Specialties
Our goal is functional fitness. We hope you share that goal, and will allow us to work with you to achieve it. We teach fundamental movements according to the CrossFit methodology– you will learn to squat, lift, pull, row, and throw. Our workouts combine these skills into fun, high intensity training. Your body movement, strength and endurance will improve greatly, and your physical appearance will not be far behind.
History
Established in 2006.
CFSB was founded by Mariessa Marlow in 2006. She started with just a few clients training in a park with little to no equipment. The clientele steadily grew to where she could justify a small space in Lawndale, CA. In 2009 she partnered up with Forrest Jung and together they moved the operation to Hermosa Beach, CA. Today, CFSB has over 150 members ranging from elite athletes to retirees. All of the members are a part of a family all dedicated to improving their health and fitness. CFSB has added specialty programs for high school athletes, kids from 5 – 13 years old, endurance athletes and a master’s program. CFSB has built a team of dedicated and experienced coaches with specialties in Olympic weight lifting, nutrition, mobility, endurance and gymnastics. Their history of success is a direct result of their dedication to the success of every single athlete who walks through their door.
Meet the Business Owner
Forrest J.
Business Owner
I graduated from UCSB in 2002 and moved to Hermosa Beach to work for FedEx corporate sales. Four years later, I realized how miserable I was and switched careers to construction management. I was playing a lot of beach volleyball and trying every fitness craze under the sun. Then some friends introduced me to CrossFit. I started it on my own and in 24 Hour Fitness for about a year until I was fed up. I met Mariessa in 2008 and never looked back. Since then, I have quit my office job and focused building CrossFit South Bay. I have CrossFit level 1, nutrition, mobility, Olympic Lifting, and gymnastics certifications.
