Piedmont Environmental Center

This center is off of Penny road in High Point and not in Greensboro as another reviewer mentioned. It is natural preserve that is split into two areas, or the North Preserve and South Preserve.
The center itself is in the South Preserve. You can use their restrooms, get maps, etc here. Never been in. There are several trails to the right of the center with a map and key detailing the lengths. These are trails common to parks that go through wooded areas. They have roots etc and are no longer than .8 miles long. They are easy to walk in my opinion.
This side (South) is also the beginning/​end of the Bicentennial Greenway. I am more familiar with this greenway and can speak some about it.
If you want a tough trail to run or walk, then you have found it. The greenway as mentioned is split into North and South. They are separated by East Fork Road right near the entrance to Jamestown Golf Park. I would guess that the entire greenway is five miles within the preserve.
The greenway is paved and goes through wooded, swampy type scenery. There are mile markers that pop up every .25 miles. The South is close to a lake. It is completely serene and you wouldn’t know that it is close to the hubbub of Wendover to the north and Penny to the south. Quite frankly, you could have a stroke or something and not be found for days. It is that secluded. Yet perfect.
OK how hard is this greenway? Well, you better hope you are in shape. I usually get on it at Gibson Park and go south all the way to the center on Penny. According to the mile markers, this would be 3.5 ish miles one way. I will usually run this and then walk the 3.5 miles back. Although paved, it is slanted/​uneven, hilly, and isn’t for people who don’t walk/​run/​hike a lot. I never see many people on it and if I do, they are cross country runnner freaks who do this a lot. I can’t describe how tough this part of the greenway is for running. Hope your junk in the trunk and core are up for it. Otherwise, take your time. If you are one of those who want to train on hills etc for whatever reason, do it here.
I like the serenity and stuff and it is a great place to get away from life and people.

This place is a great gem in the city of Greensboro. It has a nice visitors center with restrooms if you need them. There are several trails that intertwine around a lake.
The longest is about 2miles, which if you’re a long distance runner it’s not too far. I like to run on the 2 mile trail a couple times to equal a nice 6 mile run but I have to be careful with the roots from the trees, they’ll definitely trip you if you’re not paying attention. The trail itself is pretty narrow as well.
This place is dog friendly too. All the people and dogs :-) are pretty friendly on the trail, if you’re running they’ll step out of the way and let you pass. The views are great too with the lake, a stream flowing in one spot and of course the great outdoors of wooded forested areas all over.

This place is run down, however, I think that adds to the magic and persona this place has… It is very private and feels so secluded. Great Trails for walking and moving about… A real place you can go and feel comfortable taking your children.

Easy to get to, but feels totally secluded. I really like the trails here, they are simple yet challenging for the average nature walker. kid and dog friendly. I took the white trail, which is the longest choice of the bunch. Recommended if you want to stay in the area but feel like you «got away».
