Matt’s Lawn Care & Landscaping

I guess James W Colias, so-​called ‘Turf Specialist’ thought I wasn’t going to respond to his deplorable service & fraudulent billing practices. I guess James thought that after I found out he is a shady home-​based company I would just yell at him over the phone, tweet about him & give up. Little does he know that he pissed off the wrong consumer, and she reached out to the BBB, FTC, state of IN consumer affairs, office of attorney general & a lawyer on retainer to submit a formal complaint against this so-​called ‘lawn care’ company. Consumers have the right to not be bullied, and hustled. Summary below:
On the week of 4÷13÷2015, I contacted Matt’s Lawn & Landscape (219−838−8900) to provide spring clean-​up & aeration to my residential home. The company sent out a person to look at my lawn & provide an estimate. I called back the following Monday to ask them to go ahead & send me a contract with the aforementioned items, but please confirm the cost of the spring clean-​up because the price wasn’t listed on the estimate. A person by the name James W Colias, informed me that they would be out again to look at my yard (again) to look & provide an estimate. 1 week later no one showed up & I reluctantly began cleaning my own yard. May 1^st a man drove up as I was cleaning my yard & introduced himself as James W Colias from Matt’s Lawn, and stated, «So you’ve decided to clean up the yard yourself huh?» I replied that I need to get my yard in shape ASAP-it’s beginning to get out of hand as it’s getting warmer & the grass is growing. He told me that they could do it as long as it wasn’t too much (which I thought was odd to say for a company specializing in lawn care). I said fine, I did most of the work this week. If they could complete it according to the estimate. At that point he told me that they don’t do anything with the bushes up front. Just blow out the leaves, cut & edge. I replied that the estimate says differently-​and the cut & edge is completely different from a «spring clean up». He dismissed my comment & quickly left. Later that week I called to see if they were coming out, he came out of the gate with a ton of excuses– they can’t mow when the ground is damp; my grass is growing faster than usual; with the condition that my yard is in I am putting them in a difficult position & I if I don’t want to use them-that’s fine, I can go someplace else. So I did. I fired them, completed the clean-​up myself. My husband did the mow. I hired Rainmakers to do the aeration. June 3^rd I get a bill from Matt’s Lawn for $ 55 for spring clean-​up (a service they DID NOT provide). I called June 4^th at 11:47am to speak to Matt-​NOT James. James picked up, refused to let me speak to Matt (the presumed owner), exasperated the situation, was intentionally condescending, dismissive, rude & repeatedly threatened to send me to the collections if I did not pay. I told him that I rescinded my inquiry to his services, did not sign-​off on anything, & would report him-​he said that was fine, go ahead. I hung up.
