History

Established in 2014.

We are a new small academy in the city of Hercules that aims to set ourselves apart from other studios by providing more individual instruction and attention for each student, helping each person create their own unique style of Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu. Although we are small at the moment, our students have already enjoyed great success in competition with minimal experience.

This is by far and large one of the hidden gems in the Bay Area. If you go in on any given class day this is what you will find: a dedicated group of students who approach each lesson with heart and humor, and a gifted instructor with a true love of the art. Coach Sean both articulates each lesson clearly & creates the necessary training around it to dramatically improve your BJJ within ONE class. I love this Academy. There is such camaraderie and support that you can only grow at an exponential rate!

Hercules Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Coach Sean’s leadership has been an amazing experience for my children (boy-​8 years; girl — 6 years). Coach Sean and Coach Gabe couldn’t be more dedicated to their students. They create a positive, but disciplined environment, where everyone thrives. It’s unbelievable how strong my kids have gotten since starting in his class. They enjoy going and have been successful at competitions as well, which is an added bonus. I would highly recommend Hercules BJJ to anyone — child and adult alike.

Sean is one of the best coaches I’ve had. He truly cares about everyone’s success and wants to see them progress forward in the development of their BJJ abilities. During tournaments he puts his students first before himself, which means that if he has to run around for 6 hours coaching his student’s matches and miss a few meals he’ll do it. Sean is a great influence on his students and holds such a positive character. I have the utmost respect for the guy. Keep it up!

My son just turned 8 and joined Hercules BJJ. He loved his first week and hasn’t looked back since. He’s been in a few tournaments within a short period of time and has learned invaluable lessons preparing and competing. Coach Sean and Coach Gabe have done an excellent job in teaching him the art of BJJ. My son says he will ALWAYS practice and looks forward to it on a daily basis. Sean has a strong work ethic and is very technical. He is an awesome teacher and a great leader for these kids. He lives by example.
Also, my husband who just turned 40 has joined as well and competed successfully. My youngest son can’t wait to join when he’s of age. Thank you HBJJ!

If you are looking for a fun and comfortable place to learn BJJ this is the place. Coach Sean’s Professionalism and passion to share his knowledge of BJJ shines. It’s in a great location with plenty of parking and you will be in the company of great people. They have classes for both adults and kids

I can only say nice things about this place. We’ve been to a few kids’ martial arts school around & I usually force my kids to go to their class. I was surprised, the kids willingly wanted to go to Coach Sean’s class. They made good friends with the kids there, I’ve witnessed great progress with their BJJ techniques, I’ve seen their head coach’s support for his team. The kids and adults compete on tournaments (if you are into competing) and they train you to win. I’ve tried their adults class too, and I am impressed how Coach Sean teach all the techniques and details. Definitely highly recommended! Their prices are reasonable too!
