Sheraton Herndon Dulles Airport Hotel

Nice rooms. Courteous desk staff. Service in the bar/​lounge is slow and indifferent. The bartender said they were closed. 15 minutes later some girl he knew showed up and he served her. She didn’t seem to pay for her drink, so maybe the register was closed but not the bottles.

This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The hallways carpets were very dirty. Our room smelled so bad and there were stains in the bed.
The staff were unfriendly and careless. I booked two rooms and I asked for a late check out for at least one of the rooms. He said, «Sorry sir we sold out.» By the way if you asked them to do anything the answer will be sorry we sold out. This will be my first and last time here.

My husband travels a lot. He is ‘switching’ from another brand name (I won’t name it here) to Sheraton now!

I have stayed in Sheraton hotels across the world and this location is undoubtedly the worst. My significant other and I arrived at the hotel for check-​in only to be told our room was not ready. Okay, no problem. We went out to eat, came back and our room was ready for us and due to the wait they comped our wifi, which would have been a whopping $ 10.00 for only one night. Bullet dodged. Upon returning home after our stay, I realized I forgot my iPhone charger so I called the hotel thinking it would be no problem mailing it to me like every other hotel when an item has been left. Apparently things were not that simple. The front desk receptionist asks me for my credit card information over the phone so that they can send the charger and charge any shipping fees to my account. I explained that I did not feel comfortable simply leaving my credit card information with no confirmation of shipment especially when it could simply be shipped regular mail, no charge as other hotels do. She told me she was unable to assist me further and would have her front desk manager give me a call. No call was placed to me. I called two days later and spoke with the front desk manager and explained the same issue to him. He told me he was busy with customers at the front desk and that he would forward me to his voicemail and to leave my mailing address there. I did as instructed. A few days later I received a call and subsequent voicemail stating that FedEx was $ 40 to ship from Herndon to DC and so he put my charger in an envelope and dropped it in the mail. It has been over a week and I still have yet to receive it. I have left items at hotels before and never had to jump through hoops like this to get said items returned to me. Not to mention the poor demeanor of the vast majority of front desk staff. What an awful experience this has been.

I’ve only been here for less than two hours but can honestly say this is one of the worst Sheraton properties I have ever been in.
Start with the cracked and flaking ceiling in the shower.
Move on to the pool that is only open from 5 until 10 on Thursday through Sunday.
TV in the Club Lounge? No signal to it.
The final thing that pushed me to write? Today is Tuesday but all the newspapers in the lounge are the Monday edition!
They are not even trying.
Do I really have to even give it one star?

Working in the service industry, I can see that the hospitality and service that I got in the morning needs a lot of improvement. Unaware of whether breakfast was free for guests, my friends and I asked an employee, which she promptly answered yes. After sitting down with our food thinking it was free was when another employee came up to us to tell us we would have to pay for our food without a voucher. We told him that we were told otherwise, that our breakfast was free, but he asked for our room # to charge us over $ 15 each for the food. He then brought a manager over, only to tell us that we would have to pay for our food as well, saying the employee told us about the vouchers, which was not the case. She asked us if we wanted to talk to her again to get the story straight instead of resolving the situation, so Anna went to grab her, but never returned so I had to chase her down because I was short on time. She said that if I couldn’t wait, she will just find out our room # from the front desk and charge us. Even when I asked what her name was, she told me that I had to wait, even to get her name! I decided to find out by going to the front desk, which was when she finally made time to tell us her name, Anna Lindenal, and that we won’t be charged. Will not be coming back here anytime soon unless changes are made.

Just left the bar/​restaurant. Was there all of 7 minutes. It was maybe 6 people at the bar and «moe» the bartender had the personality of a rock. My friend order A tequila shot, that was priced $ 9 in the drink book, but Mor charged him $ 10. I ordered a drink and he forgot what I wanted after 2 minutes so I decided on water. We have stayed at this hotel often, this visit to the bar was unexceptionable. The stars are for the bar Not the hotel

The only reason I booked a room at this location was that it was cheap. This should be the only reason you book at this location. Everything about this hotel reeks in many regards. First off, the location is bad. As soon as I arrived I asked, «What’s good to eat around here?» The receptionists response was, «Papa Johns or Dominos.» Wow, what’s that? Never heard of it!
The staff was horrible, except for a young blond girl. She was, at the very least, polite. Every other single person at the receptionist desk was absolutely rude. I made a request to have one of my key cards deactivated because I lost my wallet. The receptionist responded in a sassy tone, «Why did you lose your wallet?» I don’t know, I just felt very forgetful today and decided to lose it!” Additionally, my air conditioner broke and my room was too hot to sleep in. I go down to a different receptionist who also gave me sass for the air conditioner breaking in my room! Her response when I told her my room is too hot, «It’s cold outside, why do you want it to be cold in your room?»,“Try sleeping on top of the covers.” Hilarious! All the staff members are practicing comedians apparently! HAHAHA!
I finally begged her to give me a new room and she let me into another one hesitantly to look and see it. There was a medium size spill stain on the comforter. I didn’t ask what it was, I just left to go sleep on top of my comforters in the desert room I was staying in.
The carpets in the entire hotel look like they have been repeatedly peed and pooped on by animals. There are stains everywhere on the floor. Their gym has only two working treadmills, and the 50b dumbbells are missing. Their pool is currently «under construction.» When I looked into the room, there was no construction going on.
The shower is nice. That’s probably the only one thing I liked about the hotel. However the bad heavily outweighs the good in this situation.
You couldn’t pay me to stay at this hotel again.

Second time staying here. The only reason I stayed here again is because of the good price. Cons: The outlet next to the bed did not work. Smell of cleaning supplies was a constant. No free breakfast. It would be nice if they spent some time updating the rooms. Feels very old. Pros: comfortable bed, good water pressure and water temperature. Price is reasonable. This is not my first choice, as there are several hotels around the Sherston that are updated and just overall nicer with free breakfast.

What the hotel lacks in amenities and open pool which has been closed far too long, it makes up by hiring competent staff that goes out of their way to make it all better. Funny smelling hallways wtc. Clean rooms and good food.

So I’ve stayed here dozens of times so I will justify what makes it a five star rating in my
Opinion. Starwood has a category system for their properties. This Sheraton is a lowly Category 2 which may be confusing as many Sheratons follow a similar design standard as well as how they furnish their rooms. So the rating system does not have too much to do about the quality of the rooms. So if you are a SPG member it’s very easy to earn free rooms here. So for value and cleanliness this hotel is great. The food at the restaurant is also a great value. Service can be spotty at times but for the most part this hotel exceeds what you pay for compared to other properties. They do offer a club lounge during the week as well as internet access.

Just stayed here after booking with
. We had an excellent room on their «club level» which was well worth the extra bucks. It came with free wifi & two vouchers for free appetizers. The staff were great & the room was clean with a beautiful view of the Herndon area. I’ll definitely be back!

Check in 08÷06− Check Out ⁰⁸⁄₀₉
We had a really bad experience at this property.
Day 1 — We got Room 512 — the locks, phone were not working. We complained about it at 5.00 pm — when we returned to our rooms after midnight — our key cards didn’t work any more, the receptionist cut us another card that didn’t work — finally they let us in with the master card and moved us to another room at 1.00 AM
Day 2 — housekeeping didn’t clean our room. They moved us at midnight again (3 painful moves in all)
Check in 08÷12− Check Out ⁰⁸⁄₁₃ — We were given room 512 (again) — sure enough locks were still not working — we were moved to room 208 — when my husband went in to use the bathroom door the bathroom knob broke… we let the hotel front desk know — they offered us 2 $ 10 vouchers for Appetizers at their restaurant which we refused and returned — we were checking in at 6.00 PM that day and checking out at 4.00 AM EST the next day (we made one room move and the 2^nd room had a broken door knob — SO FRUSTRATING !!!
The one star is for the smiling hotel reps (Marion and Brian) who tried to help us through all the travails. Next vacation definitely won’t be my hotel choice

This was our first time staying at the Sheraton. Normally stay at the Hyatt next door but had a bad experience there last year with no follow up. The Sheraton is clean, affordable, comfortable and close to the airport. The food is pretty good and the pool is always a hit with my girls. The staff this morning upon leaving was so helpful and apologetic about the mishap last year. When I booked this hotel, I specifically booked a room that included breakfast. Those are the floors 6 and above. We were on 2. No problem at all! No questions asked! I drive up from Charlottesville when I travel and will stay at the Sheraton going forward! Thank you to all the staff! It really is the little things

This is quite a nice hotel, but the overall level of customer care and experience really distracted me from enjoying it. The rooms are clean and nice, but the overall feel is very cheap — as though you’re getting nickel and dimed at any possible point. They charge their paying guests a fee for nearly all amenities outside of just staying in the room itself (which you have fully paid for). Want to make a call on the in-​room phone? There’s a fee, even for local calls. Want a bottle of water? Fee. Wifi? Fee. There was even a fee for the morning breakfast which was served in a style very reminiscent of the free continental breakfast served at many much less nicer looking hotels across the country. And it was not at a cost befitting the quality. After checking in, we were told of the breakfast by the clerk… But she left the fee out of the conversation. We spoke with the front desk again after being charged for the breakfast but he stated that he couldn’t do anything for us and would bring it up to management. I never used the TV; I was too afraid there would be some sort of fee for that as well. He did state that most of the fees were waived if you were a member of their VIP program.
No thanks. I’ll just stay at another hotel next time, where they will likely treat me as good as any other paying guess not because I am a VIP, but because I am exactly that: a guest at their hotel.

I stayed here from 4÷30−5÷4÷15:
The location was very conveniently located from the airport so it made it very easy to find and I didn’t have to stress out about missing my flight. Although my flight didn’t leave until 7 PM any way.
The check-​in process was quick and simple. Showed the guy at the counter my ID and gave him my credit card for any incidentals and I was in my room in less than five minutes.
My room was a nice size and I had a pretty view of the blossoming trees. The king size bed was nice & comfortable and the room was clean. Shower head worked well, water pressure is very important to me because I hate to shower with low water pressure. It just takes forever! Although the carpet could use some updating.
My biggest peet peeve was that it seemed like the walls and ceilings were super thin or something. I could hear almost everything that the people beside me were doing. I think the people above me were moving the bed around or vacuuming at 4 AM every freaking night I was staying there. So annoying!
Good thing I didn’t have an actual schedule because I would’ve been really pissed off.
The check out process was just as easy. It took about five minutes as well. I told the guy that I drank both the free bottle and the $ 4 bottle of water in the room, and asked him to add it to my room total and he says «don’t worry it!» I guess I must REALLY be on a free drink tour. LOL
Overall, the hotel is reasonably priced, conveniently located, clean, comfortable and has a nice shower. It meets my criteria for a hotel room since I only need a room for two purposes, sleep and shower!

I had a last minute stay booked at the sheraton herndon, and I was pleased that it was close to the airport, relatively inexpensive, and easy to book as I had called them for available rooms just before midnight.
I am a starwood platinum member and was pleased to be upgraded to a bigger room. the room itself was fairly standard, a king bed with a tv, coffee maker, and okay bathroom. it felt clean, but the amenities definitely met my general expectations. i got there after midnight, but unfortunately there were no available snacks in the club lounge, as sometimes it’s nice to have fresh fruit or crackers. i did not receive my standard platinum gift upon arrival, but i am sure if i call and ask it will be granted to me.
the hotel offers a free shuttle to the airport every half hour, and it arrived at exactly 6:29 AM and got us to the airport quickly. this was a major convenience factor that i appreciated.

Pros:
Reasonably priced, this hotel has been through a significant renovation. It’s comparatively much better than most Sheratons
Nice club lounge, with good breakfast
Cons:
Location kind of sucks, its near the airport, so that can be good or bad
No snacks in the lounge is kind of a bummer
Overall, nice stay if your near the airport or in that area.

I don’t have real high expectations of hotels at least when I’m on business travel. I look for a clean, comfortable and secure room at a reasonable price. If you meet that standard, you get four stars from me. Throw in some nice amenities, maybe you get a 5. The Sheraton Herndon Dulles Airport does a passable job at most of those things except for 2 key areas that really hurt this hotel’s score.
First, and of secondary importance — a minor issue. The breakfast sucks. There is no sit down restaurant at this hotel — only a bar area. In the mornings, this open bar area in the lobby becomes a breakfast buffet. At standard hotel breakfast pricing, you get a sub-​standard offering. This, in and of itself isn’t a big deal at most hotels — but at this particular Sheraton, buried deep inside an office park near Dulles Airport — there are no other restaurant options in the area. If you’re in a hurry and need a quick bite — this relatively expensive but crappy buffet is your only real option. Given this demographic reality, this hotel NEEDS to do a better job at this.
Second, and more importantly, the beds suck. Not just minor irritation suck — its more a you’re not gonna get a good night’s sleep if you get any sleep at all kinda suck. That’s not good under any circumstances — but especially when you’re there for work and the only respite you have is your bed. This is very ununsual for Sheraton properties. I’m usually very happy with their Sweet Sleeper offerings and single out Sheraton’s as my primary choice in most markets. This one misses the mark.
The Dulles area has a lot of hotel offerings across many price ranges. Would recommend something other than the Sheraton Herndon Dulles Airport Hotel.

From the moment I checked in until the joyous moment I finally checked out, this place was a complete nightmare!
I got a deal on
, that is the main reason I decided to go with this hotel. A pool with a whirlpool, a mini-​fridge, and complimentary internet service in the common areas sealed the deal for me.
Upon arrival I was told that my credit card was needed with ID for check-​in; for identification purposes. Okay no problem. Quickly thereafter the concierge told me that I didn’t have enough funds on my card. I was confused as I had already paid for the room for the weekend. She then explained that I needed to put down a $ 50/​night deposit for the rooms. I told her I had heard nothing of this, that it wasn’t listed on
to which she rudely said, «Oh well, it’s on OUR website and I won’t check you in without it.» Luckily I had the cash on me to cover it but needless to say I was perturbed.
After the deposit issue was «resolved» I was given keys to my room. It seemed fine with the requested mini-​fridge however the television and remote sensor didn’t work. If you moved anymore than 10 inches from the television the remote didn’t work. We called down to get another remote and after two more calls and two hours I finally walked down to the lobby to get one. The concierge worker was chit-​chatting on the phone and seemed oblivious to my concern. The new remote didn’t work either. An engineer was sent up to my room and he confirmed that the television was not working properly and we moved to another room (Room #2).
This second room was identical except the television worked properly. The engineer moved our mini-​fridge as well as gave us two sodas from a machine.
We thought all was well as we kicked back to relax. Wrong!
I noticed a red blotch on the corner of my pillow case and made note of it but thought it was just an innocuous stain. This would’ve been fine however when we pulled back the sheets there were more red (blood looking) stains on the sheets and upon further inspection on the bed skirt — see the pictures I uploaded!
We went back down the front desk and complained. I asked to see a manager and he moved us to another room (Room #3) and promised to reimburse me for that night’s stay.
The third room was as the other two, except there were no toiletries in it (we didn’t even have the effort to complain), and we moved the mini-​fridge ourselves to the new room (forget waiting for them!) and we hunkered down.
I went to enjoy the «whirlpool» but it turned out to be just a hot pool of water. The jets weren’t working, surprise surprise and the main pool had a strange film on top of the water.
And as for the free Wi-​Fi, we never managed to find it or get a straight answer on how to obtain it. There was a pitiful excuse for a business center located directly in front of the elevators and front door. It’s just two computers that you can use but feel free to have other guests looking over your shoulder as you check your email.
The next day I had a guest meeting me at my hotel. We agreed to meet in the lobby. I was away at the airport and he arrived before I got back to the hotel. I had been calling the hotel to see if I had any guests arrive and told them to take a message if someone did come for me.
When I arrived back I found out that the front desk had given my guest A KEY CARD TO MY ROOM, without my consent and sent him up to check if I was available.
This is unacceptable in every manner. Where did my right to privacy go? What about the security of my room and all things contained within? Who the h-​e-​double hockey sticks do they think they are to freely give out key cards to MY room unauthorized?!
I immediately went to the manager to have a talk/​tongue lashing about the security breach but he wasn’t there. The assistant manager on duty offered me a complimentary appetizer as an apology to the situation. No, your silver-​dollar size crab cakes won’t make me forget you gave a STRANGER my ROOM KEY without MY PERMISSION. He promised that he had sent the manager an email explaining what had happened and that he’d be getting back to me. When I called the manager myself today he said he had heard nothing of the such. I’m now in limbo waiting not only for the reimbursement of the promised night (it’s never been refunded yet) and how they are going to account for their gross negligence in my room security.

All in all for a four star hotel, I’d give this four thumbs down.
