History

Established in 2005.

The town of Healdsburg was laid out in 1857, and within a couple decades, the town’s Plaza had become the hub of village life. By 1900, new structures ringed the Plaza, including one known as the Kruse Building, which housed Wells Fargo & Company’s offices and express coach stop, Healdsburg Shoe House, Langhart’s photography studio and a dental office.

As the town grew and prospered, various businesses occupied spaces in the Kruse Building. Some 82 years after it was built, local resident Jenny Genkins purchased the edifice and turned it into a bed-​and-​breakfast inn, which operated until 2004.

Spurred by the need for seismic retrofitting, the building underwent a major renovation in 2004. Though it now offers the comforts of a modern structure, many original features remain, including exposed interior brick walls (the work of 19th Century Italian stone masons), and the beautiful, original staircase. Soon after the renovation was completed in 2005, Four Sisters Inns opened the doors.

Four Sisters Inns is a prestigious collection of 13 smaller boutique inns and hotels located in California.

It all began in 1976 when the Post family opened their home, the spectacular Green Gables Inn on the shores of Monterey Bay, to the public on a limited basis. Taken by the warmth of innkeeping, they refined hospitality to an art, carefully selecting inns for the collection. Each inn has to be very special: in architecture, history, location, and privacy. From city to country, the inns have become a haven for their guests.

Over time, we’ve created standards that help define Four Sisters Inns. Today, with locations in the most desirable regions of California, each inn combines inviting décor with exceptional service and amenities. With architecture ranging from Victorian to French country to Craftsman to Cape Cod Beach, Four Sisters Inns continues to serve its guests with grace and professionalism.

We were a bit concerned when we checked in because of the scaffolding in front and the location right on the plaza. However, the room was huge, jetted tub, wonderfully quiet and the bed comfortable. The staff was great and the breakfast was delicious. We could walk to a number of wine tastings and restaurants. I only wish we could have stayed another day or two.

I love it! My daughter and I did a quick getaway trip and decided on the Healdsburg Inn because of the location and having stayed at a sister property in Sonoma. This is a perfect little hotel right on the plaza. No need to drive. You can walk everywhere. The breakfast was amazing. The hotel staff is super friendly and accommodating. The room was perfect. Parking is in an adjacent lot and it’s 10 a day. Will come back and stay here again.

If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. It’s a beautiful Inn located in an outstanding location walking distance to the finest restaurants and tasting rooms. Staff was friendly. Room was beautiful and very clean. I was very happy overall until… the following day.
We had room 7 which is located next to the kitchen. I was woken up by the strong smell of cooking and it wasn’t a pleasant smell at all. It was so strong I had to go open our window wide. Well we stayed on a Sunday night and Monday morning is garbage day. Yup, you thought that right, noisy garbage trucks; which I don’t blame the Inn for but I wouldn’t have had my window wide open if my room wasn’t smelling up with the food that was being cooked. Needless to say on my day off I’m up at 6:30am grabbing my coffee to which was HORRIBLE. I was grumpy by this point and tried to go back to bed. I gave up and walked down to the local bakery to get a good cup of coffee.
The breakfast they served was decent and tasted good… Not outstanding, just good. I tried to relax a little longer but to no end could I. We had plans to visit another winery and have lunch at Brava’s Tapa Bar but I was tired and not in the mood. Because of this we headed back home. Two businesses lost out on our business Monday due to the lack of sleep we received at the Inn.
Would I go back? Possibly but not in room 7.

Room is very comfortable, clean and the a/​c works great! We are traveling through town for one night only. The King suite even has a day bed, which was perfect for my 13 year old son. It was so nice to be able to stay at a B&B even though we had a child traveling with us.
Breakfast was great and filling. The hotel is located in the middle of town so the perfect location to walk to everything.

The location of this inn can not be beat; you can walk to wine tasting rooms and great restaurants. We stayed in room #5, which has as a large window overlooking the square. The inn’s staff were helpful, friendly, and accommodating. We enjoyed the quiche before heading out. I would definitely stay here again. My only couple gripes are: the a/​c could not be turned below 72 degrees and the bathroom sink and shower could use some updating. Those 2 things would not deter us from returning, though.

This is a nice place to stay. I had only one little glitch: After I checked in I noted that I was in the only ADA room in the hotel. I asked the front desk why I was put there. The lady at the front desk had lots of attitude! (Hence the four stars) and almost made me rethink staying here.
After calming down, I was very happy not only about the place but the location. This is close to all the action in downtown. The rooms are very nice and the breakfast is great. The cook was very kind in preparing my order earlier than normal which allowed me to attend to business.
I’m sure I’ll stay here again.

I have been meaning to wrire this for a LONG time but i have been trying to finish off my wedding planning and now its ALL over. Let me say first and foremost that this review is mostly about the people that work in the overall/​events office as I think the main desk staff and other staff are likely great. BUT for any of you who want to book more than one room or a block for an event like a wedding, STAY AWAY. These folks are not flexible, nice, understanding or courteous AT ALL. It is very strange to me to come across people like this in the service industry but this is one of them.
We just had a minor issue with some extra rooms leftover and so they cancelled our entire room block and put 6 of our guests out of luck. PLUS they were SUPER RUDE about it. I was in shock.
ALL BRIDES AND WEDDING PLANNERS STAY AWAY!!!

Really loved the location of the hotel. This is right on the square with a view of an old redwood tree. Easy to walk to restaurants and shops. This is an older building turned into a hotel. It has a lot of charm. They had breakfast each morning that was a nice start to the day. The dining room over looks the park and feels like you are in the trees. The room was nice and had a fireplace. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice with a jetted tub, but the shower was small. The only issue we had with noise was someone was letting their dog out at 11:00pm and let it run around and bark. This was not the fault of the hotel, just inconsiderate people. The hotel staff was so nice and accommodating. They even offered to make us breakfast at 6:00am before we had to leave. Would stay here again!

Zipped into town for a night and stayed at this very nice Inn. The staff was more than hospitable and the building itself is beautiful. There are only a dozen or so rooms in this inn but it’s very spacious and quiet.
The location is right on the square so it couldn’t be more convenient to hit the restaurants and tasting rooms. The rooms have been updated and the beds are comfortable.
I will return.

5 stars all around. Welcoming and hospitable staff, large room, clean room, ideally located, nice amenities… it was perfect. The wife and I, and our baby boy made a weekend of Healdsburg — a town we had never visited. It was a great getaway and I would recommend Healdsburg Inn to a friend without hesitation.

My husband and I have stayed here twice and we love this inn even more each time we return. On this latest trip, we stayed in room 6, which is on the 2nd floor, overlooks the plaza and is immediately beside the breakfast/​afternoon drinks & snacks area.
Our room had a king bed, bay windows, fireplace and TV, with French doors leading to the bathroom. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and separate shower. We liked it better that the precious room we stayed in on the 1st floor (beside the back entrance and across the elevator), which was smaller, had a fireplace that seemed to only be for show (no heat whatsoever) and smaller bathroom.
They must have updated the inn since some previous reviews, because we had a Comcast box, cable, and radio channels at the very end (up to channel 999 I think).
The breakfasts usually consist of a cooked egg dish, pancakes, fruit, English muffins, toast, cereal, and a pastry. Sometimes they have hard-​boiled eggs. Breakfast is served from 8am-​10am… and I guess how much food is left depends on the other guests. The first time we were here, the food was wiped out by 8:45am or so. However, food was still plentiful around 9:45am this second trip.
Coffee, tea, lemon water and pastries (cookies, mini muffins, or scones) are available 24⁄7. They serve some white and red wine, hors d’oeuvres (cheese, veggies, etc.) everyday from 5−6pm.
The inn is conveniently located in front of the plaza, and everything in Healdsburg is a block or two away — just walk to wherever you want to go and avoid any DUI’s :)
There is 3-​hour parking in front of the inn (enforced 12−6pm) and you can reserve a parking spot with the front desk for $ 10/​day.
We love Healdsburg and this is the only place we stay at! Perfect balance of a quaint B&B without «staying at your grandmother’s» and enough modern amenities to satisfy people more accustomed to staying at regular hotels.

Such a great opportunity … such a disappointment. The room (10) was oddly shaped but featured a great fireplace. Sadly this was dwarfed by an armoire that blocked the view of the fireplace. A day bed, that could sleep two, narrows the passage to the bathroom and is a toe crunching hazard at night. The overall color scheme is washed out yellow and green that makes the place just soulless and sad. $ 10 per night for parking isn’t much but on top of $ 380 a night for accommodation is just gouging. Poor value for evening drinks and protein less breakfast add to the sense maximal profit ahead of customer value. No staff after 8:00 pm further adds to the sense that the guest is the last thing on the proprietors’ mind.

I’m conflicted.
The pluses:
You could not ask for a better location. We usually stay a little further away from downtown but decided to splurge this time. I loved the convenience of being right on the square.
The breakfast was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but better than average.
The overall atmosphere is great, the breakfast/​wine room has beautiful high ceilings and window that look over the square.
Really nice bathroom with jetted tub and great amenities
The minuses:
The staff was indifferent, at best.
The mattress was horrible, really hard with squeaky springs. Minus a couple of stars for that alone.
It isn’t cheap. The convenience probably would have been worth it if the bed had been comfortable.

I think we liked this place so much because we were expecting much worse based on the other reviews. The outside is nothing impressive, but the inside has a lot of charm and best of all, is extremely clean and orderly.
We stayed in the king room with a jetted spa bath tub. The room was cute with a private deck and fireplace. I loved the french doors that lead to the bathroom from the bedroom. I do have to say the tv’s need an update… we could barely see the 15″ from our bed.
The evening wine and hors d’ourves was merely cheese, bread, olives, and some veggies and dip, but it was fine as we weren’t trying to have it be our dinner!
Breakfast is a decent spread, but don’t expect waffles, pancakes, or anything fancy. They have enough variety to satisfy you and everything is enjoyable.
Finally, the deal we got made everything seem even better. We got the 2nd night free and when we spontaneously decided to stay a 3rd night, we got it for more than half off. The 2nd night free deal lasts through mid-​April.
We plan to go back and have been recommending the inn to friends and family!

I stayed there over the holidays last year and had such a good time we thought we’d do it again this year. Unfortunately, someone made a mistake with our reservation and the manager dealt with it very poorly. Apart from her inability to muster even the pretense of courtesy with us, she was really hard on the person working at the front desk, and that’s an ugly thing to watch.
We wound up staying at the Healdsburg Hotel, which was lovely.

What a cute place! This was my first time staying at a B&B in the States, but I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I booked the room using an ideeli voucher, of which the process was new to both me and Wanda, who I booked over the phone with. Luckily, Wanda was very patient and helpful and assured me that we would figure it out together.
When my bf and I arrived at the inn, we were a bit early, but Wanda graciously let us check in early (before 3pm). The room wasn’t quite ready when we got there, so we visited a couple tasting rooms (La Crema and Williamson if you’re ever in the area — I highly recommend both!) in the vicinity before finally heading to our room. The room itself was lovely — nicely decorated (read: not tacky) and had a nice view of the plaza. My 2 favorite things about the room: the fireplace (turned on by a switch) and the whirlpool bathtub (very relaxing!).
Everything from afternoon wine & cheese to breakfast in the morning was delightfully pleasant. I would definitely come back here to stay!

Visited the Sonoma Valley area last week as my oldest son wanted to visit some of the local colleges as he prepares to graduate from high school in a year. This trip was just the two of us — not my wife and younger son who stayed at home while we ventured through Davis, the Napa Valley and then on to Santa Rosa/​Healdsburg.
I picked the Healdsburg Inn based upon the advise of friends and other Unilocalers. Indeed, we were not disappointed: great location, friendly staff, very clean and well appointed rooms (including a fire place and large bathroom for the two of us). Our room had a claw-​footed tub which was quite novel, we thought.
The Healdsburg Inn is also pet friendly and convenient to some great, simple dining spots (I mean, where do you take a 16 yr old who doesn’t yet have a hankering for wine, etc.) We went to Will’s, nearby for simple fish and pasta options).
Hope you enjoy The Inn, we did.

What a great place– highly recommend it. Easy as pie parking, located just around the corner. I didn’t take advantage of the breakfast and regretted it — instead we went around the corner to La Taqueria Sombrero, a small mexican restaurant that got good reviews but was not good and the service was poor. Next time I will definitely do the breakfast at the Inn.
We had room 7 and it was perfect — it was hidden away from the other rooms and has a private balcony. You definitely want to stay the weekend here — one day is not enough. It’s a great place and I can’t wait to go back.
Note — I didn’t hear any couples having sex which was good, but the vent in the bathroom does allow for you to hear the rattling in the kitchen in the morning which woke me up. Other than that, I never saw another guest or heard a peep from them. Was very peaceful.
Note2: For hotel snobs, TV does not have cable and was not a flat screen. Was a small 13inch.
