My husband and I each did the 1 hour tour over the crater and we can’t stop raving about the entire experience. From the start, Hans was phenomenal — he answered emails and questions right away and made sure I knew we couldn’t fly at the same time (the plane only seats 2 people). During the trip, he was the perfect tour guide — just talkative enough to make the trip entertaining. The flight itself was smooth and full of breathtaking views along the coastline and right over the crater. And you can take all the pictures you want. I highly, highly recommend the 1 hour tour — the half hour tour would just be too short and believe me, you’ll want to be up there longer! Thank you Hans for such an amazing experience!

My better-​half and I each did the 1 hour flight over the crater, and the flights were well worth the price!
Hans is, as other reviews have mentioned, very professional and just a very likeable guy. There is so much of the Hana area to see from the air, and Hans makes a very knowledgeable tour guide. If you want, he’ll even let you pilot the glider a bit once you’re safely in the air!
Don’t miss out on this great experience. A must-​do while in the Hana area, and the absolute best way to see the crater.

The boy and I spent a week in Maui back October — before we went, he planned out a few different things to do and I’ll admit, when he told me we were going gliding, I really wasn’t sure what to think — part of me wanted to respond with ‘ha! Do you really think you’re going to get me up In a glider?!’ But instead I went the stoic route and said, ‘that sounds cool, I can’t wait!’…
We drove from west Maui and took the gorgeous road to Hana… I am sad to admit that I had to sleep through 90% of the drive (this is the only way I have been able to avoid getting sick on winding roads) but that last 5% was breathtaking! ;)
Hans was wonderful — funny, professional, and just a likable person! The boy took the longer flight over the crater and I took the shorter flight. Both of us had an incredible experience — so glad that we found this! There was something so amazingly beautiful and peaceful about just floating through the sky with the clouds… loved it. :)

We are on our honeymoon in Maui, and I’d seen this on another review site, so decided to gift my husband a flight over the Haleakala Crater. Hans was knowledgeable about Hana and the area in general and my husband loved the 1 hour flight so much he insisted that I take one after he landed. Hans obviously knows what he’s doing, and I felt extremely safe with him.
I’d never experienced gliding before and was blown away at how agile a glider is in the air. Hans made the trip fun and just as exciting as I chose. I was amazed at the views of East Maui, from Hana all the way to the back side of the volcano. Saw lots of waterfalls too. The diversity of this island is fairly obvious from the road, but from the air I realized that I had no idea just how diverse it really is. Powered aircraft aren’t allowed over the crater so this is the only way to see that moonscape like place from the air.
I can’t recommend this enough. Definitely one of the best parts of our honeymoon on Maui.

It has taken me a while to get around to giving a review. While on a vacation to Maui I happened upon the airport, and being a pilot I could not resist.
We went up for about an hour. Bill, the owner, took off and then handed the controls over to me. I climbed to altitude and followed the instructions for the engine shutoff.
We flew along the coast over Lindbergh’s grave in total silence. There were some clouds and moisture in the air… combined with the late day’s sun the light refracted through the cockpit causing rainbows that could be seen on the ground.
I had never flown a glider before and it was an experience that changed the way I look at flying.
If you are ever near Hana (and I hope I will be again), or have ever thought about getting your pilots liscense, you owe it yourself to take a ride with Bill.

WOW! I was afraid of heights and thought I would NEVER do anything like this for fun! Bill was encouraging from the start and NEVER offered any sales pressure. He let me make my own decision to fly with him. He kept me calm from beginning to end. I did not want the flight to end. Now I am no longer afraid of heights as I once was! Unforgettable, memorable, and the BEST experience ever! The views are priceless, and my camera was going nonstop! Thank you, Bill!

Enjoy amazing views from as you float through the air in a silky-​smooth glider! Hans was extremely professional and safe. ½ hour coastline trips were $ 150 kama’aina/$ 175 if not and 1 hour Haleakala Summit trips were $ 250 kama’aina/$ 275 if not. Go to Haleakala. More bang for your buck and more glide time. Awesome experience!
