Advanced OB-GYN Associates

Save yourself a lot of stress and trouble and DO NOT use Advanced OB/​Gyn Associates. Overall, I would say that I had a decently pleasant experience as a patient while interacting with my doctor (Dr. Monica Kapoor) and nurses; however, there were several other major factors that overshadowed this experience:
#1 — Billing. Advanced OB/​Gyn uses an external billing service that is LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE to work with and completely incompetent. No one in the actual doctor’s office can or will answer ANY question related to billing, so you must go through this external agency. I (and my insurance company) called them on multiple occasions regarding billing errors/​questions, and several times was actually told that they could not find me as a patient, my doctor or even Advanced OB/​Gyn as an office in their system!!! Unbelievable! This was the only billing number to call, yet they couldn’t even locate Dr. Monica Kapoor as a provider that they serviced. Therefore, there was literally no way to resolve issues. Furthermore, when I paid several bills directly through my HSA, I still received bills saying that I never paid. I verified through my HSA and showed confirmation of the payments to the billing department, yet they still refused to acknowledge my payments. I honestly think they are running some sort of scam in order to double charge people. I am fearful that they will send some sort of collection agency after me, yet there is no further way I can prove to them that I have paid other than the receipts I have already shown them from my HSA company.
#2 — Improper Coding of Appointments. Related to billing, I had MULTIPLE appointments that were improperly coded by the office, which resulted in my insurance not covering them. I was visiting the office for prenatal appointments (considered preventative by my insurance and covered), yet multiple of these appointments were simply coded as «medical visits», not «preventative prenatal» visits; therefore, they were not covered by insurance. What’s worse is that the doctor’s office REFUSED to correct the improper billing, even though they would acknowledge that yes, I was a pregnant patient there for my monthly/​weekly appointments. This was totally infuriating and related to their incompetent billing department who refuses to admit that anything they’ve done could have possibly been in error (see above). This is not a moot point when these errors cost me over $ 1000 out of pocket for a genetic screening test that they ordered on my blood work (which I was not informed of or given the option to opt in or out of), which was then coded as «medical» and not «prenatal». Again, the doctor herself acknowledged that this was in fact PRENATAL bloodwork, yet somehow it was «impossible» for her/​them to go back and change the coding on the blood panel. By the time my last improperly coded appointment bill came through, I decided just to pay it out of pocket, because it truly wasn’t worth the stress and struggle to even attempt to have them resolve it — which is just plain sad.
#3 — Disorganized office. At several of my appointments, the office didn’t even know «what I was there for» — yet they are the ones that told me to schedule the appointments («come back in 1 month» etc. for pregnancy-​related appointments). They forgot to collect urine/​blood samples that they needed to collect and also told me to come in at the wrong intervals (i.e. scheduling an ultrasound for me too early in my pregnancy for what they needed to complete). When I inquired about specific test results, they were not able to provide me with concrete information. When I requested my medical records so that I could transfer to a new doctor’s office, it took them over 3 weeks to compile the records, at which point there were still lab tests and reports missing!
I left this doctor’s office over 2 months ago due to their utter incompetence and refusal to help resolve billing issues, yet I am still receiving phony bills for charges that I have already paid. Unfortunately, they turned many «happy» (pregnancy) doctor’s visits into a total nightmare — I can’t even imagine dealing with a serious medical condition and having to deal with improper billing and this rudeness on top of it. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
