I had dinner with my family today and we discovered a hair in one of the dishes. Rather than apologize and provide a complimentary meal, the owners and servers did not believe us and continued to show attitude! I am never coming back here and am rather disgusted by how they handled the situation. I understand the that places like these are pretty relaxed and homey but it was insane how little they cared about the hair. So disgusting and so unhygienic! If I could give zero stars I would!

4 stars for the Aloo Paratha! When served hot with yogurt it is so satisfying. It is a very large size perfect for sharing. Space/other offerings, 3 stars. I don’t enjoy the use of styrofoam use. I am not into Indian Sweets so can’t really rate that. The place is more of a to-go style.

Pretty decent food but the employees/owners are not friendly. The owners are normally around but seem not not really care to make that extra effort to know their customers. I’ve been there several times and would think that they would try to be friendlier but they seem to only take your order an move on. The other staff only follow what the owners set the tone for. In the whole the food is a little pricey for what it really is and not worth the money. They really need to rethink what about giving their patrons better customer service and better quality food. Service with a smile goes a long way.

Bengali sweets is an Indian restaurant which has a lot of great things going for it, but one needs to determine what you are looking for when coming here. Indian sweets are priced a bit high but there’s a wide selection. Despite the name, Bengali sweets appears to probably sell more savory foods than they do sweets. There’s a lot of competition in the immediate 2 block area, so these guys have to be good to make it work. I tried a few things over the course of the month here: Paneer Kati roll: excellent, a large flour roti packed with paneer and bell peppers inside with a nice amount of spicy masala Paneer tikka sandwich, terrible, very little paneer and pressed down using a sandwich grill to the point where the sandwich is super thin. The bread used is a white wonder bread type bread. came with fries that were edible but not impressive. Samosas: good Thali to go: decent, but the person serving it was really careful not to put too much. Clearly she was trained by the managers to not put too much in the dish. These guys need to be profitable, but for some reason this makes them feel really cheap. The food was also ice cold, I guess I’m supposed to heat it up, or microwave it at home. Paranthas: incredible, very large and well worth it Sitting down is an interesting paradox. They have a pitcher of water on the side, you pour your own water, it’s basically self service. There’s a sign however that indicates that if you come with 5 people or more and sit down, you should be tipping them 15%. I asked if a tip is expected if we sit down with less than 5 people, the lady didn’t really want to tell me either way. I didn’t understand the concept of tipping when there’s no waiter service, so I simply never sat down to eat here.

I am not a vegetarian. I do not aspire to become one. But… once in a while one should experience the other side. If you decide to do so– then this place is a great place to visit. I would describe this place as Indian«street food» — freshly prepared, fried but oh-so-delicious snack foods. Resembles food that you would get from street food stalls in northern India. Different types of stuffed parathas, plenty of chaats and thaalis. They have a Mumbai sandwich that comes with fries– great lunch option. Apparently weekend buffet which sounds inviting but have not tried as of yet. They also sell freshly prepared Indian sweets– best on Long Island hands down.

Food is not so good. Expensive. People behind the counter are purely money minded. thats it. This tells you about the quality of food. Got a chance to see how salads are made for sunday buffet and that was my last trip to the restaurant…

This place needs more likes. They have actively improved from being yet-another-vegetarian-snack-place to be *the* destination for a number of crave items. Their paranthas are just mind blowing. Start with the basic potato(aalu) paratha, then slowly move up to the other stuffings. The palak pudina and the papad paratha are where we have been stuck for the last several months. The parathas are huge, half a paratha should be a decent portion size, quarter if you look at calories :) The dhoklas are also awesome, though recently they have been tough to get — they run out fast. The samosas, particularly the big ones, are great to have when guests come over for tea. They were seriously lacking in the sweets department — shelf after shelf of wonderful looking sweets that had absolutely no taste. This is where they made the greatest improvement — perhaps they changed their«halwai» /sweets cook. The rasgullas and many of the dry and wet sweets are now pretty sweetly awesome. A shop that shows this dedication to improving over the status quo and strives to stand out deserves more love, attention, and second chances from us the consumer crowd.

been to this place a few times now. everything we have tried has been on point. the service is hit or miss depending on whos behind the counter. another thing, for some odd reason, the crowd that comes to this place is always weird. they give everyone a stare up and down. it was also a little quiet, no music no loud TV, so i guess everyone pays extra attention to the other customers. watch out if you dont like the«desi stare» you might get annoyed here.

Watch your wallet! Ordered a combination of sweets and got two thirds of the lower price sweets and got charged at the highest priced sweets per pound rate. This place is a complete and utter rip off!!! To add to the insult, you would think at least they could manage a smile while ripping you off, they can’t even do that. Apparently we should feel honored to be ripped off by them. I am of Indian descent and I am embarrassed for our culture if this is the first experience anyone has of our people and food.

The sweets and Parathas here are just too good. I did not try the thali or buffet. Ambience is OK, but obviously you are walking into a place with real low prices, so the expectation has to be in line and reasonable.

I just love this restaurant. It’s perfect for snacks and sweets. It’s clean too. I love everything there — Paranthas(mixed, mulli, onions etc), chole bature, pao bhaji etc. The best is papri chaat. Also their paranthas ka really huge so it serves 2. Their sweets are great too, specially chum chum

Extremely rude woman who runs this place. We went with a group of friends and 3 kids, ordered a lot of food, were having a great time and the kids had been sitting at the table playing on their phones. The restaurant was not even busy, we did not realize that the kids got up at some point and started running around. The woman came around clapped her hands loudly and shouted, KIDS this is a restaurant not a playground! We were all shocked at her outburst. Instead of asking or complaining to us, she shouted at kids. We decided to leave without tip and she had the audacity to come and ask for tip. We told her that you were extremely rude and do not deserve the tip. She kept mumbling and complaining. Never had such a horrible experience at any café/restaurant. Rajbhog is a much better place to go to!

What’s to like here: — tasty food at reasonable prices — good selection of Indian desserts and sweets — spacious — $ 5 lunch on weekdays(it’s surprisingly decent too) — Don’t come here for the ambiance or good service, you may get none. Decent Indian food and snacks? Yes.

They seriously need to improve the quality of food. Whatever we ordered was less than mediocre in quality. Chhole Bhature — Not good, Halwa Poori — Meh, buffet — nasty and unorganized. I seriously doubt I’ll be back.

This is my place when i am in the mood of indian breakfast. Their poori sabji and parathas are awesome. Its an all veg place and for once I love to just hog on to some good indian vegetarian food. Their buffet is good but has only few dishes so definitely there is room for improvement. The only annoying thing is the wait. Also the waitress is a bit rude which i can understand coz she is the only server. Also dealing with indian crowd well as we all know can be quite tricky. Try their bfast.

Went to the Bengali Sweet shop about two weeks ago. Pretty big place with lots of seating. I was in the area and saw sweet shop and ran in, Did not realize it was not really a candy store… It is a Indian food and sweet shop. I am not really into Indian food, But what the heck I tried some of the little sweets they had. They were pretty good, But not great. I do not know how the Indian food is there but it was busy the day i was there. The place was clean and the service was good.

If you’re looking for a $ 5.00 lunch, this is the place. For 5 bucks, you get about a pound of good tasting vegetarian food. I have no idea how to pronounce the names of the many and varied dishes. Some have eggplant, others have Legumes and still others feature different vegetables. All meals come with Indian Bread and rice. It’s cheap, the place is clean, the food tastes good. I left happy, well fed and didn’t need to take any Metamucil.

This place is primarily a sweet shop, which isn’t my thing. I popped in for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised that the food is pretty good and not expensive at all. The food is all vegetarian and stuff I can’t pronounce. I just asked them to give me their most popular dish. It was very good. My favorite part was the eggplant curry. There is nothing fancy about this place but it is a great value.
