For a lightweight, with a fierce Asian glow, this event might not have been the most ingenious of decisions. Add a friend with the same predicament can end in catastrophe. Not the case here. The three ounce mugs was the perfect amount to give a taste, but not bombard the system with an abundance of booze. While most of the breweries came out with kegs, a few came with their most common drinks in six packs. A few that stood out for me was Banger Brewery with their El Heffe and Triple 7’s Mango Hef. A nice residual heat could be tasted on the tail end of the Banger blend. It had an intriguing flavor that had me pairing it with the BBQ on hand. I tend to enjoy the hoppiness of an IPA, but nothing stood out. The Wild Blue and Black Lagers were refreshingly light. Barley’s also cooks up a mean BBQ. Perusing the grounds on my way to the restroom, I saw that their normal specials are rather affordable. To come in here for a beer and some delicious brisket will not be a costly endeavor.

Barley’s hosts this annual Brewfest extravaganza filled with various local and out of state breweries, music, and food. Today we were treated to some perfect weather to be outside, I believe with was in the 80’s with clouds and a good breeze. We were all drinking for a cause They gave us these little sample mug glass, a fraction of the real thing about 3 oz. And you get to drink all you want, all your body can take, or until they run out. I tied to make conversation with all of the breweries as I sampled their best and favorite offering because I love drinking great handcrafted beer and wouldn’t mind learning a little about it. Everyone one were cool with sharing their stories and passion in brewing. Some of my favorites were those from Joseph James, Barley’s, Ellis Island, Boulder Dam brewing, Gordon Biersch… come on now they all my favorites. Well almost all I’ve learned I don’t like IPAs, I’ll try them. Another one of my favorites were those wild blue, red, and black beers, I believe !? For food they had some mighty tasty smoked brisket, BBQ pulled pork, chickens wings, kielbasas, and burgers each for $ 5. There were a lot of people wearing pretzel necklaces from the Unilocal booth so I figured testing out my necklace making skills. When I was almost complete with making the perfect pretzel necklace, using all the pretzel from my bag, a slip of the hand spilled all of it to the ground. No I was not drunk yet. With the remaining pretzel on my necklace I made my way to the Strawberry Creek booth from some tasty lemon mayo. Definitely making it back for next years one. Cool, laid back environment, just remember that designated driver.
