I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Lindsey today to get my eyebrows shaped and waxed. She was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job trying to set right what some other salons had messed up. Highly recommend. I will definitely be going back to see Lindsey and will likely meet with a hairstylist as well.

Just got my haircut yesterday by Shannon. She did a PERFECT job with my super-​fine, super long hair. I chopped it all off and I’m not looking back! The price was outstanding and the service was amazing, so much so I had to book Shannon for an all-​over color this weekend! I’m super happy I found this place!

I found Ahead of Style because Shannon Grayson, the stylist I’ve been seeing since high school, relocated here. I have found that the salon staff here (including but not limited to Shannon) are incredibly friendly even to clients who are not their own.
Of course, I highly recommend Shannon to anyone! She is quick and efficient, but doesn’t make you feel rushed. For years I’ve been doing the «just take off enough to make it healthy again» thing because I loved my long hair, but last week I decided it was time for a change and wanted to chop it all off. Thank goodness for Shannon. I had all these ideas in my head about what I wanted it to look like, but I couldn’t articulate them very well, yet somehow she managed to make my hair look exactly as I had pictured it. She also never makes me feel guilty although I’m terrible at taking care of my hair and scheduling regular appointments. It can be months between my visits to her and she still remembers things about me and is incredibly friendly. I love this salon, and specifically Shannon, and I highly recommend them!

My regular stylist in the Pearl is no longer able to have appointments on Saturday so I thought I would try this out. I will not go back. I wasted $ 150.
I found them on the Goldwell salon finder, and was told that many of the girls used that. I told them I have an asymmetrical cut and wanted someone that was good a it.
1) they have switched to Keune instead of Goldwell. I asked from someone to lighten my blonde hair to blend with my silver so I could grow it out. It did not match.
2) The stylist used a razor all over my hair. The ends are an inch longer on one side, the layers are uneven and my hair is very thin now because she did not know how to cut, so she removed the pieces that were not doing what she wanted them to do. Butchered!
Do not make the same mistake I did. ask for references, maybe go see them cut hair and see if it is what you want.

Found this place through Unilocal and had to write a review — Donielle was great — finally somebody listened to me and I walked out of there with an awesome color and cut! I have had issues lately with other salons but not any longer — I will be back!!!

My hair stylist’s name is Donelle, and I have been going to her for my third haircut in a row now. I got my best haircut EVER last time I went to her — it was perfect: cute, short, sporty bob that was not too edgy and professional. Most importantly, it suited me to a T. She is professional, courteous, funny and efficient. She also took my suggestions into consideration and respected my feedback during the haircut. I highly recommend her and the salon!

I had a really good experience with this place recently. My stylist Stacy was very professional and she definitely knows what she is doing. I needed her to cover highlighted hair but not to make it too dark and she listened and help me pick the perfect color. I also had her blend and cut my long layers and loved the result. She is great at her profession!
From booking the appointment with Michelle to walking out the door with a great haircut and color by Stacy I couldn’t have had a nicer experience –highly recommend this place :-)

I have been a loyal client of Melinda’s since 1996, when a friend with fabulous hair introduced me to her. I have long, curly hair, and she has always given me the perfect cut to optimize my curl and minimize volume. It can be difficult to find a stylist who can effectively cut curly hair, and she has the magic touch.
Though I have lived overseas and now live in the city, I continue driving out to Hillsboro for the perfect cut. The staff is very friendly and down to earth, the environment is charming and I am always very pleased with the results! I recommend Melinda and her salon, Ahead of Style, if you are seeking exceptional hair and service. The very reasonable prices are just icing on the cake.

Great stylists, convenient location, reasonably priced!

This is it! I found it! It only took me 7 years, but I found it! The salon and the stylist of my dreams!
The salon staff are awesome here. They are welcoming and down to earth. I feel at home every time I walk into their shop. My stylist, Denelle, knows me by name now and remembers my family and things we talk about. She’s feels like an old friend. She listens when I tell her what I want, and she cuts hair like Bob Villa fixes homes. She’s a pro! I can rest assured that I will walk out LOVING my new hair cut.
I am so turned off by so many over priced salons where stylist never remember you and rarely give you the cut you wanted. Here, at Ahead of Style, you get what you ask for and at a very reasonable price.
I will salon hop no more! Ahead of Style is where it’s at!

Erika at Ahead of Style has been doing my hair for a few years now and she does a great job! I never worry about what’s going to happen when I go in there. It is a trek out there from SE Portland but I am lucky it happens to be across the street from my Wednesday office so I can sneak across and get pampered for a couple hours and then return to work!
The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting and I recommend it to all!

I have been a huge fan of Melinda, a stylist and new owner of Ahead of Style for a very long time! In fact, I followed her to this location and, as one of the other reviewers said, thought OMG this salon is way out in the country! However, rather than dislike the journey I have found it as part of the wonderful destination. Located in a peace-​filled re-​done home, it is wonderful to sit down and relax away from the hustle and bustle of an in-​town salon. All of the stylists are personable and caring and offer services you would find at a much more expensive and «frantic» shop. If you are having a special day in your life you could certainly be pampered from head-​to-​toe at Ahead of Style. I would recommend them to anyone!

When it comes to getting a decent haircut I look for attentive hair designers. Someone who will listen to my ideas, and feel comfortable enough to pitch their own. Some one who tells me what they are going to do before they do it. And someone who can put me at ease – letting me know that I won’t walk out of the salon looking like a freak.
In my entire life I can only think of one bad haircut, and I was in New York and the hair stylist did not listen to me. I walked out of the salon looking like a girl from the MOD Squad. I hated it – it was fixable but frustrating to think that I was paying someone to NOT listen to me and to mess up my hair.
At Ahead of Style, that’s not the case. They listen to you and work with your ideas when it comes to your hair. Susan was my hair stylist for about 4 – 5 years and I loved her. She was sassy, but kept things simple. The first time I had her, I didn’t even say words – just motioned my hands around my head and made some noises that suggested a haircut. She nodded and said, «I think I got it,» The next thing i know my hair is just the way i want it. Different, but not crazy.
Unfortunately, she isn’t there anymore but I still enjoy going back to Ahead of Style for a good haircut. Which includes a conversation about my hair.

For the last month or so my hair has been very angry. It would scream and cry every day and it never wanted to leave the house. It wanted a cut and it’s roots were showing so much that it felt naked. I did feel bad for my hair but I couldn’t help it on my own. Enter: Stacy!
Stacy at Ahead of Style in Hillsboro is definitely worth the trek from the city. She’s adorable and fun and so willing to stay past nine at night to make sure my hair looks perfect. She’s very knowledgeable about coloring and bleaching and even made my hair look pretty after I’d put four different box colors on it in a two week span. That’s talent!
Ahead of Style did loose a star in my book for being way out in Hillsboro and for being kinda spendy, but that is coming from a girl who used to go to great clips and die her own hair at home.
Today my hair is so happy! It’s dancing around on my head. It’s got a fresh new cut that’s oh so flattering and so many pretty colors. My hair loves Stacy. It would marry her if she didn’t already have a husband.
