The food is fantastic from the beef stroganoff to their fresh salads. I absolutely love good iced and sweet tea, their raspberry sweet tea is even fantastic. The atmosphere is very nice and the facility is very clean. I love coming here and will continue to come here on a regular basis.

The best food in Hastings. Whether I’m here for a fancy dinner or a light salad for lunch, the food is always delicious and the service is outstanding. I love that I can choose to be adventurous or not and the menu accommodates my moods. Thanks Onion Grill!

My mother has always liked this restaurant. Finally, I had a chance to go with her. This is probably the best restaurant in Hastings if you want something more than a burger. 1. The waitress was fabulous. She brought us water immediately and gave us time to review the menu. 2. The food was excellent. Mom had her usual, Chicken a Al King($ 11.99). Lots of chicken and the pastry is extremely flaky. She loves the pastry. I love salads but most people make salads too fancy. My «WHOYACALLING» CHICKEN?($ 12.99) was perfect. The ingredients were fresh and there was plenty of chicken. 3. Really appreciated the environment. A bar is on the left and the dining room is on the right. This is one of the few places in Hastings where you could have a quiet drink without the usual bar noise. Some of my Hastings friends find this place«spendy» but I felt the prices were exactly right for the amount of food you receive. Plus, there are white tablecloths and cloth napkins — a sign of a owner who pays attention to detail. 4. We had a late lunch. My mother is 92 and the staff was very receptive to her needs. They provided us a table close to the door, next to the window. 5. The décor is nice and if you get a window seat, you can look out over the river. 6. My mother said she has been there for several special occasions which are held on the second floor, offering privacy. 7. I will be returning.

I come out here monthly for the Inn Crowd. The inn keeper recommended this place and I’m glad he did. It was a dreary, rainy night. Perfect night for comfort food. We started with house chips that are like nachos, but aren’t. Also the bedeviled eggs were just right. A salad with an oddly sweet blue cheese dressing was next. A beef stroganoff kind of night. Thick curly que noodles, the most fork tender beef, and plenty of gravy, dollop of sour cream, gotta love that. My husband’s steak wasn’t the greatest, I always have a bite. They do have one marinated in coffee, that I’m curious to try. The furniture in the bathroom I wish I had on my porch. You’ll find yourself looking up a lot to watch the train go around. Each car has a local advertisement. The Onion Grille is the caboose. I like how the place is on a separate block of its own.

First visit this w/e; I ordered the Continental French Dipper w/hand cut fries. The beef was served in chunks not typical slices of roast beef nicely seasoned on toasted hoagie roll, cheese or onions could be for added flavor. too much salt. Same for fries, too much salt ! The pickle was spotty & brown on the skin, unappealing. Some of the fries were black inside. My friend ordered Bacon cheese burger, nicely seasoned, but again too much salt. The service was good, although a bit confusing as we started with one waitress & then another, presume change of shift. The waitress should have communicated that to us or any party they serve. $ 30 + for lunch(tip also). The water glasses didn’t seem thoroughly washed, ring inside of glass. Great atmosphere, except hard back chairs uncomfortable. May try again, but if food is too salty, mediocre won’t return for a third try.

Been in twice now. Had the steak salad the first time and it was decent. Nothing too special. Last night had the pistachio crusted walleye on special. Served with veggies, potato and soup or salad it was certainly a meal. The walleye was fantastic and the crust was perfect. Other places will really go light on the pistachio but not here. Gave you a course ground so you could really taste it but didn’t drown out the flavor of the fish. Will for sure be back.

Had the liver and onions and my wife had the shrimp and mac. I know you may think you might not like liver but then you have never had the Onions version. If is great. Staff is great and fast. We have been at the Onion several times and try something new. All is good.

Closed today, Sunday, 10÷12÷14? That is a dirty dirty lie. They are open and they are wonderful! I’m having the German Oktoberfest pizza and my hubby is having the pumpkin ravioli. Both are beyond expectations delicious. Don’t miss this place!

Tried both lunch and dinner here based on their new menu and I finally do not have to drive all the way to the Lake Elmo Inn for some good Sea Bass or higher end dining in a casual atmosphere. This is a smart restaurant. A controlled menu, good chef and folks who are very smart about competition in a town loaded with those who simply want mass quantities of mediocre food. They are right next door to the VFW in downtown Hastings and as folks filled the parking lots for The Friday fish fry, burgers and fried foods over there, just as many higher end diners filled all the tables at The Onion Grill for Sea Bass, Trout, Steaks and Pasta. If your looking for local fried mediocre mass quantities of food there are many choices in Hastings. The Onion Grill however, is the only place to go in the local area for truly higher end dining. It’s a far cry from the old Levee Café, and has been for some time, and new menu is outstanding.

Overpriced average food that was too salty. Slow service. For my burger I can think of a few different places I would rather go. The onion soup was NOT good.

Very impressive for teeny tiny Hastings. Dinner for 3 of us, we all had a good time, good food, excellent service, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices. Had to deduct 1 star for a few minor things(salty chicken, both Malbec selections were out of stock, «au gratin» potatoes were mediocre). But overall we had a delicious meal and will definitely be going back. Considering the limited options for a nice meal within about 25 miles in any direction, you can’t go wrong with The Onion.

Really liked the menu — a lot if effort to have unique food. My husband got the Knife and Fork Burger, a new addition, that was an open face burger with mozarella cheese and marinara sauce and sausages on top. He loved it! I had the chicken a la king which was just like my mother made — wonderful comfort food. Service was perfect, restaurant is nicely decorated and a very enjoyable experience..

Poor Hastings has a lot of mediocre food. I’m sure much of my dissatisfaction can be attributed to my tastes, but I was nonetheless dissatisfied. The whole menu is pricy for the ordinary types of food they serve. Just because they spell grill with an ‘e’ at the end, they can tack on a few more dollars? Times are hard, and so I can try to overlook how stressed out the two waiters were when they got an unexpected lunch«rush» of about five groups of people. The food itself was just fine. I really don’t enjoy salty food, and it seemed like my dish was overly salty. Looking around at the table, my companions’ food looked just fine, as well, but perhaps not fine enough for the price. Overall, I suggest giving the place a chance. I think they need time to grow into their britches.
