I def recommend this place. Low key, good food, and inexpensive. All great things!

The good news… the live band playing outdoors that Sunday night was great. The bad news is that the very overpriced meal was not worth the 40-minute wait(I had 5 small scallops topped with a teaspoon of crabmeat on each, accompanied by unseasoned white rice and steamed vegetables for $ 28) when the restaurant was not busy. Our waitress even missed our soup order, which we cancelled since the main meal had already arrived. We received the most attention from her when she brought our tab and chose that moment to be very chatty. Needless to say it did not help her tip.

I recently visited Back Bar with my parents this past Friday. It’s one of those rare Friday’s I was off from my restaurant job, so I was looking to just relax and indulge in some delicious food and drinks. However, this is not what I received when I dined here. The hostess was very sweet and greeted us well with a smile. As soon as we sat down it began going down hill. It took the waitress about 10 minutes to come over and greet our table. My mom ordered a back bar Cosmo, I ordered a pomegranate margarita(my favorite) and my dad, a beer. When the drinks came out, my moms didn’t look anything like a Cosmo and my margarita was basically tequila on the rocks with some food coloring. I also asked for no salt and I was given a salted rim. It then took another 15 minutes before we could get a hold of the waitress to order a different drink. I enjoyed whatever my mom had gotten so I in turn ordered the same. She came back saying«a different bar tender made these». The glass was completely different from the first round of drinks my mom had ordered and tasted completely different. The waitress had actually brought my mom a rum punch the first time instead of a Cosmo, and then brought us two real cosmos the second time that were heavily poured and not made correctly. Again, a third time, we ordered more drinks that finally came out as ordered. But unfortunately, the rum punch did not taste the same as the first one, as their pours are obviously inconsistent. Our appetizers took 30 minutes to come out. The queso was pretty good, but the wings were cold. Again, no sign of our server. When our entrees arrived, my chicken tacos were cold, the tortilla fell apart as soon as I picked it up, and the chicken didn’t taste right at all. So naturally I picked at it until she came back to ask if we would like any dessert. My first choice was the apple pie, which they were out of. In turn, I ordered the cheesecake which was dry and completely un-flavorful. That night, I woke up to projectile vomiting and a horrible stomach ache. Food poisoning. Just my luck. I don’t suggest eating here unless your stomach is stronger than a case of bricks. Usually, as I do work in a restaurant, I wouldnt complain as much as this. Food poisoning, however, was the last straw for me.

Stopped by for an early May lunch. Restaurant is bright with big views. The outdoor deck is roomy and the bar area looks like it would be fun to hang out at. Sooo the water glasses at the table seemed used and we requested fresh glasses from the barback. Wine pour very generous. Ordered the fried seafood shrimp, clam and fish baskets, which came with tartar sauce but no coleslaw or even a pickle? huh? The beer-battered shrimp straight out of the bag, clam STRIPS, not whole-belly clams, and a piece of frozen fish, fried — flounder maybe? Soggy fries. Seriously — if you want a seafood basket you can do better at Tully’s. Oh, just to mention the service. We sat and waited a good 10 minutes while the one visible server was chatting it up with some UP-Island types. She finally took our drink order, disappeared for another 10 minutes while chatting up same couple. We placed our order, a runner delivered the food. Server never came to check if everything was OK. Still engaged with obviously important diners. OBVIOUSLY we weren’t the patrons who took those fancy food pics. LOL

This is our first visit here at the Backbar Grill. We have been meaning to try this place but sorry to say, we list 2 years. Well we finally made it. What a wonderful place to enjoy delicious food. Since we were new here, we left up the offering to the recommendations from our lovely waitress Helene. Beeline is so personable and excited to tell it’s about the food. We ordered the baked Brie as an appetizer, coconut shrimp and lobster mac and cheese that was truly outstanding! Helene hit all the food right on the mark. Delicious delicious delicious!!! Last visit this past weekend did not go so well. Mussels, although delicious were loaded with sand. They did take it off the bill. Timing of dishes was off as well. I took back a star… for now. Lobster mac and cheese is still awesome!

Routing for you here, food and space is great but your staff is terrible! I even want to route for them but they are kids with no experience and obviously no training! Train them up and they will be fine. This is on the owner. I really want to be a regular here so please make them better!

Another good addition to the restaurant business in HB. I’ve been there a few times now and haven’t yet been disappointed. Service is good, the bar is always packed and the addition they made with the deck was a great idea. Their burger night is a hard deal to beat, the place is packed on Tuesdays even in the off season which is great to see. Only criticism is that the sangria was a little pricy when it was mostly full of ice, and the tacos were great except the tortilla fell apart after I picked it up(I think because they weren’t warmed up before and the tacos are stuffed to the fullest which isn’t bad bad thing!). if you are a lobster fan you must try the lobster egg roll, so tasty and beautiful presentation. Overall good food and good service and will be sure to be visiting again soon.

Typical Hampton Bays bar: a bunch of locals sitting around watching the 8 TVs in the bar. When I want fresh fish I go to Tully’s. A lobster roll, fried clams, beer. Very very simple items that a chef can’t get any wild ideas. It started to rain and was asked if I would like to go to the bar. The Backbar! I wanted to drink a few beers, it might as well be with TVs all over the place. (why is this such a Long Island thing??) So we order beers, some clam chowders and a order of calamari. Maybe the chef was feeling fan-say, maybe the chef was feeling summer in the air but why drown fried calamari in a raspberry sauce? Yuckk. put it in a cup on the side at least. If your looking for a bar to chill after a day on the beach, find Barback. Ask for no raspberry sauce if you order calamari

Great place to grab drinks and lunch to watch sports game. Came here to catch the world cup games for lunch. Had the grilled artichoke and grilled fish tacos. They were both delicious. I would come back. Great outdoor seating too.

At last… Fish and chips worthy of the name. Good crispy fish… not over cooked. .a good large portion… and a crispy batter! The bar staff are wonderfully pleasant and efficient. Luckily I’m a local and thus can visit out of season… and a welcome treat it will be too. Good food, good prices, nice people… good live music((not deafeningly loud !) A welcome treat.
