Amigos Tacos

We were so excited that Amigos Tacos had opened up down the street, but now we see it’s closed. Too bad! We now continue to go to the MB AT.

This is like the guy you date that you soooo want to turn into a long-​term thing because he is just so darn geographically desirable. As you can imagine– hearts began to surface in my eyes when I saw Amigos pop up in my neighborhood corner– literally at the corner of my block. I could walk my dog and this vendor o’ splendor was within steps of my mexican-​loving reach.
Now I am a white girl by all accounts. However, I do fashion myself as a mexican connoisseur — especially of all those residing in the South Bay. I have sampled the likes of El Tarasco, La Penita, Muchachos, El Torito, La Playita, Cantina Real, and Taco Bell (don’t hate… nachos bel grande can never be topped at 2 am).
When Amigos moved in, I felt like I could finally rest at night, with the peace of mind that sweet delicious carnitas were only a heartbeat away in case of emergencies.
Well my friends… I have been sorely disappointed and I’ll tell you why.
A) the fish tacos combo is always $ 2 more than any of the other combos… I get that in most places seafood might be a bit more difficult to procure– but amigos, you’re literally steps from the ocean… if anything the carnitas should be the highest item on the menu (last I checked I didn’t see any pig farms close by)
— the other thing that is irritating is that it is never marked on the menu, you are just given this unpleasant surprise at the end when you pick up the bill and are so engulfed in your fish-​taco addicted cycle, that you don’t care if they tell you they will need a lean on your first born
B) they NEVER have radishes… at the beginning they were such a c*&^ tease in that I felt this was a TRUE mexican joint… the radishes signify a quiet knowing that their food is so utterly spicy and hot, that only these crispy pink thin slices of heaven will quell your pain
every time we call and ask, they say they are out of them… morning, noon, or night– just call a spade a spade and admit you no longer serve them
C) They just randomly decide when to be open, and sometimes they are open and just randomly decide not to answer… seriously. how do they stay in business?
That being said, whenever I go to pick up my order, the staff is friendly and polite. The fish tacos are second only to cactus (on Vine in Hollywood), and the salsa bar is a nod to the other legit mexican joints in LA.

I thought this little place was very good. I stopped by one morning when in the area because I was hankering for a chorizo and egg burrito. The burrito was better than expected, and I really like the salsa bar. Many different tasting salsas all of which were delicious. Will stop back again for lunch when in town.

Not sure why Amigos Tacos has a couple bad ratings, but when i went over there to kill time before hitting up the bars I was very pleased with the service there. Whichever gentlemen whom took my order also made sure I had everything i need. Judging by the place, it seems more like a «pick up your food» shack, but this gentlemen brought different types of hot sauce for me offered me to try some new item on the menu, when ever my water was empty he was QUICK to fill it right back up. I think that was very kind.
On top of that, the food here is pretty good, definitely a place to go to before going out and drinking yourself to death, and if you’re craving mexican food. Only thing that sucks is parking during the afternoon. Lame

2.5 stars. Amigo Tacos is good, not great. Expensive for what you get. Chorizo and Egg Burrito was REALLY greasy, but the tacos are good– I had both carne asada and carnitas. The tacos were a good size, they should be at $ 2 each, and plenty of salsa choices.

Thank you Amigos for being an… amigo, when I want tacos! Big clean open space, the guy manning the front is pretty friendly. He must be one of the Amigos?
Lots of burritos and taco combinations, including battered fish tacos, lengua, carnitas, carne asada, chicken, and marinated pork (similar to al pastor). Salsas include pico de gallo, habanero, chipotle, and salsa negra (?)
The meats are sometimes inconsistent in terms of flavor but in general are pretty decent. They are open very late, and early enough in the morning, and have decent prices. Thanks mi Amigos!

Was in the area and needed to grab some dinner. So I figured that I would come here for some tacos. Came in and it was dead. No one was there but the cook, the cashier and me. But they had the Yankees vs Tigers game on, so I thought it would be nice to dine with them.
I ended up going with three tacos this time. The carne asada tacos were awesome! The chicken tacos (shreaded I might add) were not. Their tacos do not come with cheese. So I highly recommend that you ask for some. (that is if you are a cheese lover like me)
They were quality tacos, but a little small in my opinion. With all of the topping that they put on the tacos, (salsa, cilantro, etc) they will fill you up.
I’ll come back and have more tacos soon! But only the asada ones.

My husband and I had been there once before and it was just OK, then last Friday, we went there again to give them another chance — well, this was a mistake. It was ~10’ish in the morning, they were not busy. We each ordered burritos, one was a carnitas burritos with beans and the order was for chile verde and beans (we opted for no rice). What we got was NO beans in the burritos and the chile verde was the worst I have EVER had and I am a pork guru. The meat was so hard like from being old and the sauce was like it came out of the garbage disposal. We have been to a couple other of these restaurants and they are marginal at best. They have a dynamite location and if they improve their food and serve fresh (instead of stale) chips, they would have the corner on the market for Mexican food in the South Bay. It’s like they plan on making money on the weekends when they stay open until 2:30 AM when the drunks come in when they leave the bars and won’t care what they eat. I wish them good luck!

I love their breakfast burritos but not worth the 30 minute wait to get it!

OK, at first this place was lucky to get 1 star. The guy doing the cash register had no idea what he was doing. I ordered the combo and he charged me for a burrito and chips and salsa. Adding over a dollar to my bill. Once I figured that out I was going to question it but the line was too long. There are not labels on the salsa. I dipped a carrot in the orange/​yellow one and ate it. OMG! SPICEY! No warning. Just ouchy! I went and cut in the front of the line and begged for my soda at that point. I think I lost 10 pounds with that one bite!
Then the burrito came out! I cannot describe it but it is the best burrito I have ever had! It was so moist and just melted in my mouth. I ordered the signature.
The meat was plenty. the flavors just perfect. My side of Chips and salsa.ugh.Not worth the 2.50 $ I paid.
I loved the carrots that were at the salsa bar.
SO I will definitely be back for a burrito. I will write off the cashier as a new opening.
