It really depends on when you go whether the food is fresh. When it is fresh it is decent. I’ve been there for lunch many times and it was usually pretty good. Tonight we went around 7:30 and most of the food was old.

Out in the middle of Montana there is a Chinese Buffet. It’s not the best, but it’s not the worst I’ve ever been to. There are a lot of dishes which are variations on chicken. The hot and sour soup is not bad and the brocolli chicken(no beef that day) was not bad at all either. A decent chinese buffet in the area at a reasonable price. It’s a little awkward though, it’s super quiet in the buffet.

I walked in and thought I was in a homeless shelter! Carpet is dingy and worn, tables didnt seem very clean, most the customers looked as if they came in from panheadling. Then you get to the food… perhaps if I went to a homeless shelter I’d find something better tasting? Only positive was the waitress was friendly.

I arrived around 9pm and the food seemed to have been left unattended and was pretty much a depressing buffet setting. The customer service was top notch but it should also coincide with the presentation and taste of food. I definitely would not come back for a second try. The ice cream machine was out of service and I also noted that I got charged a dollar more than what the sign said for a dinner buffet. It is definitely not worth the money. I would have spent my money on a frozen dinner instead.

My son and I ate there the other night and generally found the food pretty bland and not that great. It’s a buffet, so I know not to expect much, but I can certainly say I’m not a fan.

Pleasantly surprised. Showed up late on Memorial Day. When we got there they were replacing all of the food on the buffet with fresh food. They restocked the whole thing. For $ 10 the broccoli beef was crisp and well prepared. The soup was well seasoned and piping hot. Compared to Ming’s in Denver it didn’t compare. For a reasonably priced quick dinner in the sticks of Montana it was well done.

Meh. Ok food. Not the freshest or largest selection. The waitress was very nice and attentive though.

I was skeptical. The last time I was there(13 years ago) it was a horrible experience, but this time is was really good. A whole wedding party went the night before the wedding and everyone was happy with it.

Good price and friendly service, but the food leaves something to be desired. It’s not terrible, but it’s pretty salty and some of it doesn’t seem like it’s being kept hot enough.

The place is OK, lower than usual prices, which makes it a good value. But the food and seating are mediocre. Usually fast place to eat.

I gave this place a shot, ONCE. The buffet was pretty bad, dried out food, salty, and just generally bad.

My family went here once and we all ended up sick. Several weeks later, my husband’s co-workers went and they also got sick. I wouldn’t go back. There are definitely better places for Chinese food in Helena. If you must go, make sure it is busy so your chances of getting the freshest food possible are higher.

It took me a while to give L&D Chinese buffet a chance. I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit of a snobbish eater and judged it based on the fact that it is in a building that very clearly used to be an Arby’s. I am so glad to admit that I was completely wrong in prejudging this establishment as «seedy» The only thing that I did not enjoy was that it was a bit warm in the restaurant, but the waiter kept the iced water filled up and the food is excellent. There is a great array of choices, including sushi and crab legs. There is something for everyone there from traditional authentic Chinese food to choices for children. Two of us went for dinner and the tab was an even $ 20, the lunch tab would have been $ 14. They will also make any item on the menu for carry out, or you can get a take out container for the buffet if you’d rather eat at home. L & D Chinese Buffet greatly exceeded my expectations and my husband and I look forward to going there again in the near future.

The food quality, as you would expect, is not amazing. However, they generally keep the lines well maintained, the food is generally pretty fresh, and it is very consistent. Consistently good, but not great. I honestly can’t bring myself to order just one thing at a sit-down Chinese restaurant for 50% more than the cost of the buffet at L&D’s, and luckily for me, the variety and quality more than makes up for the fact there may be better Chinese food overall in Helena(Jade’s). L&D’s wins the local Chinese battle 95% of the time for this guy.

L & D Chinese Buffet shines forth as one of Helena’s bright spots. Whether looking for a family style atmosphere that combines low prices with excellent flavor, a cure to a particularly nasty hangover, or just a place to get your gorge on, L & D is sure to satisfy. In addition to the copious amounts of wonderful food, the staff, native Chinese for the most part, is attentive and does a wonderful job of stepping in a just the right time to remove your third cleaned plate of Broccoli Beef and Spring rolls and set you up with a new plate and clean conscience for the dessert. To be honest, I could extol the virtues of L & D for days, but I strongly suggest that you go try it for yourself. So loosen your belt a notch or two, think of investing in a larger set of pants, get rid of all of the scales around your house, and get ready for a memorable experience that will leave you on the verge of exploding with happiness and sweet and sour sauce. L & D, here I come!

Favorite restaurant in Helena! It’s the place I recommend for meeting a friend for dinner largely because beneath it’s lack of outward charm(it does look questionable) is such amazing food for such a reasonable price… it comes as a surprise to most, and after you’ve gone there once it becomes an instant hit.

Although the price is right, many of the dishes here are quite awful. If you are hungry, by all means, but there is better Chinese food in Helena.
