Veterinary Referral Hospital of Hickory

This review is based only on customer service. My sweet dog recently passed away at the Veterinary Hospital of Hickory. He was very sick with cancer unfortunately. We made the personal choice of having our boy cremated. The first time we came in to get him the girl working the desk said «Picking up or dropping off…» um neither. So then we had the awkward conversation of having to say we were there to pick up his ashes. After rummaging through the cabinets without finding him she said «Sorry we’re just so full right now.» Full of cremated animals? Our boy was not there yet as it takes a week which we did not know.
So the following week we returned to pick up his remains and the girl behind the counter didn’t say anything at all and then when she handed him to us she said «Here ya go.» Not a «sorry for your loss,» or «We’re thinking of you»… nothing. I just was sad and frustrated that there wasn’t a care in the world for how myself or my husband was feeling. We don’t have children so to us these pets are our kids and to be treated so nonchalantly was sad.

On Apr 19^th my service animal was hit and mortally wounded by (what i suspected to be) a drunk driver at 11:30PM. I immediately rushed my pup to VRHOH where the caring staff there rushed her into the back room and started to give her medical attention. I was soon there after informed that she was not going to make it. I had to made a very hard choice that night, but there was only once choice to make. The staff there went above and beyond for my baby and did everything possible for her. After the fact they did even more. I am eternally grateful for what they have done for her. I would prefer to not say what they did for my family, but it was the most considerate and compassionate thing that I have ever experienced from a group of strangers. Dr. Reames and her staff did everything humanly possible to aid me through this tragedy. I will never be able to thank them enough.
