Restaurant is nice and small. Went on a Friday night at 8 and wasn’t busy at all just another couple. Got the volcano appetizer it was good but very small had pears inside with the tuna which was nice and fresh avocado on the outside. Special rolls range from 7 – 12 which is very good pricing. Ordered the Sakura roll which was bite size. Had cucumber on the outside just like a Nurto roll and inside was tuna salmon and fluke(pretty good). Freedom roll was delicious!!! Lobster with cream cheese and avocado and shrimp on the outside of the rice. They had a ginger dressing which raised very fresh like they just blended a lot of fresh ingredients together and made it themselves. Thought it was very different in a good fresh way. Overall very nice and quiet place. Some portions are a little small but the prices are not bad. Sushi is fresh. Would go again for lunch.

Stopped in for dinner 9⁄3. Sushi was very good. Service was even better. They gave me a free spritzer while my food was being prepared. I will stop here whenever in the area. Came back 9⁄23 and as expected, food was terrific! Service excellent! Free appetizers rock!!! The only downside is I didn’t have the dining room to myself. I recall coming here once years ago with a friend for an early when we couldn’t get into Kotobuki. This time, we went for a mid-week lunch. The décor and atmosphere is quiet, traditional Japanese, and the service friendly. You may have to wait a bit for the sushi, even when the venue isn’t crowded, but I think it’s worth the wait. After changing my mind a dozen times(every roll sounded good!) I settled on the Kirin roll, with its shrimp tenpura, pepper tuna avocado, and eel sauce. It was delicious, especially the pepper tuna on top. I had to force myself to share. My companion chose the lunch special, with a tuna roll and a Philadelphia roll. I usually don’t care for Philly rolls but this one was good. The tuna was excellent. The only down side seemed to be the odd, flavorless dressing on the house salad, quite a departure from the usual tasty orange/ginger stuff. I’ll be back for more specialty rolls and to try their sushi/sashimi.

I was invited here for a birthday lunch by a co-worker who highly recommended it, left thoroughly impressed. I had the lunch special(3 rolls for $ 13WITH soup AND salad!) and had the salmon, shrimp tempura and yellowfish rolls. All of the rolls tasted fresh and had great rice texture(not too mushy or too hard). Rolls were tight and did not fall apart. Miso soup had plenty of seaweed and soy which I love(hate when it’s basically just a broth). I will definitely be coming back and trying some of the chef’s rolls.

Sushi was not so great… depending on the roll and day you go it can be good or bad. Atmosphere is weird and tense. It’s so empty staff just watches you eat.

Sit at the bar when waiting for your takeout. They always prepare a free goodie for you, while you wait. Excellent service!

I was looking for a sushi fix and Unilocal’d this place. Staff was very nice and place was clean. Food was good but not great. I do have to say I only went for lunch and had the generic bento box. I wish I could have tried other dishes off the menu they looked great. Sakura was affordable and enjoyable.

Reading some of the previous reviews, I’m going to go out on a limb and say some of them may be a little biased. That being said, here’s one Unilocaler’s objective take on New Sakura… It’s decent. Would I plan a night out here? Probably not. Would I drop in for lunch during the week? Definitely! It’s a no frills Japanese restaurant and it’s consistently the same. The waitress and sushi chef, who I assume are the owners, are very friendly and the atmosphere is, as one Unilocaler described, «cozy.» I can’t really say anything bad about the food other than there are better sushi options in the area, but New Sakura offers it’s own brand of charm and is not a bad lunch spot if you work in the area. Give it a shot. You might be surprised.

Wonderful place. This is close to home and very convenient for take-out. The owners are so friendly and make you feel at home. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the sushi chef and the hostess. The sushi is very good. I recommend the Hauppauge Roll and Phoenix Roll. The hours are convenient and the service is impeccable. We usually do take out due to little children at home, but the small restaurant is wonderful for a quaint meal. While this place is very close to another well-established sushi place, I prefer Sakura because of the friendliness and attention to detail. At the other place, I feel rushed and treated«like a customer».

I just had it for lunch only got Sushi and it’s top-notch. The fish is incredibly fresh! I love that they use local Fluke to make some of their rolls I highly recommend the long island roll. I got take-out, perfect lunch for me! I’m going to be a regular. Great staff too, very nice.

Great Japanese Restaurant My parents owned this restaurant for about 10 years now. We have a great sushi and kitchen menu. The fish is always fresh the rolls are delicious. My favorite roll is the Sakura Dream Roll. California roll fried in tempura batter, gets cut and toped off with spicy tuna and avocado. Yum. My favorite kitchen item is the sesame chicken. I love it here because its my families restaurant and I appreciate all the effort my parents put into this place.
