I m giving one star because i need ppl to ser it. Most irresponsible shop in Jersey including his manager Matt, he is a freaking liar who promises fix your car in 2 hours and then at the end of the day tell u it cant be done. All he does is wobbling around doing nothing. Last time i go there

Blatantly lied about what was wrong with my car, tried to get me to buy parts I didn’t actually need and tried to charge me hundreds of dollars. It didn’t feel right so I checked around and proved the lie. The manager has to be in on it. Why would the mechanic just lie if not getting rewarded for suggesting unneeded parts?

Terrible experience. Dropped off my car for tires change and balancing. They kept it 8 hours and when I came to pick it up, informed me that my alignment isn’t done because they had no tools… how can you not let me know when I dropped off my car and first of all how can you not have tools, it’s Pep Boys not Bloomingdales. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !

My right rear caliper was sticking on a Sunday, I pulled over to it smoking. I drove all the way from Kinnelon to this site and by then it had unstuck and stopped smoking. They took the car right in, no problem right? WRONG … He told me I needed rear brakes, rotors and new calipers. He then said they did not have the part and they had to order it… hmmm ok. I asked how much everything would be and the guy told me he didnt know… I was confused at that point because Pep Boys is a AUTO PART STORE as well. They should know the price of their parts by simply looking. He then said he would give me an estimate. $ 828!!! I looked over the estimate and noticed they charged me for 2 calipers when I just needed 1 side. He told me that I had to get both done because it is like the brakes. I am a woman and felt like I was being conned. I told them to remove my car from the lift and I would drive it to my own mechanic. He then stated he cannot let me drive my car because it was dangerous. At that point my car was acting fine at that point so I have no idea why he would state this. He told me I had to get it towed… I argued with him, it was my car I could do what I want. Long story short, I safely made it home to Jersey City with ZERO incident. I purchased the parts at Advanced Auto Parts for 200 $ the next day and my mechanic charged me 125 in labor. $ 325.00 for the $ 828.00 Pep Boys quoted me. AND I only had to do 1 side of calipers like I thought. RIP OFFS and SCAM ARTISTS!

Don’t go for basic oil change or basic service. 2 weeks in a row I’ve arrived and asked about the wait. Each time in advised «30 – 40 minutes». I leave for an hour and when I come back my car was never brought in. Then I had to ask and then they bring car in. Today, they brought in car to shut me up and car just sat there. I asked for car back and just left. I thought last week was just a fluke but the term to use is «sh!t-show». Can’t go back after this. Time I’ll never get back.

I guess I had a different experience than most, but I couldn’t be happier with the service at Pep Boys. I went in to replace my tire & rim after hitting a giant pot hole. Paul took my work order. He was friendly & gave me several different pricing options, which I appreciated. Billy was the mechanic that worked on my car. He was courteous & took the time to explain to me what exactly was wrong with the tire & rim. He even tried to savage my old tire before replacing it! I was in and out in under a half hour. I highly recommend their tire service.

I made an appointment to get my tires replaced. I had planned on doing my brakes myself and then getting the tires and alignment done. I let the guy talk me into letting them do everything all at once. BIG MISTAKE!!!
I dropped the car off at 1PM because … I had an appointment.
I came back at 3PM to find that my car hadn’t moved. Told them to either get the car on the lift or give me my keys.
They brought the car in and started working on it. First the brakes.
2 hours later, I notice that nobody has worked on my car in over a half hour. «What’s going on?» … «Sorry, we don’t have your tires.» WHAT??? The whole reason I brought the car in there and they never ordered the tires.
SO, I paid $ 800 for a brake job that I could have done myself and I didn’t even get the tires that I wanted.
The manager promised to call me when the tires came in. It’s been 2 weeks and I haven’t heard from him.
Also, the brand new rotors are already rusted because they use cheap, uncoated rotors.
Do NOT waste your time and money with these people. You WILL regret it.

Had an appt for 12:00. It is now closing in on 4. my sunday is shot and I see people hanging out and socializing. Only at the dmv have I felt more ignored and insignificant. If you want to feel unimportant come here. The service is terrible, and slow, and I successfully sat here for 3.5 hours without a single word uttered to me. Don’t do this to yourself if you need anything done on your car. Just dont.

I scheduled an oil change and arrived on time. I wasn’t clear at first where to go (the signage inside is a little confusing, but Juan found me and got me going. Car was pulled into the bay within a few minutes of being there. The mechanic did a short inspection of my air filter and in-​cabin filter which I turned down, but he was very nice the way he approached me.
My oil change and tire rotation took about 40 minutes. While I waited I watched another mechanic work through the waiting room window. This guy was impressive and efficient.
Similar to other customers, the employees spoke Spanish in front of me, but to be fair I was approached more than once to ask if I needed help.
They didn’t use protective covers, so I was disappointed to find oil on my driver’s side floor mat.
However, they did honor a coupon I brought in.
I wish the invoice had been a little clearer — I requested «synthetic blend’ oil and this wasn’t indicated on the work order, even though they assured me that «high mileage» oil was the equivalent.
I don’t get the same level of customer interaction and friendliness that I get from my local independent mechanic, but that may be purely because of the volume these guys are dealing with. It appears the work was done competently, but because I wasn’t standing over my mechanic watching, I’m not entirely sure.
The store was clean and organized, though the waiting room was a bit small.

I got some brake specials over online and it was time to get 4 discs and pads replaced on my car. My independent guy was fully booked for a week ahead so long story short I went to Peptards. I saved about 10% on coupons but got some real cheap-​crap quality job on my car. I hear a continuous metal to metal sound when I drive the car. It sounds like a turning train all the time. So thank you for your zero skill performance idiots! I never go to any Pepboys again.
Update:
I already fixed my brakes by my independent guy. By the way you guys are using cheap uncoated rotors, a week later I see it’s already rusty.

Tried this place as recommended by my fleet service contract.
Dropped the car off and waited and waited until someone finally came around and said
I was at the wrong register. I proceed to go to where he wanted me to go and someone else tries to take care of me who did not know how to write a service order. Everyone speaks Spanish in front of you. Don’t they know that is rude and wrong. I specifically told them to check my tires since part of the
service was a tire rotation and what do you
know the tire indicator light comes on. I go to pick up the car after several calls to them after waiting all day without any updates on why it took 8 hours to fix, and again everyone is waiting around and the help is no where to be found. They finally come around not knowing what to do and after 30 minutes I get out of there and i drive away and the low tire indicator comes on. I call and after 5 minutes if being transferred around this guy Francis comes on and says «. What do you want me to do !» Call in the morning or come by” Don these people think we have nothing better to do ??
The service is horrible, the staff is rude and could not find them in the store, not trained
and speak Spanish to one another in front of you, making you feel you are in the wrong country. (how do I know that they are not talking about me ?)

Just look at all the customers waiting, they all seem aggravated and disgusted.

Called now to get a quote to instal a back up camera and fog lamps in my car. I asked for installation. The guy on phone said 150. I asked him is it for both or one. He said leme check and hung up the phone in 5 minutes.
Keep it up guys, will call someone else for business.

Called the day before, they don’t take appointments for oil change. The guy asked me to come by 9 AM next day. Was at the counter 9:05 AM next day. The guy at the counter said ‘could be an hour’. I’ve been waiting for 1 hour 40 minutes. My car is still in the same spot. The guy in the counter has been saying my car is the next in line for over an hour now. I would never come back here.

I came in here with expectations set low. really low. I left extremely surprised. Read on for more.
My trip to Pep Boys was caused by my car not starting on Sunday. My friend who starts it for me (It can’t afford the high NYC rent, so it rests in a lot in the Garden State) had to jump start it and even ran it for me for 45 minutes. I decided on Tuesday, I would commute in from the city and get it checked out by a local shop. He recommended Pep Boys, Josh credit for the assist.
I set a 3:15 appointment. I was coming from the other side of 17, making a U-​Turn onto the South side and I actually missed the entrance and pulled into TGIF next door. Realizing they weren’t connected, I saw this as a harbinger of things to come as I had to make two more u-​turns to get back the entrance (things I don’t miss about NJ).
I was prepared for a long drawn out wait, based on the reviews here. I was ready to, quoting Sonny Corleone, «Go to the matresses». I packed a bottle of water, a kindle, my iphone with headphones for music, and an Ipad as I read they had wifi avaialble. Here is an actual time line of the services.
3:15– I stroll in, announce myself to the guy at the counter. He has my name on the screen, I tell him my problem. I hand him my keys.
3:17– I go to sit down in the waiting room, making small talk with a truck driver who was complaining about his car part as I feigned interest.
3:19– A nice mechanic approaches me and hands me my keys, telling me to pull the car around back.
3:21– I’m parked right up along the entrance to the Pep Boys Service area. He asks me to pop the hood.
3:23– Two mecahnics are looking at a diagnostic of my car. Announce that I need a new battery.
3:25– I’m at the front desk picking a new battery and getting a price quote.
3:27– On the phone with my parents in the waiting room
3:35– Mechanic signals to me that he is done and points to the front desk.
3:40– I’ve paid ($ 140 for the part with a 3 year warranty/​labor included) for my new battery and I walk out the door.
3:41– I’m at my car, windows rolled down. Fastest mechanic in the east no where in site. I wanted to thank him. I wanted to give him a high five. I never had the chance.
A battery diagnostic and battery replacement in 26 minutes, WOW. Sign me up for some of that again.

This past Saturday we had the most awful experience ever at this location! My fiancée and I bought both our cars there for an oil change and this was our experience:
1. We were told the wait time was about 30 minutes. No problem. We arrived and they took our keys at about 1045am. We didn’t end up leaving until about 130pm.
2. When they gave me my keys first, the low tire light was on. I bought this to the mechanics attention and he told me I had to drive on it for awhile. I looked at the tires and they didn’t look full. They also didn’t look like that when I bought the jeep in. I drove around the parking lot for 15 minutes and the light still didn’t go off. The mechanic all but rolled his eyes at me and told me I had to drive at high speeds for it to go off. Weird right? I’ve never been told that before and knew he was blowing smoke up my ass. I decided to save myself the argument and go to the gas station to do it myself. When I went to the gas station, I found a screw in my tire that I know for a FACT wasn’t there before I bought my jeep in. So now I have to replace my tire because this shop destroyed it.
3. My fiancé asked for an oil change and a tire rotation. They didn’t even bring his car into the garage until 12:50pm. They had the car on the lifts for all of 3 minutes before they bought it down to bring it out of garage. When my fiancé approached mechanic to tell him he forgot to rotate tires, the mechanic said he wasn’t going to do it because it wasn’t necessary. Rob had been driving on those tires for over a year and knows a lot about cars. He knew they needed to be rotated so he went inside to talk to general manager who was as dismissive as the mechanic. At the end of the conversation the manager told the mechanic to rotate them because rob was right. The minute the manager walked away the mechanic yelled at rob for telling his boss. Rob was infuriated. Once they pulled the car out of the garage rob parked in the front lot and decided to make sure everything was done correctly. He popped his hood only to find none of the fluids were filled. He went inside to complain and the manager just shrugged at him and told him that if he wanted he could purchase the fluids and do it himself. WHAT?!? That’s the shittiest customer service I’ve ever seen. Rob bought all the fluids and have himself his own oil change right in the parking lot while swearing at this entire store.
We will never be returning to this establishment and a poor review will be posted on every single webpage I know. It was a waste of money, time and all of my patience. We will be taking our business elsewhere and warning everyone we know about this pepboys.

I really like this Pep Boys. I went in for an oil change and a new tire. Service was really fast, despite my being very late due to a debris spill that tied up traffic for hours on Rte 17. They gave me a coupon for $ 10 off the oil change and let me know that my rim was bent. No high pressure sales or scare tactics used. In fact, I thought everyone was very pleasant and professional. They also take the Wright Express fleet card. My experience was good.

We stopped here to get our four tires replaced. The price was fine, with a 4 for 3 deal on some of the brands featured for sale.
The appointment that we made the day before in order to cut the waiting time of being a walk in was a formality, not being taken for twenty minutes later than the appointed time.
It took almost two hours for the mechanic to replace all four, balance, and align. Too long, in my opinion. Still with only one mechanic working till 10am, and the others standing around drinking coffee and BSing till it’s punch-​in time… I’d expect as much.
The job was done right, and the price was fine… but the fact that they overbook the early appointments and make you wait even when you MAKE an appointment is lame.
Have another mechanic on duty, for Christ’s sake (or the sake of your customers, more like).

Hugo is the best manager that has come to Pep Boys. I went there with questions concerning a car battery, and he’s one of the few in the auto industry I have encountered who would be willing to go the extra mile and not scam a customer.

I will say this about my recent Pep Boys experience. They stepped it up and made it right. I did file a complaint and they called me back on a Sunday even to talk about my experience.
What I respect most is that they didn’t make excuses for their lack of communication. They owned it and took responsibility. I find this to be rare with most complaints as a lot of companies try to put the blame on the customer. Peb Boys here did not. Their regional service manager, Jim, called me and apologized and asked what he could do to make it right. He offered me a partial refund, for which I was gracious for. He even told me he didn’t want to give me a coupon or gift card because he wanted me to choose to spend my money there again, which I highly respect.
I went back in and also received an apology from the Service Manager and Retail Manager and they also owned it. I really appreciate that. It meant a lot.
They didn’t steal a piece of my car, apparently they fixed it and didn’t tell me they did so I made an assumption, which you know what they say about that. but, this goes to the communication breakdown of that day.
I think I may be a bit gun shy at first going back but I am willing to give them another shot for making it right and actually carrying and valuing customer feedback.

I was in a bind one Sunday evening (my gas cap was left behind by the pump guy at the station)… and 30 minutes after they closed, they were willing to reopen everything and all (computers and all, which can be very painful)… to sell me one of their last remaining gas cap so I wouldn’t have all my fuel evaporate and have me SOL.
Forever grateful to these guys!
