Established in 1980.

Two Barber/​Musicians needed a steady income so support their families in 1980. Together, they began Shear Magic Hair Care. Music lovers and sisters, Diane Setzer and Marilyn Blake bought the business in 2001 and have been running it ever since.

Shear Magic has taken care of generations of families in and around Hickory, NC with a focus on the Viewmont area. We have a real and lasting commitment with our clients that has stretched throughout the years.

When I was little, I used to cut all my dolls hair while keeping mine as long as possible. My aunt, bought me a doll in which I could curl and style her hair over and over.

I was blessed to have been guided into hairstyling as a career and doubly blessed to have the opportunity to be educated at the best beauty school in Detroit, MI just minutes from my home.

I moved to NC and became the manager of Regis Hairstylists which gave me a taste of what business ownership would be like. And I’ve never looked back.

My sister and I run an honest, fun, and comfortable beauty salon with some of the kindest people you have ever met. We get compliments on how welcome people feel in the salon and how service isn’t only found in the stylists’ chair. We feel a familial bond with our customers and they look forward to their time in our salon.
