History

Established in 1958.

Founded as the Catawba Co. Industrial Education Center, it was established to help transition the workforce from agricultural to industrial. In 1964, it became one of the first seven institutions chartered by the N.C. Community College System and was named Catawba Valley Technical Institute. It changed names again in 1979 to Catawba Valley Technical College and again in 1987 when the college transfer program was started.
