History
Established in 1984.
In the Crouse family since 1837, a large piece of lakefront property was established by J. Robert Crouse in 1924 as a business retreat visited by such notables as Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and Henry Firestone. The stately 10,000-square-foot Cromaine Lodge sits right on the shores of our 140-acre spring-fed lake and surrounded by over 1,000 acres of property. Waldenwoods is a true tribute to Henry David Thoreau’s classic novel, Walden. In 1984, his grandson, W. Frank Crouse, launched a major reinvestment on behalf of the family to create a five star resort. Today, Waldenwoods is still owned and operated by the Crouse family, and continues to hold true to the values and business principles set forth by J. Robert Crouse almost 100 years ago.
«Days and nights alike at Waldenwoods speak the mystic language of nature in her loveliest mood. We hope you may find here all the joy and happiness that we have found.» J. Robert Crouse, Founder of Waldenwoods
