Harrison & Lear is the management company for our house in Hampton, VA(we currently live in Boston). It’s a single family that they get to keep 10% of the rent collected. I have come to believe over the past year that they are utterly incompetent.(I’ll try to contain my frustration and give you the reasons…) 1. It took them 5 months to rent the place. And we had to make most of the suggestions about how to accomplish it(incentives, rent reduction, etc) 2. I’ve still never seen the lease, although I’ve asked repeatedly. 3. We get invoices that have random charges deducted and no reason why. I’ve asked. Still waiting on receipts. 4. We requested 3 quotes to replace our heat pump. 4 weeks passed and nothing appeared. Then the unit crapped out. So we had to put our tenants up in a hotel and only got shady email quotes via the management company — no actual quotes were provided to us directly from the contractors. 5. It’s now March and I haven’t received tax paperwork from last year. 6. The tenants never paid the complete first month rent amount. H&L wouldn’t have notified me if I hadn’t called to ask why the amount didn’t match the lease agreement. 7. We wanted to pursue rent-to-own with our tenants. Despite much talk that it would be brought up, I don’t believe it ever was. To sum up, the communication and professionalism you would hope for just isn’t here. All I asked was to be kept informed about what’s happening, and that seems impossible.
