I just finished my appointment with Dr. Chan. She has a very bright and cheerful disposition. She really takes the time to listen to all your concerns and answers your questions with clear explanations and diagrams.
She has seen our entire family. She is also seeing my wife today, who also feels very strongly about her skills, expertise, and comforting nature. A while back she also saw my 7-​year-​old son. She is especially great with kids, non-​intimidating, friendly, and fun. I know my son is looking forward to his next eye appointment.
I have a family history of glaucoma and cataracts in my family, so I’m pretty concerned about the future of my eyes. I place complete trust in Dr. Chan and will be seeing her regularly in the future.

I have gone to multiple eye doctors in the area and it was never a good fit. Finally I found Dr. Chan. Her staff is great as well! They are very transparent about the price breakdown and insurance coverage vs out of pocket pays and offering rebate cards for contacts. Dr. Chan is very personable, polite and helpful with my concerns. She offers samples of contact lens solutions and eye drops which are great for travel. Free shipping for my contacts (for a years worth) so I didn’t have to go back to the office. They even adjusted my glasses for me, even though I didn’t get the glasses there. Great service and great doctor.

Wow! I cannot say enough positive comments about Dr. Chan and her staff! You are warmly welcomed by everyone, and the time spent with each patient is «over the top.» Their selection of glasses are very nice! Dr. Chan’s office is always clean. :-)

Dr. Chan and her staff are amazing! I had a difficult prescription to fit after having retinal surgeries, a buckle placed on one of my eyes and astigmatism in both. That was 12 years ago. The optometrist I had been seeing since the surgery always blamed me in some way for HIS inability to find the correct fit. Nice.
Last week enough was enough. My last pair of spares that was a good combination gave out. I was desperate to get a new prescription. I called the former optometrist and he wouldn’t fit me in and I had to wait three weeks. If you are dependent on your contacts, you know that 3 weeks without them is unacceptable.
So I said a prayer to find an optometrist who would understand my situation, was familiar with fitting someone like me successfully with contacts and who could help me by tomorrow. Then I Googled «nearest optometrist’. Bright Eyes came up first. I called and left a message due to calling during lunch break. Concerned about if I’d ever hear from them, I called number two on the list. The receptionist was only skilled enough to take my appointment request. I made an appointment. Then Bright Eyes returned my call. I already had an appointment with #2 so we ended the conversation professionally. I then called back #2 and spoke with different office staff who answered the phone. Ever found yourself talking to someone and they are in conversation with you and you know they’re not listening to you? Such was the case. I’ve had these eye issues all my life so I know what to ask with the appropriate vocabulary. This staffer did not. Call ended.
I called Bright Eyes back. I asked specific questions due to needing to know if their doctor was knowledgeable successfully fitting someone with my issues. The staffer answered what she could and had me talk with a second staffer. She did the same and then had me talk to the doctor. The doctor replied with knowledgeable answers so I made the appointment for the next day and had all my records faxed over from former optometrist immediately. I cancelled appointment with #2.
I was desperate. Hate that feeling and I was. So the next day I sheepishly entered the Bright Eyes office due to not knowing if I’d been rude to the staff due to my desperation and still unsure if my hunch was right that Dr. Chan would be able to help me. My previous experiences with optometry doctors and staff was negative.
The Bright Eyes staff were kind! They understood being frustrated with inability to see. The exam with Dr. Chan was amazing! She understood my situation as a family member of hers had gone through something extremely similar!
Dr. Chan had ordered trial lenses in anticipation of my visit and one of the combinations worked PERFECTLY!!! It was the best I’d been able to see in 12 years!!! I couldn’t stop crying due to the relief.
For any and all optometry needs, do yourself a favor and go to Bright Eyes immediately!!! Refer your friends and family! They will thank you!

I ordered my new GUCCI glasses today at Bright Eyes. Their selection of modern and designer glasses is varied and in all price ranges. The helpful staff were able to help me select a style that was suitable to my face and budget! I made my appointment via phone last week and they were able to accommodate my early morning appointment preference, with out any problem. All the staff are pleasant, courteous and the office is arranged nicely and up to date.
I have been going to Bright Eyes for the past 8 years and always am able to get the latest high fashion glasses, with good care.

Dr. Chan remains one of the best, highly professional optometrists in the area. Aside from having such a pleasant demeanor, if you’ve seen her educational credentials alone you would know that you are in very capable hands.
I have had only positive experiences at her office, and would refer friends to this practice at any opportunity.

I’ve been coming to Bright Eyes for years. They are terrific! The staff is always warm and friendly, and they take the time to make you feel welcome and not rushed.
I went in for an exam the other day, and everyone was so friendly. While I was picking out glasses the gal helping me was very patient and helpful. She offered suggestions and noticed things that I wouldn’t have.
And Dr. Chan is terrific! Very kind and helpful. She takes the time to listen to my questions and gives plenty of information.

I love the dr. She’s always been amazing and wonderful. Extremely helpful and generous. But new staff, Ceci was not helpful. Enough to make me turn my services elsewhere. First she told me there were Appts avail today and asked what I was looking to sch, then She was trying to make me repeat vision checks and or wait till June to get my glasses when I’ve been waiting since June to sch this appt. Then she said there were no appt’s avail today. I then asked for a copy of my prescription.
I asked her to tell me what I usually order in my glasses, she said I should ask the next person I’m getting them from. Rude!!! Bye!
2016 –a year later– updated my rating: After much thought about my experience, I miss the dr. If my insurance hadn’t chg’d, I’d probably schedule an appointment.

If you are looking for first class eye care or simply need some nice new eyewear, look no further than Bright Eyes Optometry. The doctor and staff will make you feel like the most important person in the room. In addition, Dr. Janet Chan is personable and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Dr. chan and her wonderful staff in Hercules, CA.

We recently changed insurances and had to change optometrists — which was fine because our old one had moved to a new practice. I found Dr. Chan’s office through our insurance company and it turns out she’s down the hall from the orthodontist we’ve been using for years.
I’m always wary about meeting a new optometrist — I’m a nightmare patient — I sleep in my contacts and wear them way beyond the time I’m supposed to. I’ve been wearing corrective lenses of some sort or another for almost 40 years and have tried pretty much everything. I know my eyes and I’m not afraid to tell a doctor how I am. I am also blessed to have healthy eyes despite how I wear contacts.
Dr. Chan was AMAZING. I cannot say that enough. She listened to everything I had to say, didn’t chastize me like a bad child and worked with how I am with my corrective lenses. Because of her positive, non-​judgemental attitude, I’m getting glasses and am going to work on being better about my contact lens use.
This brings me to her staff. I hate wearing glasses. Wearing glasses reminds me of being that nerdy kid in elementary school that all the kids made fun of. I have not found a set of glasses (aside from sunglasses) that I actually like to wear due to the weight of the lenses because of my prescription. But, I was determined that I was going to find glasses that I would want to wear. Her staff sat with me for at least an hour as I tried on frame after frame after frame. They gave their honest opinion and never once made me feel like I was imposing on their time. I found frames we all agreed would look good on me and I look forward to wearing glasses more in the future.
All told, between me and my husband who was getting glasses to replace his lost ones, we were there for at least two hours. I never once felt like we were taking too much of their time. We smiled and laughed the whole visit. At the end, I made appointments for two of my kids and will make one for the third as well.
I am grateful to have found Dr. Chan and her staff. They are all amazing and I look forward to our annual visits to her office. I know it will be a great experience because Dr. Chan is wonderful and she hires wonderful assistants. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a great optometrist.

Attention to detail goes along way in the world of eye care. Every detail needs to be seen and thanks to Dr Chan I see more details than before. The office is clean and the staff is welcoming, warm, and incredibly nice. I have to also say that the entire experience from start to finish was great. My contacts arrived in a few days as opposed to the week that they had mentioned. I am very pleased. I love personal attention and everyone in this office provided just that and with smiles galore! And BTW plenty of parking!!!

I didn’t start needing glasses until about two years ago and this is my first optometry experience. Dr. Chan is super friendly and really informative. I tend to ask a lot of questions due to my curious demeanor and she is always more than gracious to explain everything to me! The staff was really great in helping me to choose glasses.
Although I don’t have experience with any other optometrist, I can compare this to my experience with other doctors. and she’s definitely the best I’ve encountered. She isn’t pushy with her opinion, is fair with presenting all of your options. just like a doctor should be.
So. I highly recommend!

I absolutely love Dr. Janet Chan and her staff! I’ve been with Bright Eyes for about 8 years now and she is always exceptional at what she does. I recently had an exam as well as contact evaluation and Dr. Chan did everything she could to assure my satisfaction. I love coming to her office, with such bright smiles and friendly, knowledgeable staff. Definitely deserves 5-​stars! I highly recommend if you want a comfortable visit and her prices are extremely affordable.

I highly recommend Bright Eyes. I’ve been seeing Dr. Chan for at least 8 years now? Several of my family members are now patients and they’ve given nothing but glowing reviews. Dr. Chan and all of her staff are knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated to making sure you are completely satisfied.
Recently, I found out my contact lenses were being discontinued and I found the subsequent replacement model uncomfortable. Dr. Chan was very patient with me. She researched different brands and worked with me until I found a brand that I was happy with.
On one occasion, I had a friend visiting from out of town who got some type of infection from his contacts. I called Dr. Chan, and without hesitation, she had me bring him in right away on a SATURDAY for an emergency exam. That’s unheard of!
The new office in Hercules is right off the freeway, super clean, with plenty of free parking. One day she may even convince me to get my eyes dilated. =)

I have been seeing Dr. Janet Chan ever since she started her business in Pinole and I lived in Berkeley. Even though she has now moved her practice to Hercules and I have subsequently moved to San Francisco, I still drive all the way to Hercules to see her. She is absolutely fabulous and incredibly conscientious. She always does a complete thorough exam and prescription process and never rushes me if I have concerns or questions. I even called her once in a panic when my eye dilated and she spent a good twenty minutes on the phone with me, running me through some eye exercises and checking the ingredients of my over-​the-​counter eye drops, which it turned out, had overly concentrated after being in my purse too long.
Her staff never mind when I bring my glasses in numerous times throughout the year to be adjusted after my son has bent them out of shape. She has a terrific selection of frames, especially for those of us who need smaller frames or who have a wide bridge. I love the fact that they mail my contact lenses to me at no additional charge, saving me a trip across the Bay and babysitter fees. Oh, and for you parents out there, Dr. Chan’s office is very child-​friendly and they have videos your toddler can watch, while you have your exam.

I’ve been coming to Bright Eyes Optometry ever since it was Pinole Optometry when Dr. Wan was still practicing. And when Dr. Chan came aboard & bought the practice she obviously was successful in maintaining the business. Dr. Chan is very professional and she is honest. I’ve been wanting to get her to recommend lasik surgery for me but she feels that it’s not time for me to get it yet and I appreciate that! I see her every year!

Attention to all who are like myself and need small eyeglasses. Bright Eyes Optometry has small frames! I don’t know how many places I’ve been to and have had trouble finding a frame that fits me because everything covers half of my face!
Bright Eyes Optometry is a medium sized office. Clean, bright. And the optometrist, Dr Janet Chan is warm and friendly. I know where I’ll be going for my next pair of glasses.
