they dont change lightbulbs which normally i dont mind since i normally use energy saving
however the ligtbulbs in the kitchen and the dinning room are this weird type!!!
each are $ 8.99
i have had to replace 5 since september and one more just went bad!!!
they are hard to find and hard to install!!! my husband had a hip replacement and he cannot do it
i really cant either so we have to pay someone to come every time.
i did not read this in the contract. either way i have no idea why they would choose lightbulbs so hard to change and so expensive!!!
the person i hire has charged me $ 30 each time to come and change it!!!
i changed one yesterday and again one went out today. i hate this place!!!
people in leasing just say «its my responsability»

These stars are only for the excellent experience we’ve had for the last 3 years with the maintenance guys and Joliet and Carlos in the leasing office!!! Apple, the previous assistant manager was also amazing but I don’t believe she’s there anymore.

I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I moved in a little over a month ago and I have been more than happy with everything. The parking gate has worked fine and I haven’t seen any towing. I don’t even think a tow truck could fit under the parking gate by itself, let alone with a car attached.
I absolutely love my floor plan. I have the Simplicity. I love the huge kitchen, built in desk/​hutch, alcove in the bedroom, and huge walk in closet attached to the bathroom. I have almost 1,000 square feet in a one bedroom for rent cheaper than anywhere else in the area. I also love the stainless appliances and granite. Additionally, there are so many cabinets and drawers in the kitchen — I have ton’s of pots and pans and gadgets and still plenty of extra space. You can really tell that when they were designing this place, they were doing so with resident comfort and practicality in mind.
Package delivery was my biggest concern before moving in here. Packages are either delivered to your front door, mailbox, or the front office. It’s a little annoying having to be there by 6 to get a package, but not the end of the world. The leasing office is open 7 days a week so they are sure to be open sometime when you’re free to swing by. Also, I have had packages at my door all day, but nobody bothered them or took them.
The trash is pretty easy — just put down the shoot and they also have recycling. Sometimes people just throw trash in the trash room and it piles up, but in the next 24 hours it is cleared up.
The hall ways smell kind of odd, but it’s not a big deal. It’s nice having the halls indoors. It keeps my place warmer without having my own heat up too high.
I would highly recommend this place. Very nice and pretty cheap.

I have been a tenant here for less than a year and there have been numerous issues with the management office and more specifically parking. You will pay $ 25 a month for a parking pass which they change every couple months and if you have the wrong pass you will get towed in the middle of the night with no warning; even though I had a vehicle parked in the gated garage without a pass for four months while the door to the garage was being fixed and never got towed… this means I paid $ 100 for nothing. They also don’t tell you anything about towing! No signs, no help… nothing. And for $ 180 dollars and an hour or your life… you can get your car back!
Additionally, the «gym» has not been available for 6 months. They make you pay for $ 15 flood lightbulbs when they burn out. The hallways smell terrible because people cook with doors open. The noise coming from the apartments above is like a 24 hour thunderstorm. In summation, do yourself a favor and don’t live here.

I’m being generous with one star… I currently live here and WILL not be renewing my lease. Let me just start with how awful and unprofessional the manager, Megan is. I was a bit perturbed to come out Monday morning to find my car towed after I pay rent AND pay the $ 25 parking fee… And this was because I didn’t switch out my sticker, is that a joke. She claimed the new stickers were a ploy to prevent fraudulent parking but this isn’t DC, it’s Herndon. Not only that, there is no VISIBLE sign as to where your vehicle is even towed to. It’s basically a scheme with the towing company to drum up more money.
But let’s talk about all of the other issues on top of the fact that you can be towed as a paying resident (mind you, she claimed 5 notices were allocated which is completely false). The fire alarm constantly goes off in the middle of the night when you have work the next day which is super fun.
The door to enter our building does not even lock anymore (hasn’t since the 2^nd month we moved in) which means anybody can just walk off of the street into our building.
Oh and the garage door didn’t even close for a good 5 months and in that time they didn’t tow a car that I had been monitoring the whole time that sat there, with NO STICKER.

I have lived at the Ashton for over a year. This place deserves all the stars and praises possible.
The apartments are very nice, spacious, and modern looking. New appliances, nice carpet, the works. The community is nice and closed off so that outsiders can’t access our amenities. No one wants a freeloader to roam in and use our facilities, pools, and other amenities that are only meant for tenants.
Like ANY OTHER apartment out there, their hours of operation are very similar. I have never had an issue with communicating with the office staff. They are very helpful and do their best to keep their TENANTS happy. If you are unable to make it into the office due to other priorities, they will do their best to accommodate you.
They have ample parking for both tenants and guests. Tenants park in a securely gated garage where only tenants who have the garage key are able to enter. I have never had an issue. In fact, I have seen the tow truck come around to ensure that all cars are parked properly. This shows me that our community is kept well. There are visible signs that specify where guests can park. These signs also reflect that guest need a parking permit. So if your guest can’t read… I suggest they park elsewhere. If you expect to have guest coming to visit, the right thing to do would be to plan ahead of time and obtain a parking permit a day or so prior to having your guest come. There are plenty of street parking around the complex as well. These spaces are directly in front of the apartment building and do not require a parking permit. In the event where your guest gets towed, such as a dumb guest of mine… I contacted the office staff and they directed me to who we should call. It’s not the office’s fault that my friend’s car got towed but they still assisted nonetheless.
The office management team often host events and fun activities for their tenants. The office staff knows most, if not all, of their tenants by name. Their level of customer service is outstanding. They are always friendly, smiling, and definitely welcoming. I call this place home and to have a staff that actively supports and interacts with the tenants, what more can you ask for?

This place doesn’t even deserve one star. The office hours aren’t accommodating to a working professional and they don’t have their advertised safety amenities. Their door that is supposed to be securely locked and only opened by residents doesn’t work and they also have the parking garage gate open all hours so your car is not in a secure location. Additionally, their free one day guest parking is always full so when your guests visit and the office is closed they have no option but to park illegally and they get towed. Sadly, they don’t even know where there car gets towed to because the signs in the parking lot dont even advertise their towing company. After your guest gets towed their customer service is below average, the employee named Apple doesn’t offer any help and has very poor manners towards her tenants.
I would never recommend living here until they fix the security amenities, have better office hours and good parking services.

First I would like to say I do not work for the company or have any personal relationships with anyone in management or the leasing office… With that being said, my fiancé and I have been living here since November 2014 and you will not find another apartment community in the area that gives you the space and convenience for a great price.
This place has great amenities and upscale living for an affordable price. I have read other reviews and some of which are true but I have not experienced anything that warrants not giving this place a chance. Examples: The fire alarms have went off quite a bit this winter and it has been very annoying and inconvenient, but not so much to the point where I’m ready to up and move. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that my safety is in jeopardy because when there was an actual fire, the fire alarm DID go off and alert anyone who was home. I happened to be home that day.
The maintenance guys are awesome. If you put in a request they usually fix the issue within 24 – 48 hours. Carlos greets us by name which makes a trip to the office very pleasant. And I happened to meet the manager Meghan this morning and she was also very nice. She assisted her leasing staff and she interacted well with tenants and prospective tenants.
Bottom line is yes there are issues bound to arise with any apartment community. They are inevitable, whether it be management or tenants. But what you get from the Ashton is large nice apartments, affordable prices, staff that treat you nice (even if they are pretending) quick maintenance turnaround and quiet peaceful grounds. I have never seen a roach or spider. Recently had some ants but pest control comes on Tuesday and treat at your request. We will be transferring into a larger 3 bedroom in a couple of weeks and Meghan and leasing staff has made it an easy transition and we didn’t have to pay an arm and a leg to transfer. Basically the good outweighs the bad here so I recommend giving The Ashton a chance.

Hey Courtney P… glad too see management making their own posts… lol. I have to agree with Rebecca about the constant fire alarms in this place. This has been an issue for years yet never seems to be fixed.
As for the employees… yes the front office guys are nice. Manager… not so much. I can’t tell you the number of times I have walked in the office and heard people trying to complain about serious issues only to watch the manager roll her eyes as soon as they leave. real professional. Or the number of times I have heard people complain that the manager has not responded to their concerns.
But on to the real issue with this place… the complete lack of maintenance. Garage doors that are constantly broken, secure doors that NEVER lock, cracking ceilings, paint chipped off of walls EVERYWHERE, hallway carpet with stains, garbage all over the parking deck and surrounding grounds. For a place honestly not that old. it needs one massive overhaul.
Overpriced. Make sure you take a closer look and actually walk around before you sign the lease.

How can I give this place ZERO or negative stars. BEWARE — fire alarms go off constantly in the winter bc pipes freeze and trigger the alarms due to water pressure changes.
The bigger problem??? A fire just occurred in the building (big enough for the sprinklers to go off in the unit with the fire) but funny enough the master alarm in the building did not go off, why? oh that’s b/​c maintenance/​management has the alarms shut off until we get past the winter months to avoid the false alarms for water pressure. When an apartment does this they are required to have ²⁴⁄₇ patrol for fire watch — they hired someone to patrol a year or two ago when this occurred but this time, NO ONE IS PATROLLING! Your safety, no let me rephrase, YOUR LIFE is in danger living here.
Dare to complain to Megan the new manager??? guess what she will literally laugh in your face and even better LIE straight faced to a Fire Marshal (a Federal Official honey so watch yourself).
This is our home and unfortunately we are not safe living here — do yourself a favor and do not even consider living here. The positive reviews written here cease to be positive when you consider your life is in danger living here and you have an unprofessional «Manager» who is willing to mock her tenants when they complain about their legit safety concerns and ILLEGAL management of their fire system.

I’m living here for a long time now. And I love this community. The appliances, amenities, maintenance service, staff, neighborhood, security system I mean you name it … Everything is perfect. Apt feels like you are living in your own home. May be the prices are high but you get what u paid for so its worth for every penny. My special thanks to maintenance staff. They are so helpful.

Apple is simply the best. I used to live at the Ashton from 2009 – 2012 but moved due to personal issues. During my stay, she was always super helpful and went out of her to way to accommodate anything I needed.
Today, I was walking my poor puppy and didn’t realize how hot it had become out. He was starting struggle on the way back and I was still a ways away from home. I stopped in at the Ashton as it was the only place nearby I could think of. Apple got water for my poor pup and allowed us to stay in the A/​C until he cooled off. I miss the people at the Ashton. ;)

My husband and I have lived here for several months now, we have a one bedroom/​den apartment. Before we signed our lease, we read a lot of negative reviews, so we were nervous, however we signed the lease and decided to take the chance, since it’s close to my work. We have been absolutely happy here. We have had no issues at all or if we did, they were resolved quickly.
Of the issues we had, we did find a mouse within the first few weeks, but that was taken seriously and taken care of by the ashton team immediately. We had a sink clogged, and within a day, they came up to resolve it. Whenever we need guest passes and we aren’t home, the team graciously drops it off for us at our door.
There has always been plenty of parking, neighbors are all nice and friendly, it’s always quiet, the area is nice and safe, it’s very pet friendly, the staff and management team are all nice and responsive, we are always notified when we have packages, pest control routinely comes and checks, maintenance responds within 24 – 48 hours and overall this has been a wonderful place, we are so happy to call the ashton our first home together. I highly recommend this complex, I’m really looking forward to using the pool in the next few weeks and spending the next year here.

Don’t waste your money. In a nutshell this place sucks, I would know I currently live here. The ashton is completely overpriced for how the complex is maintained. First off, I moved in with my boyfriend in March of this year, we moved in on the first floor and the night we moved in we notice our back door didn’t lock. YEP! So the next morning, I went down to the leasing office and told them. John said they would have it fixed that day and apologized. A week and half later, we have heard nothing from them. So, my boyfriend had to borrow tools from a friend to do it himself. They are lucky I live with him or I would have raised HELL. It took a month to finally get our dishwasher fixed. I have a whole new appreciation for dishwashers now after having to do them by hand for a month. One cabinet in the kitchen randomly decides to break from time to time. Told them about that also. Still waiting for them to come fix it. However, they don’t mind taking our money each month. Save your money, stress and anger and don’t rent here. March hurry up please ! :(

first and foremost — i currently live here, and with some major changes, i will be renewing my lease.
I have a few issues which are continuous and never seem to be addressed.
The fire alarm is CONSTANTLY going off — not to alert us of a fire, but to alert us the batteries need changed, or something else — but it emits a shrill high pitched noise that is almost deafening.
The trash room is disgusting, i actually saw a 6 – 8 inch long rat running around in it once.
The parking garage never has any parking — i see a lot of the residents park on the first floor, then take the stairs to upper levels — that’s not okay. The stairs also have no lights and are extremely sketchy at night.
The walls are paper thin — i can hear EVERYTHING (and i do mean, the «dirty» and all!)
The water never gets steaming hot, it’s always luke warm
The bugs are ridiculous. Quarter sized spiders and dozens of nasty little worms
Some of the girls in the leasing office are REALLY nice, they all know me and know of my online shopping addiction because i’m in there weekly to retrieve packages — but the property manager is less than friendly.
I call several times a week to report the fire alarm going off — it’s annoying, and i can not sleep with a high pitched noise in my ear. I would have thought the property manager would take the time to call me and apologize, and let me know what she can do to help solve the problem — but nothing. She won’t even talk to me when i try and talk to her in the office. I find that really unprofessional.
Should these issues be resolved, i will renew my lease and probably recommend people to live here.
The rent isn’t ridiculous. $ 1350/​month for a pretty large one bedroom with a huge bathroom and giant walk in closet. the amenities are nice. it’s just everything else that makes it hard to justify the cost.
