Auto Wrench

What an amazing experience I had today at Auto Wrench today, I don’t think I will forget about it. John the owner is a straight shooter, he’s no bs, truth with side of honesty best describes him in my opinion. A true example of how a modern day small business owner should be. Only repairs with quality parts, and he only charges for the time he works no 1 hour minimum. HIGHLY I recommend u get your car repaired here. I will probably start driving all the way from Costa Mesa for the honesty and righteousness I had the good fortune to experience this evening. Go here. Go here. Go here! lol you’ll thank me for it.

I’ve owned 2 cars within the last 11 years, both of which have been repaired by Autowrench. Oil changes, brakes, and the usual maintenance repairs have been done by their mechanics. If there’s anything you want checked, they won’t charge you just to look at it. And they tell you if there’s something wrong or not. My first car actually got extensive repairs done CORRECTLY and thoroughly by this place the first time after I got into an accident and the place I was recommended to by my insurance (so I would still be covered for the costs) royally screwed me over several times (you can read about my sister and I’s experience with the other place here:

Pros:
–honesty and fair pricing (John has actually given me two price options on repairs outside of oil changes and doesn’t pressure you on which to choose, or even to get the job done after giving you the explanation and estimate)
–family-​run and owned (and there’s a reason they’ve been voted Best in the Desert for nearly a decade – apologies I forgot the exact number, but it is something to brag about!)
–no storage fees (I did have to take advantage of this when I had to work out of town for several days and couldn’t immediately clear my schedule while my car got repaired)
–Ladies, feel free to bring your car in by yourself and wait there or have someone pick you up. I have been a patron since I was 18, bring my car in unaccompanied nearly every time, and have never been talked down to, made fun of, treated like I don’t know what I’m talking about, etc. They listen to your explanation if you’re giving one, and John is more than happy (and quick!) to answer questions you may have. He’s not afraid to consult his mechanics for confirmation either, since they each specialize in different cars.
–The lobby/​waiting area is decorated with thank you cards from over the years. John has interesting and entertaining stories for nearly anything hanging up in there.
–explanation on any repairs your car needs, whether it’s while you’re there or what to look out for at a certain point. For example if you ask them what repairs are recommended when your car hits a certain mileage point, they’ll tell you. I once took my car somewhere else for an oil change for time and convenience sake (out of town, long-​story-​short), and they suddenly had a slew of «repairs» my car needed; my car at the time barely had 30,000 miles on it and the repairs they were suggesting weren’t necessary until my car had booked another 30,000 or even 60,000 miles on it!
–I once spoke with a patron that drives their car from the San Diego area because they trust them that much!
–outside of a recent due repair, I never have to wait for too long. I always arrive with a book just in case, and if it’s going to be a while, John warns you up front so you can arrange a ride if you wish.
–if you ever do wait in the lobby however, John has story after story about the High Desert and his own life, or just life in general.
–you can always ask about other shops he could recommend to you, especially in the High Desert, and he’s not offended. I lived near Newport Beach for a while, and one of his mechanics was able to recommend a shop closer to me when a schedule conflict prevented me from driving up to Autowrench. And no, this was not the shop mentioned above that had a list of suggested repairs for me.
Cons:
–if you’re not an early bird or morning person, manage it for when you take your car in. They strongly suggest bringing your car in first thing, even if it’s just for an oil change. The sooner they can get started on it the better (if anything you can have someone drive you back home so you can sleep for a while). Look at it this way: you have the rest of the day knowing you got something off your checklist!
–not open on weekends. I’ve honestly never been bothered by this, but just a heads-​up for those who are used to places that are. Personally it makes me happy they have a semi-​normal schedule!
Consider Autowrench next time your car needs a little TLC. I no longer live nearby like I did years ago, but the drive to take my car in is totally worth it knowing I’m going to get my car taken care of properly and worry-​free.

I’m sad to say, John will have one of the two «master» mechanics fix your vehicle…
then a few days later… a few weeks later… maybe even a month later, something three times more expensive mysteriously breaks and absolutely needs to be fixed or, your told you should just sell your vehicle…“OR” buy one of the ones now miraculously parked right at the exit as you leave… scratching your head wondering how convenient… or…wow, what a coincidenced? Well I don’t believe in coincide, so I’ll just say BE CAREFUL! I took a vehicle here to Auto Wrench to have the vehicle completely checked before purchase, it went off without a hitch! Not two weeks later I have a leak…$ 1100.00 later it’s «fixed» then shortly after $ 980.00 repair is made and now I still have the leak… but was quoted $ 3500.00 for this «NEW» leak. Well I’m not buying it… and I will never return to good olé charismatic Mr. Auto Wrench. The vehicle has been well maintained, it has relatively low miles for the year it is and it runs great! But I guess I’m just an idiot that will take the advice of the mechanic who said…“get it fixed or sell it”. I fixed it myself, I had a hose with a small prick in it, replaced it, no more leak, $ 3500.00 still in the bank! I’m not saying don’t give this place a try, but please do your own due diligence before they start running their mouths with all the scare tactics. Just my two cents… be careful when the «NEW» repairs needed start piling up… be careful.

I have had over 25 years of service with Auto Wrench in Hesperia, and I am extremely happy with the service I get from this shop. I had to move out of the area, and I have yet to find a shop in my area with the same quality of work and integrity. Anytime, I can use the services of this shop, or the people they refer you to (Transmissions, Exhausts, etc), I will choose Auto-​wrench! On the rare occasion there is a problem or concern it will be met with the best results and service that will resolve the problem and everything will be as ‘right as rain’.

My #1 choice for auto repair. John and his crew of mechanics have always treated me right. Fair prices and honest service has always been my experience at Auto Wrench. I recommend them to my friends and family for all their service needs.

I went to this shop after moving to the area and seeing that it was listed as one of the best in the high desert. The first time I took my car in I talked with one of the mechanics as the owner was out. The mechanic guy treated me with the oh silly girls don’t know anything about cars but when I came back to pick up my car the owner was very nice and didn’t treat me that way at all so I thought I’d give them another chance. I shouldn’t have because the next time I brought it in the owner was talking to me and said that the desert was a really nice place before the «blacks and browns» moved in. Needless to say I will not be going back.

another victim of «Alfred F.» Ive ben towing for over 15 years in the high desert and never had Simone talk to and treat me the way he did. Ive never herd anything bad about Auto Wrench and have taken many cars there everyone Ive talked to has been very happy. Keep up the good work!

Update on Auto Wrench: Took spouse’s 09 Corolla in for service. Minimal wait for brakes and trans. service, fair prices and all OEM parts. To «Alfred F.» if your disgruntled and unhappy, you should leave your rather miserable rants separate from my comments. This is America, if ya don’t like them, don’t go there. FYI «Alfred», I have know John the owner for well over 25 years, and he’s got more ethics in his little finger than about 98% of the so called repair shops up here.
