Some call it a sickness, some an obsession and yes, they may be right. I call it my passion. A passion for taking others unwanted junk or well-loved pieces and giving them a second chance and a new home. My work includes yard sale finds, auction bargains and yes, side of the road treasures (my favorites, of course).This is the idea behind The Attic Fanatic.
History

Kristine Thayer of Hanson has an unwavering appreciation for the old. Finding unwanted antiques, researching the history behind each piece and lovingly sanding, staining, painting and revitalizing them is what makes her tick, she said.
«I love the hunt and it is sort of a sport for me,» said Thayer, 33, a full-time educational consultant for a local university. «Spotting that one piece that speaks to me drives me, and when I do find it, it is like Christmas.»
Thayer’s hobby turned into a business venture with the opening of The Attic Fanatic, a 400 – square– foot furniture gallery in the first-floor parlor of an 1890 farmhouse at 237 Broadway in Hanover.
«I fell in love with the house because I appreciate the old and thought this would be the perfect place to start my business,» said Thayer, who shares the space with New England Interiors.

I’m a mom and wife with a full time corporate career. Managing stress is just part of my daily routine. Finding and repurposing furniture is my creative outlet that allows me to calm my racing mind while creating some distinctive pieces.
I’ve always had an affinity for old things. This likely stems from my parents, who as a young dating couple would buy and sell antiques at local flea markets. This was something they did together which then lead to my father opening up a coin shop in East Bridgewater, MA where my parents were raised and where I grew up.
