My husband took his chef set here today and was so pleased with everything. They look new, are super sharp, and the people that run it were truly wonderful to work with. It’s only $ 2.50 a knife. Highly recommended. It’s cash only and they only open til 4 and closed on weekends.

Trying to cut vegetables with a dull knife just doesn’t work. I realized I had to get all my chef’s knives sharpened, but where to go? Thanks to you, my fellow Unilocalers, I found Maestranzi Sharp Knife Service. I telephoned Maestranzi, and the women who answered the phone gave me clear information. The guys who do the sharpening take breaks at certain times of the day, and they take lunch at a regular time, so don’t come then. This had to be a cash-only transaction; no credit cards. I confirmed the address and set out. The business is located on a side street near the Lawrence/Harlem intersection. I needed to put the address into my GPS, and that enabled me to find the place. When I came in, I handed my four knives over to the lady in the office. She asked if I wanted to wait, or come back. I chose to wait. At that point, I asked what the cost would be. $ 10.00! For four knives! I sat down to read my newspaper. Less than 10 minutes later, I had my sharpened knives. Unbelievable! Apparently this business deals mainly with the restaurant industry, but they sure made it easy for an average consumer like me. And yes, I tried out the knives when I got home. They are sharp! I am one happy customer!

The Christmas rib roast is safe! Thee realization that out home had great, under used(and dull) knives allowed me to find Maestranzi. Service was great, and as a walk in, our three knives were sharpened within minutes. Our conversation with Gina allowed us to find a great used knife that was sharpened and added to our collection. As noted by other reviewers, the product is not on display, but is brought to you at the visitor’s window. Great service, a who’s who Commercial customer list, and cash-only walk in business. You can not go wrong.

Maestranzi’s has been in business for over 100 years. Anyone in business that long must be doing something right and Maestranzi’s is no exception. I enjoy cooking in the kitchen and one of the most important tools anyone can have is a good set of commercial quality kitchen knives. I have about a dozen Maestranzi knives of various shapes and sizes, my favorite being a 10″ chef’s knife, of which I currently have four. Their chef’s knife is the most perfect knife in every way. It is my «go-to» knife in the kitchen which I use 90% of the time. Maestranzi’s is a well known supplier of professional grade knives throughout Chicagoland. Their customer list reads like a who’s who of finer restaurants and larger grocery store chains. Bar none, Maestranzi knives are among the best there are. Perfectly balanced, built to last and RAZOR sharp. When my knives need sharpening, Maestranzi’s is the only place I even consider going. For $ 2.50 a knife, they sharpen and oil each knife while you wait. They also sell new and used knives, but you have to ask to see their merchandise as there are no knives of any kind on display in their office. Used knives start at $ 10 which is a great deal for such a quality knife. Maestranzi’s caters to the restauranteur/commercial customer but they also sell knives to the public on a cash and carry basis as well as offer sharpening service as well. Truly five-star all the way.
