Carl is a dapper dresser. He’s got on a different bow tie every time I come in to see him before spending a long holiday week at the grandparents’ house over in Canebrake. Small batch bourbons can soften many a rough edge, so I keep Grandpa’s liquor cabinet well stocked for our stay. Carl offers the best selection I’ve found in Hattiesburg. When I evacuate here during hurricanes, Carl offers a fine selection of rums to make a tropical tipple to enjoy while staring at the news to see if my house is destroyed. The«staff picks» wine section is always interesting to browse. You get to see what these four oenophiles are enjoying at the moment and at several different price points. To be sure, the prices are not cheap, but I’ll gladly pay a premium to be guided by a cultured bon vivant who knows his way around everything from a fine single malt to an Italian blood orange liqueur or artichoke amaro. Plus it is very close to Canebrake and I hate traffic.
