Amazing food from a truck. The Chinese food from Peony is better than any Chinese restaurant in Hartford, by far. I will go miles out of my way to stop by for General Tso’s. I wish they had a full restaurant!

Mehhhh… Nothing great about this food truck. I found the food to be a little under seasoned, ordered the sweet and spicy chicken with fried rice. The chicken was dry. My coworker ordered the chicken with garlic sauce and loved it. I’m hoping the next dish I try is better, good sized portions,.

A shining state in our gloomy state capital. Top notch asian food from a food truck. Located most weekdays in Bushnell Park. The menu is limited compared to a brick and morter establishment, but they make up for it in taste and quality. You can call ahead if you have a large order for the office and your coworkers.

There are lots of food trucks in summer outside Bushnell park downtown Hartford. Today I have decided to take pick. I was in the mood of eating hot food so I decided to go for chicken teriyaki. They have multiple options available in teriyaki e. g beef. Chicken. Both, vegetables etc. I ordered chicken teriyaki extra spicy. It was delicious and exactly as I expected. Staff is friendly. I enjoyed the food under cool shade of Bushnell park trees. Will go again.

I decided to brave this overcast, windy fall day to try out Peony’s. It was worth standing out there with no jacket. Yes, it is a food truck so choices are limited, but the variety of Chinese food choices is pretty good for a food truck(another reviewer uploaded a picture of the menu if you are curious). Since I love sweet and sour dishes, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with fried rice(white rice is also an option), and decided to also order an egg roll on the side. The portion of food is well worth the price. I ended up only eating half for lunch(booo half hour lunch breaks) and scarfed down the rest for dinner. While I was waiting, I noticed that many people have called their orders ahead as the lady was taking orders by phone and called out to people when the orders were ready. Major props to her for knowing which orders go to which person, even phone orders! I could never have my memory committed to that. My food was still very hot and fresh after making my way back through the windy air back to the building and my desk to eat. The egg roll was nice and crispy, and the breaded chicken was drenched in the delicious sweet and sour sauce. While I like my chicken to stay crispy until I am ready to dunk it in the sauce, this way was more convenient and made more sense if I had wanted to enjoy my lunch in Bushnell Park(but it was windy that day… oh well). I enjoyed my lunch, and it was so much food that I saved half for dinner. It was still very delicious after being reheated in the microwave. I think I found my new favorite place to get lunch when I am in the Capitol area.

Peony was the final food truck in the lineup at the Bushnell Park Food Truck Court and the last I ate at in a single three hour time frame. There was just no way to eat a while plate so I went with some egg rolls. They came out hot and fresh obviously deep fried to order. Came with Chinese hot mustard and made for a perfect snack, completely different than the Vietnamese style egg rolls from M&M Fresh Fruit Salad Truck. This was the only Asian food truck at Bushnell park and by the crowd appears to be one of the most popular. Friendly ladies inside.

Quite a bit of food for a very modest price, and it is damn good. As good if not better than I expect from permanently located Chinese places. I hadn’t been to this truck in quite some time, but found myself in Hartford yesterday around 11:00 and thought, «Early lunch, why not!» Peony was the only truck besides Lucky Taco that I recognized from previous experience, and I remembered it being good, but I didn’t remember the prices being so low! I really wish they’d park next to where I work, though I’d probably end up a a little thicker around the mid-region. So after getting over my initial shock that I had never reviewed Peony(*tsk tsk*), and after eating every single grain of rice in my Kung Bao Chicken with fried rice(steamed rice instead is also an option) and just the right spicy kick, I wrote myself a note to remedy that. And here we are… Give them a shot — it’ll be one of the cheapest meals you’ll have in a while, and hopefully your experience will be like mine. Happy Eating.

If you can get over your food truck aversion, what you will find is a pretty good Chinese food truck. Got the Chicken with Garlic Sauce and it had fresh vegetable and a surprisingly spicy sauce that wasn’t too heavy or greasy. And for $ 5, it is quite the bargain. Is it the best Chinese food? Not, but its a heck of a lot better than some of the restaurants around. If you’re in Bushnell park, this isn’t a bad choice.

L8 Kung Bo Chicken is pure magic… That is Kung Bo not Kung Pao. Kung Bo has sliced chicken breast and peanuts.
