If you have been, you know that the north shore of Kauai is just about the most beautiful place on earth. Hanalei is a quaint little town with none of the tourist trappings of the mega resorts on the south side of the island, and some of the most amazing beaches in the whole state of Hawaii. There is a reason after all that Hawaii locals travel from Maui and Oahu to vacation in Hanalei Bay. The only problem is finding a place to stay. Well, I should say that was a problem before I found Jane Abramo and Na Pali Properties.
Na Pali has a great selection of vacation homes for rent in Princeville, Hanalei, and Ha’ena. I recently stayed at the charming Lokelani house just a short walk from the bay in Hanalei. The backyard garden alone was enough to take my breath away. The house could easily sleep 6 and came fully equipped for beach fun with boogie boards, towels, beach chairs, coolers, and an umbrella. Although Hanalei has some great restaurants, we elected to stay in and cook a few nights. The kitchen was a great work space with modern appliances and it was stocked with all the tools needed to whip up a tropical feast. The house is also located a short walk from one an authentic Hanalei tiki bar, the Tahiti Nui, which we visited many a night.
We couldn’t have been happier with the service from Na Pali Properties. Jane was a delight to deal with. She checked in to make sure everything was ok, and followed up to see if we needed anything during our visit. She even had someone come by and take our trash even though it was a holiday weekend and we missed the pick up (my bad completely.) And it was very easy to stay in touch as the Na Pali office is located right in the Ching Young Village shopping center in town. We popped in to say hi on our way to the grocery store, and Jane filled us in on a great local farmers market scheduled for the next day. You could tell Jane and Joe live for the north shore, and who could blame them!
If you are looking for an all inclusive Hawaiian resort vacation, the north shore of Kauai may not be for you. Sure you could spend the megabucks at the St. Regis in Princeville, but you’d really be missing out on the charm that exists on this part of the island. The vacation rentals of Na Pali Properties are the perfect way to stay in these quiet communities. They exude the lifestyle of Hanalei, and are the perfect home base for all the adventures in the area. We will for sure be returning thanks in part to the ease of accommodations provided by Na Pali Properties.

My family and I recently traveled to Kauai on vacation and booked a house rental through Na Pali Properties. From start to finish our experience was nothing but top rate. The owner, Jane provided us with a list of properties that fit our needs and helped us in evaluating the options. This was the first time that we were traveling with our nine month old daughter so we were fairly particular about the details. She not only found a wonderful home rental for us, she also took the time to provide us with contacts for baby equipment rentals as well as logistical information on where to shop and what to do with an infant. The icing on the cake was at our departure when we arrived at the airport and I thought I left my wallet at the house. Jane was kind enough to run back to the rental on a Sunday and check for me. This is a true family business that cares about the experiences their guests have on the island. If anyone is traveling to Kauai and looking to stay on the beautiful North Shore, I highly recommend booking with Na Pali!

What the photos do not show is that the rental house has a HUGE, private backyard overlooking a gorgeous view. It is also located across the street from a great beach and a convenient walk (10 mins) or quick drive (2 mins) to the town.
We ran into a hiccup with the weather and Jane personally helped accommodate us through the issue. She also gave us some great recommendations on beaches and things to do during our stay.
We can’t wait to return to this beautiful property, in what I considered one of the best towns in all of Hawaii.

Clooney spends some serious time in the sand on the Hanalei Bay. Where did I stay for the week?
. I believe this company partners with Na Pali Properties which should explain the link provided, but my transaction was done through a woman named Jane at Na Pali. She offered red carpet service and attitude from the moment of arrival. She knows the island better than most and I would use her as a trusted resource if you are planning your vacation.
What was my favorite part? There were several — the outdoor shower is insane and one of the most refreshing experiences you can seek when staying in Hawaii. After 6 hours of dominating the waves on my long board — a refreshing outdoor shower was crucial.
This vacation was a little work and play so the reliable wifi was a hit with me too. I do not encourage work in Kauai, but the trusted access was appreciated.
Lastly, there is something to be said for a super clean — wide open kitchen that is good for entertainment and dining. I prefer to eat out while on vacation, but eating breakfast and lunch at the house while I played all day in the surf was super easy and appreciated.
We even ventured over to the St. Regis for drinks one night, and I could not wait to get back to my home away from home at the Sunset Hale. I will be back. Thanks Jane!

I recently rented a house from Na Pali Properties when I was on Kauai for a wedding. Not knowing the island at all, I was a bit unsure of what towns or neighborhoods to look in. Jane was incredibly helpful — she took the time to ask questions about our group and what we were looking for, and made recommendations for what properties we might enjoy. Once we picked a place, the whole rental process was totally seamless, and couldn’t have been easier!
We ended up going with Hanelei Bay Villas #17 in Princeville. The place itself was gorgeous — the pictures did not do justice to the amazing view from our patio. We spend many mornings sipping coffee and enjoying a good book while overlooking the bay. The house was really well appointed, and came set up with all the essentials we could want or need (i.e. cooking utensils, laundry detergent, beach towels, etc.) and even some really helpful non-​essentials (snorkeling gear and boogie boards!).
We’re already planning our next trip back to Kauai, and hope to rent the same house again for our next trip.

We rented a cozy little plantation cottage from Na’Pali Properties in Hanalei Bay. The house was even better then in the pictures and we had such a great stay. Na’Pali is a small family run buisness and Jane was there to help us with everything we needed. We had some other friends staying the same week as us who also rented from Na’Pali properties and their places were great as well. I can’t recommend highly enough, we will definitely be coming back.

Full Disclosure: I own a house that Napali Properties manages. I have found that they have been very professional in helping maintain my property. I’m writing this because I had been renting my house with another company for over a decade and have found that Napali Properties has been extremely helpful and conscientious in taking care of my house that i don’t get to visit enough but feel confident that ‘it is in good hands’. Over the years, i’ve noticed that what Mark Twain said (paraphrase) is true: ‘Most people are just about as happy as they want to be’. There must be a little truth in some of the negative responses i have read — there are always 3 sides to any story, but i can say that from my experience with Napali Properties, i have only experienced what Carol K. wrote: «Jane and her staff at Na Pali Properties are professional, knowledgeable, honest and efficient. they are sharp, they know what they are doing and they obviously enjoy helping people find great places to rent or buy.»

Don’t rent from these people. They are dishonest.
I actually had a great experience with my rental, right up until the end, when they tried to scam me out of my $ 400 security deposit. They said I had caused damage and that the unit required «extensive cleaning». To back this up, they sent photos– of crumbs on the floor, a baby carrot my son left under a cushion, sand in the shower. essentially what you would expect after renting a beachside condo for a week.
This was on top of the $ 225 cleaning fee I already paid, and after my wife and I cleaned the unit thoroughly.
A terrible end to an otherwise nice trip. Stay away from this company.

We made a reservation for one of na pali’s properties, then had to cancel. The booking and cancellation process were seamless and Barbara was courteous and professional.

Jane and her staff at Na Pali Properties are professional, knowledgeable, honest and efficient. they are sharp, they know what they are doing and they obviously enjoy helping people find great places to rent or buy.
we have worked with them for more than 20 years, and along the way we have purchased three properties and currently rent two homes with their help. if there is a problem, they are quick to respond and to do their best to resolve the situation to everyone’s satisfaction. Jane’s quick, often self-​deprecating sense of humor is always a welcome addition to any interaction.
we love these guys. they are sensitive and direct and you always know right where you stand. it’s a pleasure working with them.

We arrived at our condo and were surprised that there was unexpected construction and a lot of noise. We immediately called the company and they offered to move us to a different property, which they did right away. They immediately gave us a full refund for the week’s stay, but offered a free night and found an even better unit for us to stay in. They were super nice throughout the booking and moving process. Even though the first unit didn’t work out, they did everything they could to make the process painless and they treated us very well. Thank you, Jane, for being so responsive and friendly. Nowhere else would we have received such good service.

Dont ever work with Na Palo Prop. I was surprised by their in-​hospitality, which is very counter to the island culture. They are dishonest and change rates in midst of reservations. Not only that, they have other property management companies working for them and dont communicate with each other. They quoted different rates for a rental called Riko Hale from 950/​week to 1050/​week even though their website said 950/​week for 4 people. Then they tried to blame me for price negotiating and then lied that the property was booked. We know its a lie because its still available for the dates we wanted to rent. For travelers who are looking for a trusting host, these guys are opposite. They are rude and don’t honor words or website prices. If you want to have a peaceful stay in Kauai, stay away from them and go with other property owners who are very nice and sincere. We found a much better place to rent from and are much happier now. Sorry for a long note, but I have to warn other travelers about this.

Jane, the owner, is a jewel! She recently helped my husband and I try to find a property that is perfect for our situation. Jane knows the island very well, which is essential when you’re looking for just the right place. She demonstrated great patience as we toured this one property in particular, never pressuring us. I feel that Jane is someone I can trust, and keeps our best interest in mind. Thank you Jane!

There should be a Negative 98 star rating. Na Pali Properties should be shut down and the owners and operators should not just go to jail but be forced to pay back all the innocent renters they fleeced and then clean and scrub and bring up to modern day standards all the properties they have neglected in a criminal fashion.
They are lazy, ego-​maniacal thieves and crooks.
Our «luxury» Kauai rental should be shut down by the health department.
The owners are lazy, pompous, condescending sloths who should lose their licenses and be thrown in jail – or better yet, be forced to clean and maintain the properties they’ve sucked money out of while neglecting them and letting them turn into mold infested, inhabitable over priced island properties.
The husband and wife team are liars, immature and rude. He HUNG UP ON ME TODAY! She makes lame excuses for underlings who should be working in her name… including why they STOLE MY PERSONAL PROPERTY OUT OF OUR COTTAGE!
Never ever NEVER EVER NEVER EVER rent ANYTHING from Na Pali Properties EVER!

We have just checked in to a property on Kauai rented by Na Pali Properties and advertised as a «refurbished» «luxury» oceanfront home called Hale Kalani. When we arrived we noticed the old, worn furniture. nothing new or refurbished here. The sofas and old, flat pillows had been sprayed down with a strong perfume to mask odors. Na Pali’s answer? «Some people just love that.» We were asked to find spare linens in the home and change them ourselves. I can only say I wish I’d never seen the stains under one of those pillow cases. We opened all the doors and windows and went out on the patio to catch some fresh air and I found myself locked out of the house… the screen door whether locked or unlocked will not open from the outside… the only smoke detector has been removed from the wall and is nowhere to be found in the house… three out of four lights in the smaller bedroom including the bedside lamps either don’t work or don’t have lightbulbs in them… forget about reading before bed… the next morning cooking breakfast was spooky. the silver is worn and dirty… several spoons have seen the inside of the garbage disposal and have not been removed from the tray… every piece of silver and every knife I grab from the tray has small bits of food or rust… the toaster is broken. the kitchen wall is splattered with food and the baseboards are filthy. the floors are sticky and our ocean view is marred by filthy windows. some windowns are covered with blinds that have a thick coat of grease and dust on them… the glass blind in the bathroom is broken and will only close manually… Na Pali’s answer?.. the last occupants «really trashed the place».
I was alarmed to find notes from the owners warning us not to take patio furniture out to the oceanfront lawn because «it will be stolen». There was also a note posted warning us that «burglaries by teenagers have occurred». Scary!
On day 2, after hearing our complaints, the screen door was fixed, the windows washed, the kitchen was cleaner (but still yucky), the toaster was replaced and my son asked if he could sleep outside in the car. The smoke detector is still missing.
It is apparent that the property managers have not been out to check on the condition of the property and that their advertising/​website has not been updated to convey the state of the property and age of the furnishings. This rental experience is A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.
I would not recommend staying at Hale Kalani or renting from this agency.

I recently used this realty agency for a 2 week vacation home rental for the second time. It appears that the first time, «we just lucked out» because the home we rented had been newly renovated. We were very excited to have the experience again and paid 2,600/week for a wonderful looking rental next to the beach. The price of this property was in line given location and size relative to the others listed on their website. NOT.
We arrived at a house which was much older than appeared in the pictures on the website (scary flashback to online dating experience right now). It was a 2 bedroom with an additional master suite loft; we quickly discovered that one of the bedrooms was filled with mold as one of our party cannot tolerate it and couldn’t go into that room. The floor in that room was not redone like the rest of the house; it was faded linoleum with what looked like cigarette burns all over it. Upon moving one of the beds to another room so that it could be used, there was a hole about the size of a golf ball that led directly under the house. Now in Kauia in this kind of house that actually means it leads outside, as there is no built basement AT ALL.
Within three days, one of the burners on the electric (eek) stove had burnt out, the ballasts on the fluorescent lights in the bathroom and kitchen were fried (they’re old, just fiddle with it a bit to turn it on said the realty — ??! huh? I don’t want to do that on vacation) and the dryer blew out. The worse is in this tropical paradise, we discovered many of the screens in the door and skylights had holes in them, so mosquitoes were streaming in day and night.
The house had no broadband and promised a BBQ, which turned out to be an old portable hibachi that had rusted out, under the house. We had to call the realty to bring us another one.
When asked why they would rent a house in such disrepair for this amount of money, they said, they do not really manage this house, they merely handle the bookings. What I ask is the point in renting a house all the way from New York City with an agency which can’t quality control the condition of a property???
