Phillipa was an absolute great teacher to work with as we were planning our first dance for our wedding! Not only did she teach us moves that we can use on any occasion, but she taught us how to best use these moves for our first dance. We would definitely recommend!

Are you not a dancer? Do you and your future husband have no dancing experience whatsoever? Then, Phillipa is for you! Phillipa did an AMAZING job working with my husband and I on our first dance. Not only is she extremely patient, but she is VERY professional and really loves working with all levels of dancers (inexperienced dancers included).
Phillipa met with my husband and I four different times. When she first told me that we would have an entire dance perfected in four sessions, I laughed. There was no way that my husband and I (two inexperienced dancers) would learn an entire routine in four sessions. She proved us wrong! Not only did we have our entire first dance perfected, but we had a blast each time we worked with her.
After each session, she typed out the lyrics to our wedding song (You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne) and the dance moves that went along with each line/​stanza. She doesn’t charge by the hour and spent as much time as we needed perfecting a particular dance move. She is extremely affordable and is flexible about meeting you for your dance lessons.
Our guests really loved our dance and could not believe how flawless our dance turned out. The first dance can be stressful, especially because you know all of the guests’ eyes will be on you (not to mention the videographer and the photographers). Having met with Phillipa to teach us our first dance helped alleviate some of this stress and we had a great time dancing the night away!
We would definitely recommend using Phillipa to help with your wedding dance!

JiveRoc is stellar. We used Phillipa to brush up our skills in dancing for a wedding and to jump start our son who was a beginner. Phillipa can teach anyone to dance. Her technique and teaching skills are what makes her stand out from «any other» dance studio or instructor.
She is patient and you will become confident in your dancing skills after the first lesson. Do not procrastinate — you will stand taller and feel so much more confident after learning how to dance. I would recommend Phillipa to anyone, and you do not need a special occasion to learn to dance.

I’m so happy my husband and I did the lessons with Phillipa for our wedding. I was nervous and hesitant as a beginner, and I was completely not confident I could actually do a choreographed dance or remember it.
I’m so glad I trusted Phillipa’s advice that not only COULD I do it, but I would be confident; our dance was amazing, and I felt like a pro. We even did parts of our dance throughout the WHOLE night on the dance floor and even on our honeymoon!
Phillipa also worked with my dad and me for a short time so we didn’t feel boring during our father/​daughter dance. We remembered the simple but really impressive looking moves and had so much fun during our dance; that little touch added so much.

We had an awesome experience! We only decided to do dance lessons a few weeks before our wedding reception, and Phillipa helped me put together dances for both my husband and I and my father and I. Neither of the men had had dance lessons before and by the end we looked GREAT. Our dances were a huge hit!
Phillipa was super patient and we loved how she was able to come over to both my apartment and my parents’ house for lessons. Her schedule was really flexible and she doesn’t charge by the hour, so you really just take the time you need for each lesson to make sure you have learned what you can for the day (but not so much that you’re overwhelmed). I’m amazed at the affordability, especially when you take into account the convenience. To give you an idea, my parents are in the NW suburbs and I am in the city.
After each lesson we got a write-​up with each move and which part of the song it corresponded to. We even planned transitions between the dances and she worked around the whims of my dad, who had his own ideas. She even did a couple of whirls with my mom to make sure she felt comfortable during the open dance time.
All in all I think you should make this a MUST. It was one of the most stress-​free parts of this and my dad still talks about what an awesome time he had. 10 years ago we gave my parents salsa lessons for their anniversary, and after our wedding my parents finally dug up the gift certificate (somehow still valid) and started going. Phillipa will make a dancer out of anyone!

Phillipa did an AMAZING job putting together our first dance. It was surprisingly quick to learn and she did a great job customizing the dance to our first song choice.
All of our guests really loved the dance and were blown away. We still owe Phillipa a copy of the video :) She really cares about how your wedding dance goes and knows her stuff.

We only have the nicest things to say about Phillipa and her style of teaching. We had absolutely no experience with choreographed dancing prior to working with Phillipa and in a very short period of time we actually looked like we knew what we were doing!
If you want to do something really special on your day that will impress all your guests, I’d highly recommend working with Phillipa. Despite the fact that I procrastinated starting our dance lessons until the last possible second, Phillipa was extremely accommodating to our busy schedule and figured out a abbreviated plan to get us ready.
I’d recommend that you actually plan ahead when doing your dance lessons and without hesitation I recommend you use Phillipa to plan your wedding dance.

After reading many reviews on Unilocal we decided to go with JiveRoc to teach us our first dance for our wedding — and we are SO grateful that we did. Phillipa is an outstanding instructor and just overall great person. First of all, JiveRoc is the best deal you can get — she charges less than most everyone else and does not do it by the hour but rather per session. And the best part? She comes to you! She is prompt, friendly, talented and truly makes you feel like you have at least some talent (we had none). Neither my husband nor I had ever taken dance lessons and she was able to choreograph a dance for us that we loved… and that we ROCKED! We got married on 4/14/12…and we got a standing ovation! My husband’s parent’s jaws were dropped. It really made our day that much more special and we have Phillipa to thank for it. Thank you, Phillipa!

We didn’t want our wedding guests to sit through ANOTHER typical first dance. Sooo we surprised them with a secret dance.
Phillipa was fun & easy to work with! She responds quickly to emails & will come to your place (just be sure to push everything out of the way & vacuum under the carpet!) & choreograph a dance just for you & your partner. You pick the song of course but she is helpful if you are indecisive, too.
Her scheduled seemed pretty flexible & she was always on time & prepared. Plus, if you need more time one day to really get something down, she will hang around.
We are beginners but even more experienced dancers will be pleased with Phillipa’s teaching style as it’s comfortable & paced to suit you.
The moves you’ll learn are fun (lots of turns & rocks) and you can use them beyond just your dance routine later on in the evening and just about any other place you might happen to go dancing in the future.
Our guests were thrilled & surprised at our performance. It truly made the evening that much more special to share with my new husband & guests. It was overall a wonderful & enjoyable experience.

Phillipa is a fun and patient dance teacher, and she can effectively transform your wedding celebration into something magical. She was referred to us by a family member, and the money I spent on the dance lessons was arguably the best investment I made in my wedding. Philippa came to our apartment for lessons, and after the first one, my fiancé and I could not stop practicing, because we were so excited by our new found skills! We were so motivated to practice that by our rehearsal lesson, everything looked pretty good and we were feeling confident. That confidence resonated over to our actual performance during the night of our wedding. I was shocked that I was not nervous, because I knew I was well prepared. Sure enough, the dance went without a hitch, and my fiancé and I had a ball performing! Upon being asked what their favorite part of my wedding was, guests have consistently responded that they enjoyed our dance the most. It really set the entire tone for the night, and was the most memorable moment for our guests. You’re in great hands if you hire Phillipa, because you can expect a special product that can really amaze and inspire.

Our experience with Phillipa was excellent. She is more than just a good dancer, she’s an incredible instructor. We were novices, but we could understand her clear and clever explanations. As a gift to my son and his fiancée, we asked Phillipa to advise us on what type of dance they could learn in 1 session (as they are from Milwaukee, WI). Phillipa made some hugely helpful initial recommendations so that they could narrow down their options and focus on one song. With her guidance and coaching, they learned the song in 1 session (within 2 hours). Although they were comfortable with what she taught them (just to be sure they had been practicing and have the moves down pat prior to their big day) they scheduled another session with Phillipa! Her willingness to come to our home (in the burbs), make the session comfortable and easy to follow, and her ability to coach them through the session with success was inspiring. The end result, magnificant! I was so proud of them and thought of how special their dance was with just a little planning and their willingness to put in the work. Their first dance was a lot less akward for them as well as those watching. I think they surprised all of the guests too! I would highly recommend Phillipa for any dance instruction.

We used Phillipa for our first dance at our wedding as well as my father-​daughter dance, and I couldn’t have asked for a better or more patient teacher. My dad is pretty much tone deaf and completely uncoordinated, but by the end of our lessons he was able to do an entire choreographed routine on the beat! We loved that Phillipa created original dances for us and that she was able to come all the way out to my parents’ home in the suburbs to teach us. All in all, it was a really fun, relaxed and convenient way to learn our wedding dances.

My fiancé and I have absolutely NO dance skills so it was with some trepidation that I decided to try to learn a dance for our wedding rather than just do a 3 minute clutch and shuffle. Well, working with Phillipa was the best decision to help us avoid widescale public humiliation and not only that, actually impress our friends and family. What’s great about Phillipa is she custom designs a dance with moves to fit your song and skills so you’re not just learning a fox trot or waltz step. And she picks moves that will look really impressive and great for your photos. She’s super patient and flexible. She even comes to your place to teach you!

My husband and I initially hired Phillipa to teach us a first wedding dance because we were petrified of dancing in front of all our guests. In the end, not only did she teach us a great dance, but we had so much fun in her lessons that we now like to dance! We also had a fantastic and highly memorable time dong the dance at our wedding, instead of a dreaded, awkward dance. I really wanted to do something special on our wedding day, something people would not forget so I thought what better than to perform a choreographed dance for our first dance. I did a lot of research trying to find a dance instructor with the best deals and great reviews. Phillipa’s deals were the best I could find. You pay by the session (not the hour) and she will come to your house! We paid for 4 sessions and it was perfect! My now husband is not a dancer by any means but after the four sessions, he couldn’t wait to show everyone what he had learned. Everyone was so astonished by our dance! I would recommend her to anyone!

There were 2 main reasons why I initially chose to go with JiveRoc:
1. JiveRoc was the lowest cost I found around! For the type of one-​on-​one sessions they offer, it really is a great deal!
and 2. They choreograph a dance specifically to your wedding song!
While #1 is a great reason while trying to plan out a wedding, #2 is a fabulous extra bonus! When you don’t know much about dancing, it’s hard to fathom trying to put together a few moves here and there — learning an entire dance to your song from start to finish is awesome!
Now, don’t be scared, thinking you can learn an entire dance is frightening, but Phillipa is GREAT! she specializes in helping beginners, and really knew how to work with your strengths and weaknesses.
It is recommended that you take 3 – 4 classes — this seems so short for a beginner to learn a whole dance, but believe me, it is perfect timing! Phillipa does not charge by the hour, it is per session — so you can relax each session and learn at your own pace.
If you are looking to spice up your wedding dance, I would HIGHLY recommend giving JiveRoc a call — you won’t regret it! My fiancé and I have our wedding next Saturday =O and are raring to go with our dance! so very excited, and have Phillipa to thank for it!
