We offer design services at many different scales and collaborate with partners to provide appropriate solutions for client’s needs. The design process is complex and cannot be summed up in a few short paragraphs, each project is different and we approach all projects as an individual challenge.

History

Established in 2001.

Stahnke + Kitagawa Architects was opened in 2001 when Bruce Stahnke and Erlynne Kitagawa relocated to Maine after 18 years of working at architectural offices in Boston. This move enabled an emphasis on sustainable design a wider range of design and production.

Business Owner

Bruce Stahnke graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a masters in architecture in 1982. He worked for one year in Chicago and 18 years in Boston where he was a principal at Finegold Alexander + Associates before establishing Stahnke + Kitagawa Architects in Maine in 2001. Since the beginning the firm has worked on many different building types and scales for a variety of clients both public, non-​profit, and private. Mr. Stahnke had designed: LEED projects, zero net energy, Living Building, Passive House, off the grid, and energy efficient projects.
