Established in 2009.

Mastodon was founded in 2009 by John Esteve Sr. and Joe Gallo. John and Joe met in a local deli in Vernon, NJ every morning for a number of years before heading to work. John was a Bronze Star Decorated Vietnam Veteran, Boy Scout Leader and Avid Sportsman. John had always thought about opening a little gun shop after he retired. Joe was a Fort Lee Police Officer also nearing his retirement. The two decided to open small a gun shop and give it a whirl. Through John and Joe’s efforts, Mastodon became a steadily growing operation, offering firearms, ammunition, repairs and fishing goods. Mastodon is becoming the place to go for firearms, including NJ Legal Modifications on AR15 type weapons.
