People Ending The Slaughter – P.E.T.S.

These people are scum. We adopted a German Shepherd mix for $ 250 a couple years ago, dealt with a lady named Lori. Within a few days of bringing the pup home, he was super sick. Vet said he had Parvo (look it up if unfamiliar, almost always deadly). Spent big bucks to try to save the pup, he ended up passing away. Lori and the PETS scumbags have of course been unreachable, phones not answered, email address abandoned. If anyone has contact info please post, I would love to file a small claims case.

I am astonished to read all the bad reviews. My husband and I adopted a small 3 lb long haired Chihuahua from this rescue and are more than blessed to have such a gem in our lives. It has been 3 years and she is our 3^rd Chihuahua added to our pack. We were informed that she would need surgery to fix her luxating patellas on both of her back knees. We didn’t mind fronting the money and UC Davis did a spectacular job. She is healthy, runs freely, gets along with dogs, cats all big and small, and kids. Rescue groups go through A LOT fishing dogs at the last hour before they are put down. Volunteers work endlessly to save as many animals as possible on hardly any wages. I commend them for their efforts. I’m sorry to hear of everyone else’s woes in adopting but they don’t all come perfect. Chihuahua #2 came to us from a different rescue and was sick for months before we finally got her diet right. Thank you for rescuing and hopefully you can see the good in how far your dog or cat has come since adopting. Cheers!

Well, I started emailing the resue about a 11 wk old pup named Barney, My family and I went out and picked up up and paid the $ 250 adoption fee cash. When we met him he seemed fine and «mellow» The trip was about an hour drive and when we got him to the house not even an hour passed by and he was diarreah with mucas and worms, Took him to the vet this morning which cost me another $ 204 and says he has round worms and tapeworms and he had a huge Gash also on his back! probobly from the flea treatment as the other Unilocaler stated! The vet said it was never stiched up or looked like it was treated by a vet. He also had a TICK in his ear, which needed to be treated and removed and he was just a very sick pup. We are waiting for test results on everything else and he is also throwing up. Do not know why they would adopt puppies that are soo sick like this. We need to file a class action law suit, i am SURE after reading all these that we are not the only ones!

Zero stars, if possible. Unfortunately I have to give them one.
I adopted a beautiful pup from them and three days later took her to the intensive care vet where she remained for five days — diagnosed with Parvovirus. My poor pup suffered tremendously because of the poor care she received in her foster home and I spent over $ 3000 spent on vet bills and I hadn’t even had her a week…
PETS promised to help with the bill and now it has been a few months and still no compensation (not even a refund of the $ 250 adoption fee for a sick puppy). The last email I received was exactly THREE WEEKS ago saying they had my check in hand and were mailing it. No check, and now they don’t answer the phone or reply to emails.
Please message me directly as well if you have had a bad experience with this organization, or if you (or anyone you know) adopted a GSP mix from this litter in April. I would love to know the other pups haven’t suffered (or been euthanized) from their poor care. This TRULY makes my puppy a RESCUE DOG (I saved her from this organization).

If you adopt from this organization, you are in effect rescuing the pets from this rescue. But not adopting may help shut them down.
They are unorganized, do not care for the animals properly… the puppy i got had round worms, a parasite, a deep gash on her back, and a broken tail. As for the gash they claimed not to know where it came from. She, her sister and brother all had them, HUGE, raw, yellow pus. and the vet suspects it was due to using subpar flea treatment that gave her a chemical burn! I was not told of any of these conditions, and suspect they were never taken to the vet.
She also did not bring my puppies vet records, and said to email her and get scanned copies. When I emailed her, she said I had lost them and that she may or may not be able to retrieve them.
Furthermore, you must pay in cash, and the woman is consistently rude and condescending. I read on another website, one woman basically had money stolen from her.
I am very concerned about this organization and may find authorities to report them to.

I agree with the 4 star reviewer as to the fact that people don’t write about their good experiences. I think it is wonderful to go out of one’s way to write good reviews to make things fair and balanced. My favorite thai restaurant in Mountain View is far from rated as highly as it should on Unilocal (King of Krung Thai! :))
I am also more than thrilled that the 2 year old Husky Sandy adopted was healthy and that all went well. In the end it is all about the pup and their happiness.
I would imagine it is possible to go to a fair of P.E.T.S., pick a healthy pup, and have no further problems. This could certainly be your experience with P.E.T.S. if you get lucky to have a healthy dog from them.
That said, just BE CAREFUL. Having good luck with them does not mean that they are not disorganized and incredibly shady.
I have been trying for 10 days now to get Bella’s vet records (which they «forgot» to bring and said I must have lost)… they are unresponsive to emails, and when they do respond promise that they will be sending them. I JUST sent an email 5 minutes ago, and they now have an auto-​reply that says:
Hello. I am unavailable to read your message at this time.
To add more information: They have never once answered the phone number and the voicemail box has always been full. Try it for yourself. They were willing to let me walk away with my puppy without even knowing who I was (no other rescue would do so). This would FAR from be your experience with other rescues such as pound puppy rescue.
PLEASE adopt from a rescue and not a breeder. And PLEASE be careful. Make sure to get official records from a vet saying there is a clean bill of health.

Do not adopt from this organization. They are the most unorganized, unprofessional group I’ve ever encountered. Please do not support this group. My puppy Sancho was diagnosed with kennel cough, coccidia, giardia, mites, demodectic mange and worms. It took 3 months before he was healthy enough to be neutered. After he was finally neutered I emailed the certificate to the organization to receive my rebate. That was February 6, 2009. Now, July 28, 2009 I have still not received my rebate and they will no longer return communication. If you had an experience similar to mine — please message me. I would love to hear your story so that I can show the authorities and agencies I am in contact with that this is a pattern of abuse — not a single incident.
