Wilsonville Recreation Area

Lake Wallenpaupack is gorgeous — definitely go there but the people running this campground are rude and disrespectful to the people staying with them. Grew up coming here as a kid — took my family here and we will NEVER ever ever be back. I’ll give my money to nicer people than this.

Our first family campout and certainly not our last… but it won’t be here. The only real benefit I see for this particular campground is the availability of boat slips. To many, this is important. Since we had a boater in our group, this was critical. In all honesty, having the boat there made up for the not-​so-​great camping conditions. Since we were camping in tents and only for the weekend, we were relegated to a strip of sites that were right along a very busy stretch of road that had a loud and continuous stream of traffic 24 hours a day. If you are coming here, try to avoid these sites — they are simply awful. I did not sleep much the 2 nights we were here. Also, the bathroom nearest us did not have any cold running water at the time and the toilets didn’t flush… so they were all full of… As I was checking in, I observed the staffer taking a phone call and getting frustrated with a caller asking for directions. Seemed like an innocent request.
On the plus side, the tent sites had electric hookups and running water. Also, the location on Lake Wallenpaupack is quite beautiful. The kids had a great time — that is all I can ask for.
